Low Levelled
I think you both mean well, and I understand both sides of the argument. Currently, I'm trying to get chaotics. I've gotten 74-76 dg since my OP, and I'm also going to try the qbd soon. I also have done a couple slayer tasks with t7 weapons when dungeoneering gets boring. chenw
I suggest getting the Claw(s) or the Maul. The off hand claw can wait until they nerf EE. The cost of the Dragon claws needed to make them is almost negligible, and you actually save money if you use just cash to repair your chaotics, since claws are made at 100% durability, rather than 20% for CLS/CR. You get to use Chaotic Claw a lot earlier than you would if you went for Rapier or Long, since the mainhand only costs 100k tokens. Dual Claws also comes out slightly on top of Maul in DPS, but Maul has 33% less upkeep cost than Dual Claws (which you may or may not care about). 6,924th to 30 hunting, 13,394th to 30 summoning, 52,993rd to 30 DivinationKiln Record (Post-EoC): W 25 - L 0, 14 Uncut Onyx, 8 Jad hits received (Best record: Two in the same kiln)Obby set renewed post update #2: 0QBD drops: 21 crossbow parts, 3 Visages, 1 Kites, 2 KitsMax Port Score [2205] Achieved: 27th April 2013 (World 2nd) Farmyard Rampage ranking: 12th, 50,000 Kills. Cerri
I apologize if I inadvertently stirred up something I hadn't intended to. It was never my intention, and I'm pretty sure at no point did I suggest the OP NOT go for the things that you have suggested. However, the OP never actually made it clear if he was looking for the most efficient, or to save time. The one fact that was apparent was cost. The OP did state how much he was looking to spend on gear. What initially set me off was the comment "Get chaotics or don't slay," which was amended to "get t80 weapons or don't slay." I felt that this was a pretty heavy handed statement, and I still do. Why should a skill or an activity be avoided, or postponed until certain conditions are in place? As a side note, yes I do personally find facing the QBD to not be enjoyable. To date, I've done around 15-20 attempts, and not once have I survived long enough to brandish my crossbow. I don't have the cash to continue making attempts so rather than continuing to force myself through an activity in a game that I pay money for that I don't enjoy, I accepted that the QBD might not be for me, and that I would eventually need to find an alternative weapon. I don't suggest this as a long-term solution to anyone, but at the same time, if I want to slay, I'm not going to grind my progress to a halt just because I am missing this item. I apologize to the OP, this isn't necessarily on topic to what he was asking, and I'm sorry that it's devolved into an argument over what is more "fun." 1 ... one can dream, right? ... See my blog! Quyneax
Royal crossbow is the cheapest t80 weapon and it's pretty much a maul (damage wise, though abilities are slightly worse/different). Also maul is fine on waterfiends, but mhclaw and eee is a bit better. @Cerri: You are doing something very, very wrong if you can't survive to brandish after 15-20 attempts. People who've never been mhing can kill her first try using relatively cheap equipment (maul and t70 armour or void). I think it'd be going a bit far to say that anyone is that bad at QBD, once they 'get' the trick (the trick is to ignore the specials), and that it's more likely that everyone can do QBD if they can use t70 armour and t80 weapons. Fallstar
Even if you hate QBD, it's still worth spending 5 minutes doing something you hate in exchange for an item that will make the next many hours of slayer more enjoyable. (higher hits, faster kills, quicker tasks so more variation = more enjoyable) I'd personally recommend you dungeoneer and get a set of tier 80 weapons before you start slaying. Assuming you plan on raising dg at some point anyway, you might as well do some dg first then slay. Dg is a long (ish) skill and it might be nice to break it up a bit by dg'ing for your chaotics first, then slaying, then going back to it. In terms of gear, barrows provides more than enough defence for every task. If you have 70m, getting GWD gear is a waste of your resources. One major piece of advice: the cannon will be getting a significant buff within the next few weeks which will make slaying with a cannon much more useful again, so I'd grab 50k or so cannonballs now whilst they're dirt cheap if I were you. Also, the chaotic staff is the most important chaotic to get, due to barraging many tasks being much faster, in excess of 200k slay/hr in several cases. Quyneax
Source of cannon buff? The main problem with the cannon isn't dps, it's the huge annoyance of tagging on low lp tasks (champ scrolls too :(). PolarBearBlue
This topic got WAY out of hand... The general idea is that on start, using barrows and t70 gear is fine, but when you can, you should increase to better resources. If you really can't be bothered to spend too much money, go to QBD, or what have you then Range: Karil's, barrows gloves, dragonrider boots, ava device, 6th age circuit, amulet of ranging and a crystal bow for arrow weak monster and a black salamander for bolt weak.Magic: Ahrim's or Akrisae, ganodermic gloves and boots, mage cape, 6th age circuit, arcane steam and staff or light. Try barraging/bursting slayer monsters magic weak.Melee: Verac's (or whatever barrows melee you prefer. Verac's provide prayer bonus), barrows gloves, fury (since you already have it iirc) dragonrider boots, fire cape, 6th age circuit and saradomin sword for crush, a godsword for slash, and zammy spear for stab. Anything better than that improves your slaying. Example already listed by a bunch of people here. To answer some other questions. Yes, a slayer helm is worth using. You should make an effort for void and the royal crossbow, and when you get the levels/tokens you should get a maul, vine whip/chaotic claw + EE, and still use zammy spear for stab or go for rapiers. Quyneax
You really shouldn't bother with gano gloves/boots just because you're maging. They are not magic attacking boots, they are melee defending boots. In fact only top, legs, shield and crit/damage boost equipment are attacking pieces, all the rest is purely defensive. That includes all boots, helmets & gloves but Nex and some capes/amulets/rings (usually all-class or classless pieces). I don't think there is any task you will need much defence on if you have soul split. Until then, bunyip can cover a lot (use scrolls + raw fish rather than cooked fish, as you lose no adrenaline). Typically, boots & gloves aren't really worth switching, too much effort. Sinkhan
all the rest is purely defensive. That includes... helmets To be pedantic: Void, Slayer Helm (and pieces), and those SoF helmets Is the extra 0.7% crit on ASN worth taking over Fury prayer bonus? Are mage weak tasks even worth maging against if you have T80 melee and ranged weps? Something to fill my sig with until I find a replacement. Also check out my blug
chenw
The issue with prayer bonus is that on much of the tasks (if not all), the length of your stay is not limited by your prayer potions you are carrying, but rather slayer monster count (or, if you bank dragons, your loot), which basically makes fury's prayer bonus kind of moot. Not to mention that Prayer potions costs pennies these days (especially renewal). So it's not a bad idea to keep your dps as high as possible. 2. I think the opposite is more true (IE maging everything instead), people have been advocating barraging everything that is remotely close together, regardless of weakness. 6,924th to 30 hunting, 13,394th to 30 summoning, 52,993rd to 30 DivinationKiln Record (Post-EoC): W 25 - L 0, 14 Uncut Onyx, 8 Jad hits received (Best record: Two in the same kiln)Obby set renewed post update #2: 0QBD drops: 21 crossbow parts, 3 Visages, 1 Kites, 2 KitsMax Port Score [2205] Achieved: 27th April 2013 (World 2nd) Farmyard Rampage ranking: 12th, 50,000 Kills.
