Kaylivel Posted July 24, 2006 Share Posted July 24, 2006 I've been playing Runescape now for about 6 weeks and it's a ton of fun. I'm one of those friendly players who'll help someone with a quest or advice. I have notice, however, there are players who are well... rude without provacation. I was fishing and this player came up and said "Noob". That doesn't bother me (I'm kinda used to it, I'm a lvl 45, but was told I'd be called noob until after lvl 50 :-k ), but what was funny was that he was a lower lvl than I. So I said "Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black?" Then he started to get really abusive--I can have a potty mouth, but he managed to say some things that were unusually inappropriate. I put him on my ignore list and reported him, not that it would do any good. Normally I ignore that kind of stuff, but he was like a psycho stalker or something. Next, I was killing cows to get hides to get my crafting lvl up, and this player out of the blue runs over to me and calls me a loser. Again, kinda funny since he was only 1 lvl above me. I ignored him but he continued to harrass me. Then there was a player I helped out for free. He needed something, uh.. fish for his kitten I believe.. and I had a lot of sardines in the bank, so I gave him some for free. No big deal. If I need more I can fish more, plus a lot of people have been very generous to me, so I'm just paying back the generosity. Later, I was in Varrock standing near a group of players of which one of these was the guy I helped. I was checking out the world map for mining spots and when I went back to the game screen, he was harassing me. What's up with these people? What's the purpose of harassing someone who is just going about their business? Players like that are creepy. What I suggest, is that you never know who might help you or be of assistance to you. It's better to be nice than nasty. Fortunately, way more players have been nice than nasty, like the nice guy who gave me a shovel when i realized I needed one for a clue scroll. Or the guy who gave me--yes GAVE--an air staff. Pass around the niceness and it'll come back to you... it's like karma ya' know? Imagine if an immature 13 year old harrased me, I knew where he was, and went and saw him. It's no long *some runescape name* against BWebb55, it is little 13 year old kid versus 15 year old 220 pound High School Fullback... My point is, they just like to fell big making fun of and harrasing people they will never meet. The only thing that you can do is just put them on your ignore list, and if they still bother you, just switch worlds. Oh, and about the "You'll stop being called at level 50 thing", don't beleive that. There are always going to be stupid people. Now that I am lvl 69 I don't get called a noob at all, unless I'm on a spare account. I never call people noobs unless they provoke me or act rude, since you did neither they had no reason to call you that. I've also noticed that almost every item i get unfairly I.E. buying an item cheaply off a low lvl that doesnt know any better, ive lost it. Like one time a girl's pick head fell off i took it and even got the handle from her. We'll before long I lost it too a scammer. I'm not mad because I know he will either loes it or get banned. Dunno, but higher lvls can be quite rude as well. Yesterday, I was in Fally after another run Zammy Wines. Some lvl 45 was yelling in Fally where Goblin Village was. Since I had to go to the Altar for the Wine, I just said him to follow me. I brought him their and he said I wa nice for a higher lvl. I don't know, but isn't it just normal when you go their, you just take them with you? It costs nothing... Tough, I'll help when I can. When someone asks for a place, I'll tell them where they have to go. If someone needs to go to Port Sarim, I'll just say they have to go to the south, they'll come in Fally, and then have to go South again, just because I don't have the time for it. I guess I'm just amazed that people can be that ignorant or perhaps socially inept is a better description. Deliberately being rude is just a behavior that to me is foreign. uscgrad91 Posted July 24, 2006 Share Posted July 24, 2006 It is a widespread problem because of the anonymity of the game, but in my experience, people helping each other and being cool to each other is more the norm. You will have rude players in any game, online or not. Look at all the trash talking that goes on in sports! I try to be cool to people and I think people are generally cool back. I only get called a noob if I don't accept someone's offer on say my mask. It is just something to ignore, I personally feel that you should just follow The Golden Rule. I have been very generous and nice to players I meet, and in turn some people do that to me. So just tough it out and be one of the good guys, there are so few of us left.
