May 11, 201412 yr If the high level content is what you find fun, then yeah, 'you have to level to play.' But if you're low level in everything and aren't enjoying what you're doing, then I'm not too sure why you're still playing.

But if you're low level in everything and aren't enjoying what you're doing, then I'm not too sure why you're still playing. But isn't leveling up to be able to do the stuff at high level something that applies to ALL games with a level-up system? In GTA: SA there is one mission you can't do with low level in swimming. And in the Pokémon games most Pokémon need to be at a certain level to evolve or learn specific moves. I don't see how this is something that's limited to just RuneScape, because it's not, far from it.
May 12, 201412 yr How is slayer not profitable? Ganodermic beasts, airut, abyssal demons, automatons, etc. have a solid drop table with a fairly steady income/task.I haven't unlocked them, but celestial dragons should be decent too.Sirenic scales were a nice bonus for high level slayer tasks, so are triskelion key parts. You can now do KK for kalphite tasks, QBD for black dragon task, Armadyl GWD for aviansie tasks, ...Demon drop tables have been improved, especially a ton of rune drops and gems (use the gem bag)Dragon hides and bones are at peak values, and can easily be banked with magic notepaper/sign of porters. There's pets now that can pick up coins without you wasting ticks / and even the charming imp so you dont have to bother picking up charms manually. With the higher tier weaponry, the kills per hour rates are at an all time high. The ranged dungeon with ascension creatures is OK income just from the keystones alone. I could agree on npc's like gargoyles, nechs and strykewyrms having a lower-then-expected drop table, but their level range is for the most part a range you can shoot fast pretty quickly. With any new content you can expect to have value of items drop over time, especially if higher tiers are released. Alch values are price floor. That kept in mind, I think slayer income is pretty much where it should be at.
May 12, 201412 yr I'll have to point out that the thread was made nearly 1 year ago, when many of those tasks didn't exist yet/were not profitable yet.
June 7, 201412 yr Sorry for bump but what's the general take on this now? Looking at draggles loot tab and the (marvelous) concept of task-only drops, it seems quite profitable (90+, and if you're doing bosses too) Sway all day, Butterfly flaps all the way! ✿ ♥‿♥)
June 9, 201412 yr Generally slayer is extremely profitable now. I dont do any bosses for slayer, and my tab is still worth a decent amount.

Thanks. :) Slayer does kind of suck for profit until you get to the very high level tasks which are typically very good.Abyssal Demons for instance may not be the best GP/HR in the game but if you consider the GP per kill they're far better than most "campable" monsters with average drops seeming to be 30k+ if I had to guess. Many other "newer" Slayer monsters follow this trend, with high-value common drops and rare drops that don't factor much into GP/HR but give a nice bonus and an "ooh!" when received.I'd like to add that Magic Notepapers have "changed the game" a little bit; many of the non-stackable drops that didn't seem worth picking up and making a trip to bank can be easily noted now, meaning one can use an avatar or combat familiar instead of a Beast of Burden. As well as the above, there are many combat boons released in more recent times that, if properly utilized, allow one to slay far faster than previously if one just knows what they're doing.I believe I killed a task of 180 Dark Beasts in just under half an hour, and 240 Abyssal Demons in 40 minutes just recently. Personally, I'm going for 120 Slayer (I want to have the icon of "really good at killing shit") so I may be a bit biased, but I can generally skip every task that isn't either very quick, very good XP, or very decent profit.

