July 5, 200620 yr I play trumpet, and have for the past 4 years. I am not currently learning french horn, wich is preaty much the hardest insturment to learn. The fingerings are almost the same as the trumpet, but the way you must move your mouth makes it much harder. BTW, anyone know how to drain spit from a french horn, cant find a way. It's close, but I wouldn't quite call it practically the same thing. they have their own little nuances and special features or aspects that you need to mind to. You shouldnt quite play trumpet the same exact way you play cornet or flugelhorn.

July 10, 200620 yr I play cornet (4 years, now stopped), but if you play trumpet youshould know it's practically the same thing. It's close, but I wouldn't quite call it practically the same thing. they have their own little nuances and special features or aspects that you need to mind to. You shouldnt quite play trumpet the same exact way you play cornet or flugelhorn. Trumpets and cornets have the same fingerings, and you hold it the same way. Trumpets are just heavier and have differnt spit valves and tuning valves which don't really make the playing different. And with Trumpets it's a tiny bit harder to play higher because of the extra length.
July 10, 200620 yr I finaly found out how to take the spit out of the french horn.... unfortuantly its not pleasent having spit go on the carpet in your floor just cause you pull out a slide and turn it upside down....
