BTW> People complain when a "foreign industry" takes over a "domestic industry" because people have been led to believe that foreign = bad and domestic = good. You see it quite often.

no foreign means less control; if a company stays dutch I'm in a much stronger legal position if they suddenly steal my money.

If jagex would now, after buying a 12 month membership, not give me membership. Or ban me. I can't get my money back - as I dont' live in the US and as non US citizin I can't use their legal system optimal. Whereas the dutch law say that a company may never remove services from a customer without a written warning before (which the consumer may dispute & the consumer then always gets a 1 month grace/till it is correctly handled).

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

  • Insight Ventures Partners is an offensive term and it should be censored.

  • I'm sure this will do something about all of the complaints about Insight Venture Partners on the forums, and not make it worse in some way.

companies are not people and deserve every bit of criticism they get. Blocking criticism just proves how much more you need it and how much less you should be trusted.

they probably think they are being successful as they are actually getting more profit from runescape.

Their Wikipedia page does not say much.

Check it out, huge amount of effort has gone into this massive mod!

This really isn't that much of a big deal.

There are 300-600 active users every time I go on there. I'm not sure if there were more previously, but that still seems rather impressive. I would guesstimate the community at ~100k (taking everyone who has read/posted once in the last month, for example). Does that sound right?

Why censure whining in a video game?

Oh wait, I know, because the suits can't handle bad performance reviews. Shocker...

Personally, I applaud Jagex for this move. The whining ruins other people's experience with the game, and it makes the investors look bad. If the investors feel that being involved with Jagex hurts their image, they will withdraw. When Jagex has no investors, then what? Would you rather take the risk?

Relax. Chill. Just play the game and have fun. If you don't like it, then leave and play something else.

Jagex is based in the U.K. Just saying.

@ Above: I have half a mind to quote the guy who explained why he thinks the "go play another game" argument is invalid. Oh, and you used false dilemma logical fallacy. Just like someone else did earlier and some guy responded to that. Wonder if this thread will eventually just start moving in circles.

Also, whining on the RSOF doesn't really ruin your in-game experience. You only see people bashing Insight Venture Partners if you're on the RSOF, aka not in game, and mostly just in the rants forum at that. Plus, censoring the name doesn't stop people from just complaining about investors. I fail to see how there is any significant distinction between running into a player on the RSOF complaining about the investors ruining the company and complaining about Insight Venture Partners ruining the company.

Yeah if you treat services as a means to an end then you're a douchbag and probably that guy who throws a fit in the line as everyone stares at them dumbfounded. There is a reason people say pick you're battles wisely because some aren't worth fighting.

Maybe not to you, but for me it does. I like reading feedback on updates, but the community is overcritical and they whine about the smallest minute details of the update. I also see repeated IPV threads and posts constantly in the future updates and recent updates forums. If you want to look like a smartass like everone else by using debate lingo why are you using absolutes? Don't you know you shouldn't say things like only, never, always, etc.

Well played on the absolutes. I'm actually against using absolutes, but obviously I mess up sometimes :P

Also, something to keep in mind when reading RSOF on updates. When players are happy about the update, generally they play RS and the update instead of talking about it. People are generally less vocal about what they're happy about then what they're mad about.

Oh, and the reason I used the debate lingo was because someone else earlier in this thread brought up the "would you rather see investors quit and RS fail" or something essentially that and someone else pointed out how it was a false dilemma. It was more that I got a sense of déja-vue when I saw his post and that made me think of the reply. I don't normally go around spouting the formal names for logical fallacies :P

Honestly you are right about the happiness thing because thats how I am and I very rarely and I mean RARELY put out anything on the forums about a good update. I mean its not all bad content and some of it could have used more tweaking, but sometimes you just can't ever hit that mark and not everything looks like a masterpiece especially with so many eyes on it.

Even though it might be a logical fallacy in theory that could be a very likely way of runescape going downhill. There are many things we don't know about jagex and what their intentions are, but IVP certainly isn't the grand evil entity everyone is making it out to be. I will admit that it has warped the spirit of the game a bit, but like I said before it was most likely a necessary event much like someone getting a job to support their growing needs.

@stonewall: They aren't defending "censorship." What they are defending is the separation of the corporates business and the runescape communities forceful intrusion into an area of jagex business practices that holds no place for the consumer.

That actually makes more sense. I disagree, since it most obviously does impact the decisions those higher up make as to what direction the game takes, but it makes more sense than defending censorship.

Alright I suppose theres use, but does anyone important - save the HLF use it. I scroll on and its a bunch of trolls, and obviously very young posters and internet memes being thrown around on there all the time. It doesn't really seem productive. I dont support additional censorship especially blocking out the company owners (over 50% of the stock share iirc) seems very shady but at the same time I dont blame them for doing it.

Ah you need to have high stats to be important? What a bunch of elitism you show... again.

Everyone is important in an MMO.

First they came to fishing

I slightly agree on the elitism feelings you have, but he has a point. The HLF people do hold a special place, maybe not above anyone else, because they represent the end game, longstanding, well knowledged players of the game. Most importantly is that these players also have a good picture on how the game should be player out and generally critique it justly due to their longevity and experience with the game.

Only to a point. Everyone is important, but some people are WAY more important. I don't think anyone would argue when I say that the level 45 has far less of any noticeable impact on any aspect of the game than a level 138 who plays at least the same amount of time.

Just the difference in the amount of raw materials a higher level consumes has a far larger impact. I mean when I was level 100 I used what, monks and super sets to train slayer, costing maybe 100k every few weeks? Now I use p pots/overloads/steel titan/spec restores etc where a single task might cost 100k.

That doesn't make you more important. It makes you more wealthy and a greater influence: but you still play the game the same way and should the same say into it as a lower level. But we are straying off topic now...

But it does speak to your experience and the unique perspective you can provide on the game having reached "the top". The smaller sample, too, makes sifting through important feedback easier and as a result, that feedback is more valuable. But that doesn't necessarily make that player more important. Especially given the next update they can be as bad as the collective.

It depends on the feedback that you want from them, though. If they want player feedback on endgame content, that's basically the only group they should ask, but if they want feedback about how to make the game more friendly for newer/lower leveled players, they're the last group that should be spoken to, if they are at all. It'd be like asking PKers for feedback on content designed for skillers, or vice versa.
