If you look at the top of the page, there is a speed bar with a max of 10 squares of speed. Now, if you look through the guide you'll find the fastest melee weapons, the whip and the daggers and all, have a speed 6. You'll also notice that the slowest weapons, like 2H, halberds, and the greataxe, all have a speed of 6. I was surprised to see that the guthan spear, and all spears, are only one notch slower than daggers. But the current speed bars made me question whether or not there will ever be melee weapons slower than 3 or faster than 6?

 

 

 

In the range sections you can see other interesting facts. Shortbows are just as fast as daggers. Knives and darts are actually faster than them at a rank 7 speed, and they're the same speed (rather than darts being faster?). The crystal bow is only 1 notch slower than them and the seercull is actually the same speed as the crystal bow, with a lower speed than the magic shortbow, whose stats is shares. The ogre bow, though, has the lowest speed at rank 2. So the question comes again as to whether or not new weapons will have speeds even slower or even faster than a rank 2 or 7?

 

 

 

These weapon speeds are an interesting piece of information and gives these questions. I personally can't believe that the 8-10 speeds are wasted just to show how fast a cannon can possibly shoot. I'm also curious to see whether or not a weapon will ever reach a speed 1 (again assuming that it's not only there to show the cannon). One more question is: are these speeds accurate, and are there only 10 speeds, or are these slight estimates? The two weapons that bother me the most are darts and knives. We have always thought of darts as faster, but are the knives actually just as fast, or are they just squeezed into one speed category when the speeds are actually slightly off?

Maybe Jagex will implement lightsabres with a speed of 9?

For the shortbows, are they using the accurate or the rapid setting?

I think they havnt got a great ranking system yet, because they have scimmys, short shorts and daggers in the same speed level of 6

Is the speed for barehanded combat the same as a dagger? If so, the weapon would have to have some blatant reason for being faster than your fists. Range weapons are easily explained by the lightness of the rounds used and the "effortless" (in comparison to swinging a great axe) amount of force required but a melee weapon that is faster than boxing would be rather hard to explain... short of something "magic" which is all together quite likely. I always thought claws should be faster than fists (try boxing with a roll of quarters; it allows faster delivery and recovery) but perhaps they will release a weapon "blessed" by some speed demon or something, hehe.

It seems strange that a dagger is the same speed a a scimtar... I wonder if that's not a little off too...

Things may seem slower how they animate darts fly fatser than knifes but are the same speed, and G axe looks faster than it is when you use the side swiping one.

I'm quite sure there is a melle weapon past 6. The sword you get from fremmy guards has a huge attack speed. I'd bet that it would be at least 7, much faster then whip i rekon just from changeing back and forth.

Oh, a fremennik sword? I never used one very long... maybe it is faster? (Koshi the Deathless sure used it faster though :shock: )

I would agree that the speed ratings for things like bows and darts and knives are for them on accurate. Rapid, darts and knives would be like 8 or 9 if not 10. Just look at it. On rapid you hit again before the last splash disappears. And perhaps they are also comparing the weapons to the attack speeds of other creatures in the game? Koshei the Deathless has speed of up to 10. Some monster you can find somewhere has speed of 1.

Koshi hits 2 times per second, if not more (I remember that during the whole fight i had 3 or 4 spalshes on my character at any given time of his last form). Now if thats a 8-9 i couldn't imagine what 10 is. So i think it is safe to say he has a speed of 10.
