i was reading about this if you like that stuff check out stephen hawking's books

You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "(bleep) you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "(bleep) you."

maybe we're not meant to know :)

and maybe it doesnt matter :D

I knew most of that already, so I was feeling pretty full of myself, laughing at the bearded guy, etc, but then he started talking about how the act of observation changes the pattern on the screen...

Pretty freaky. If a tree falls in the forest, and there's no one there to hear, did it ever make a sound?

Schroedinger's cat is well cited example of quantum mechanics.

A cat is placed in a sealed box. Attached to the box is an apparatus containing a radioactive nucleus and a canister of poison gas. This apparatus is separated from the cat in such a way that the cat can in no way interfere with it. The experiment is set up so that there is exactly a 50% chance of the nucleus decaying in one hour. If the nucleus decays, it will emit a particle that triggers the apparatus, which opens the canister and kills the cat. If the nucleus does not decay, then the cat remains alive. According to quantum mechanics, the unobserved nucleus is described as a superposition (meaning it exists partly as each simultaneously) of "decayed nucleus" and "undecayed nucleus". However, when the box is opened the experimenter sees only a "decayed nucleus/dead cat" or an "undecayed nucleus/living cat."

Basically, until the box is opened, the cat exists as both living and dead. Similarly, the particles of light can go through both slits until they're observed.

Grinning wide

And comforting me with it's three warm and wild eyes

That is pretty cool.

Wow.

That was incredible. Now I want to try that; however, I don't have the devices to do so. >.<

I never knew this stuff, but it all makes logical senes.

Its not that confusing... again, like i said before, we just have to accept that things happen untill we can prove it.

if a tree falls in the forest and nonones there to here it does it ever make a sound?

hahahaahahahah i laugh at that

it doesn't make a sound!

because what is sound but waves coming to our heres to make noises and such. if we arn't in that forest to difine it as sond then it wont make a sound, we wont be there to hear that and identify that something happend. therefor if we arn't there it wont make a sound because we can't define it as 'sound'

this is gonna start a flame

It's not meant to have a literal answer. The question is really 'Do things happen if we don't observe them?'.
