here's the amazingly simple solution to runescape's scamming situation.

if an abuse report is sent into jagex, and if they review it and determine that a scam did take place, then the scammer would get muted for one month, have his entire bank delivered to the victum (the account would be locked until a jagex mod finds time to deliver it), and automatically recieve 2 black marks.

it doesn't matter if it was a 1k or 100mil scam.

if you think this is too harse, then it's because you are a scammer.

why jagex hasn't started something like this already is beyond me. releasing this announcement would eliminate ALL scamming immediately.

mods, pass this by in your uber mod forums :P

and to stop stupid posts, no i was not scammed, yes this would work, and post only to discuss - not to reject the entire idea.

how so? they review the reports as usual, click a mute button, click a black mark button, and then lock the account until some1 finds time to clear the scammers bank - whether that takes 1 minute or 1 year. the time it would take is irrelevant and only another set back to the scammer b/c his account is locked

To be honest I dont think Jagex really reviews the reports that thoroughly considering all the stories ive heard of unjustified bannings. The thing about delivering the entire bank to the victim would be too difficult to do, where would you put all the items if the victims bank is too full to fit everything, and if it is a mistake which Jagex is notorious for what would happen to the guy that just lost everything since they have a policy of not returning items.

Btw, i am not a scammer, i just dont think this will work.

they make mistakes with bannings and stuff, but not with scamming. you have to be extremely stupid not to recognize a scam with a 60 second report.

if there are too many items or if p2p items are going to a f2p'er, then they would just get deleted.

and of course, there would be appeals.

they do review them. even if one scammer is caught, it would make a difference. besides, during the first week, they could put all their effort into enforcing it to spread a message and then concentrate on the game while trying to catch as many as possible like they do now

My thought on this is it would be too easy to scam Jagex. Already, we have people who commit "entrapment" where they lead other players into breaking the rules then report those players, when they themselves are truly at fault. If the actions you described were to take place, then the scammer would end up with the victim's stuff.

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but, I am not sure you realize tht what you heard is not what I meant.

It takes two to scam: the scammer and the scammed

Personally, I don't think Jagex should do any more than they already do. I've played this game for 4+ years and have never been scammed. Why not? Because I don't let myself be taken advantage of. I'm not saying it hasn't been attempted on me, I just don't fall for it.

Remember that, if you get scammed, it's partly your fault for not checking the 2nd trade screen, or whatever you did that got you scammed. I would agree that the scammer should lose their items, since possibly most of them were obtained through scamming. But the victim doesn't deserve to receive the items in there, just because he fell for a scam.

If an abuse report is sent into jagex, and if they review it and determine that a scam did take place, then the scammer would get muted for one month

No matter how little time it would take to do so, they would have to program in the ability to mute someone for a month. Currently a person can be muted for 48 hours. They would have to program in an extended time limit, which, as I said, no matter if it takes a minute or a week, still takes time.

have his entire bank delivered to the victum (the account would be locked until a jagex mod finds time to deliver it)

I'll address this later...

and automatically recieve 2 black marks.

Nothing special here, except that it's one more black mark than usual...

it doesn't matter if it was a 1k or 100mil scam.

A scam is always a scam, but I'll poke a hole in this further down...

if you think this is too harse, then it's because you are a scammer.

Blah blah blah...

why jagex hasn't started something like this already is beyond me. releasing this announcement would eliminate ALL scamming immediately.

Scammers will always exist. Always. People will happily but their accounts on the line on the off chance that someone will hand them a jackpot. As to why JAGeX hasn't started something like this, maybe because they have bigger things to do...

Uber mod forums?

and to stop stupid posts, no i was not scammed, yes this would work, and post only to discuss - not to reject the entire idea.

It would NOT work, and here's why:

1. Mute for a month - JAGeX's stance on muting is not one of punishment, believe it or not. A mute is used to protect others, not to punish the person being muted. That's all I have to say here...

2. Two Blackmarks - JAGeX's blackmark system is fine how it is, giving out sufficient blackmarks for the offence, instead of putting a generic amount per broken rule.

3. Giving the scammer's bank to the victim - Okay, here's where I have a HUGE problem with all of this. You stated that all punishments would apply no matter how large the scam? Yay! Off to world 2 we go! Let's hunt out someone to do a minor scam on us, maybe lose a bit to them as they take 999k off of their 1000k offer, or something of the such. Okay, now open the Report Abuse page, type in their name. It's good as gold! We've been scammed, and now the scammer's entire bank will be given to us in return. In a sense, people would be scamming scammers, in which case they would have to be punished, except that there would be no solid proof they planned it beforehand. A perfect con to trick the conmen, keep RuneScape free of scammers, and make a tidy profit off it, however unfairly.

People could pretend to borrow cash from a friend; report them for item scamming and take their bank. I think that the subject to an item scam will have to learn to pay attention more carefully, and not be rewarded for getting scammed.

Although it is a nice idea, I think that alot of abuse and misunderstanding could occur. And as everyone else said, there will always be scammers. If you kill someone you usually get the death sentence, but as we all know many many people still do it. :(

A bad idea

There will always be scammers so long as there are people idiotic enough to fall for the scams. This idea would only add one more way to scam people. In fact it would be the perfect scam. A scammer could give his victim something free and then report them for scamming on the pretence that the item was not paid for. The scammer would then get all the victims bank and the poor person scammed would no way of getting his items back after an appeal (even if that were possible).

YEah I agree. Scammers = scum.

Why would timing matter? If they are scammers, it doesn't matter if they have to wait AAAAGES to get their character back.