The speed that tasks go at now are simply amazing - I've had similar experience with abyssal demon/dark beast tasks (I have the masks that make sure I get at least one assignment of each per day I train slayer, so I do them a lot), whereas I remember slaying before even chaotics were out having to spend nearly 2 hours to get 240ish kills on those tasks. Admittedly, the weapons aren't the only changes I've had (gained curses, better combat familiars), but it's still changed. Also, the fact that the Ascension creatures exist and are tasks? Those are great money makers even outside of Slayer, so them being part of slayer is just great. (There's also the possibility of using bosses for some assignments, but I haven't really had a chance to try that out much) I guess the main thing I have to add to the conversation is this: Slayer is definitely improving, if nothing else. If you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature.
August 5, 201411 yr Slayer's still worth it, if you do the boss versions of them IMO. May as well get it done. :D
August 19, 201411 yr Hmm. Slayer is my way of making money..and 99 slayer have given me a nice fortune tbh. It has made me able to buy all three sets of drygores, both main-hand and off-hand, and on top of it still have a nice cash flow in bank. But I notice all the time, no matter what task I am on, that most of my fellow slayers don't pick up their loots. The loot can vary from 3k cash drop, dragon bones (!) to rune items. I pick up everything; I high alch or I sell the items at the end of my tasks, I also pick up other players loot and I make a nice profit everytime. It can vary from 1 mill to several mills (depending on rare drops) per task! I have to admit I do find it humerous that the same players who do not pick up their loots, actually complains they don't get a profit from slaying  PS: just finished a celestial dragon task. Profit (no rare drops today): 2'985303 (this include me picking up another players hides, steel plates and talismans...) - "I am willing to die...I mean try" - Jewelfire (Want to go bossing?) -"we tried, we cried and we died!" - Limparse (What happens to old farts and tarts on monster-hunts) - "...and we found out that there are as many ways to get to warriors guild ...as there are elders trying to get there" - Lysi *snods agely* sorry... *nods sagely* - Brammy -"Equality is being treated the SAME as everyone else; not having special treatment and unique things added in to everything." - Sy_Accursed
August 19, 201411 yr I'll have to point out that the thread was made nearly 1 year ago, when many of those tasks didn't exist yet/were not profitable yet. I have to protest a bit on this though. I have maxed slayer on my nooblett (Rejna) but also maxed it on Sunli (Old School char) - loong before any new stuff and monsters. It still got me a nice profit back then; mostly thanks to BOB's! Not complaining about the new monsters/slayer monsters - the drops and the tasks are much much more exciting these days, but it wasn't all that bad in them olden days either :) - "I am willing to die...I mean try" - Jewelfire (Want to go bossing?) -"we tried, we cried and we died!" - Limparse (What happens to old farts and tarts on monster-hunts) - "...and we found out that there are as many ways to get to warriors guild ...as there are elders trying to get there" - Lysi *snods agely* sorry... *nods sagely* - Brammy -"Equality is being treated the SAME as everyone else; not having special treatment and unique things added in to everything." - Sy_Accursed
August 19, 201411 yr I'm 99 slay so don't really slay for the profit but mainly because it's a fun skill and it gives xp in many skills at once (melee, ranged, hp, prayer, magic, summon with dg imp etc)It's practically impossible to lose money over slayer except when you don't gather loot (as Sunli pointed out) or go OVL's and insane degradable gear on for example hellhounds. But I guess those people just want the fast XP and don't mind a mil more or less gp-wise.Now I just changed my way of playing, I try to do only one task a day until I get something cool like dagannoths or black dragons, so I can kill the boss version of it.Killed over 15 QBD's this week and still got 46 kills of black dragons left. This makes slayer for me a challenge again and on top of it it's prestige (well a bit if your clan is filled with chickens who don't dare to even look at a boss :P )AND you get nice profit. Ok you have to invest a bit in solid gear, decent food and flasks filled with potions. But I like slayer again, I hope the new reaper thingie will even trigger my love towards slayer some more.I agree the big money isn't in the regular tasks, but overall I think slayer is still profit. Decent profit, even... 2016 goals: all skills +30mil xp - Completed this goal 11th December 2016 2017 goals: get at least 3 more master capes (start xp: invention done@21st Jan, mining done@2nd April & ranged 76/104mil done@June 20th) & all skills +40mil xp (done 24th August)
November 21, 201411 yr Slayer not worth it anymore? It is to me. I'd rather get stronger by getting paid to do manual labor than to pay someone in order to work out. Sorry if that doesn't make sense.
December 5, 201411 yr Echoing some of the previous sentiments, I would agree that slayer has transitioned from a luck based income method, to a more steady stream of income. Because Jagex has, for some reason, put almost all the focus of large scale money making on bossing, the gear released through bosses has devalued slayer drops past the point of return. However, normal drops from many of the higher levelled slayer monsters can add up very quickly. This, in conjunction with the incredibly low amount of resources required for players to use combat, makes slaying at a medium to high level quite profitable. Sure you might not be looking for that 3m whip drop that was once coveted, but if you keep tabs on what you bring in via Slayer you will realise you can gain more than you first believed.
December 6, 201411 yr Slayer is more profitable these days than it ever was because tasks are so much faster....... Though its about picking up alot more drops as opposed to one drop worth 10mil you need to pick up 10 drops worth a mil.... etc etc
December 6, 201411 yr Slayer is always worth it, least if you enjoy the skill it's worth it! :shades: More old-school than you know...
