Behind the Scenes 18: New Challenges, New Security

A few things:

  • I don't think Jagex knows the best methods of any skill, but certainly they can get decent rewards
  • Probably challenges required for (trimmed) completion cape.
  • I like the idea of the notice board, it seems to combine a lot of information
  • Mod mentioned that they would have teleports to move to the minigames, which is quite cool
  • Having latest updates on the notice board is very good, more ways to get unmindful players to see about new updates.

I'm surprised nobodies mentioned that one of the rewards for the challenge in the video is a free spin on SoF.

Also, this is a minor gripe but it irritates me that all the new interfaces Jagex are rolling out take up the whole playing screen.

Looks interesting, though I wouldn't expect the xp to be the actual best (case in point, the LRC can potentially offer substantially more xp than iron).. That said, it almost sounded like I could just keep picking say teh mine mithril challenge and keep getting xp as if I were drop mining iron, which would be kind of neat.

I would like to see botany bay be the next update, though I am already kind of miffed that that have the gall to hold the macroing Q&A before they go all out with their anti bot thing. Seems ass backwards if you ask me.

And @insane, the JAG was released last week. That was just some extra encouragement for people to actually use it. (unless I am missing something...)

Why would that mean Botany Bay is this week? There are three options, depending on how updates are combined...

Option 1: Challenge system this week, Al kharid and Botany bay next week

Option 2: Botany Bay this week, Al kharid and challenge system next week

Option 3: Challenge system and botany bay this week, al kharid next week.

Option 3: Challenge system and botany bay this week, al kharid next week.

I'd say it's likely to be option 3 purely on the basis that the BTS video for Botany Bay was released last week and the challenge system's BTS video was this week. I would have thought if it was any other way the BTS video's would be ordered differently.

He forgot option 4

al kharid this week, botany and challenge next week.

That aside it's a safe bet Al-Kharid will not be this week seeing as the next bts video is about the quests and since that will be out friday it'd be pretty dumb to put out the quests before then.

So I'd say option 3 is most likely, though option 1 is a possibility.

Al kharid won't come this week due to the bts, that's why said option is not there. Not to mention there would be even more combinations if you would consider that a possibility.

I found the most interesting thing in that video was Mod Beno's interview, 4:10 onwards, where he says they've actually managed to arrest some hackers

The Noticeboard update looks pretty nice, but seriously.. +700 Challenges?

It's not a race, you know.

It is if the trimmed comp cape requires all of them.

I would imagine that there are 700 of the challenges to make an actual variety to the challenge system. That way you're chances of getting a repeat on the ten daily challenges in a week would be fairly uncommon. 10 challenges a day for 7 days is 70 challenges so you got a 1/10 chance to get the same challenge for that week.

Also I could imagine jagex making it to where the challenge system might offer a trim requirement by saying "complete over half the challenges in a 24 hour period." Probably fairly easy if you plan it right. For EST people they could sleep, wake up at 8pm, do some challanges, sleep a bit more, get up and do the rest before hitting 8pm again.

I very much doubt that. From the bts, it sounds like Tasks still exist seperately, and the goal of challenges is to make your daily training more diverse. It wouldn't make any sense to ask for them to be fully completed - that's what tasks are for.

The challenge system seems great. But I really hope that next week's update is the botany bay one and not the challenge system. We really need to get rid of those bots now.

As there are only two weeks left in September it seems to me like they'd combine both of those into one update, and the Al Kharid/new quests update into the other.

I do agree with you that the new bot nuke needs to be done sooner rather than later, but if it takes a bit longer to get it right I'm wiling to wait. Measure twice, cut once. ;)

I agree. But I am getting impatient now :P Sorry lol :)

Also it kinda sounded like challenges never really get completed as such, it sounds to me very much like you beat them and get a reward and they will go away but they don't stay ticked off as it were and that on some timer (maybe a week or a month) they will come back and can be done again.

I could see the hardest out of the challenges being stuff like kill nex, do the kiln, etc, which isn't hard to do if you only have to do it once. If it was something like "Kill nex X times without banking", then OK maybe that would be more a problem but I can't see jag coming up with that.
