The X-Games being...?

How could you not know what the X-Games are? A few years ago, they were huge.

Which brings me to my point - I was watching some skateboarding a few weeks ago, and it's pretty much moved back out of fame and is again the obscure type of sport it used to be. Ever since like, Tony Hawk isn't really famous anymore, you never, ever hear about it. The less hardcore fans stopped caring, so did the media, and so did the game developers (the old Tony Hawk games were some of the highest rated games ever, now they are mediocre tops).

It got me to thinking-what if you were a teen growing up at like age 12 right when skateboarding started becoming really popular a few years back. And you practiced every day, it got in the way of your social life, and you always dreamed you would be rich and famous. Then by the time you got there, people had moved on and it was a shadow of it's formal self. That would suck.

Heh well deserves them right for wanting to be rich and famous. Sports should be about fun when you are young, not training hard everyday so that you are putting your whole future on it.

Anyway I had no idea what the x-games were before that link to the articles about it. I guess they must have been big in USA, they certainly haven't been big here :P

Skating isn't about being rich and famous. If that was a would-be skaters goal, he should quit. He'll probably suck.

Does anyone know is Ben Weis is skating (inline)? I used to skate with him at the skate park here in Mankato and around town on the streets some time..He went pro a few years back and I have yet to see him on TV, aside from internet videos. He's crazy.

The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past.

Nevermind, they took Agressive Inline off the venue and added Ralley Car racing. What a bunch of crap that is. Guess it wasn't making enough money for them. Losers.

When you actually experience skateboarding, you understand that when you skate and practise and eventually improve, you're not doing it to be rich and famous.

I perfer the winter x-games. Although I haven't seen / heard about it for a while :-?

Edit: I also stopped caring for the standard X-Games when sportclimbing was ditched. That was the only reason I watched to begin with.

You don't know your skateboarding :shame:

Skateboarding has moved on from vert, even though no one in the mainstream knows it. People like Paul Rodriguez, Andrew Reynolds, Jamie Thomas, and Eric Koston have made millions off skating. There are plenty of pros and ams that are making 70+ thousand a year.

Dude They took of Inline!!!!! I know, Ralley sucks. On their tour last year Degon did a superman backflip into no handed landing then a sidesaddle double backflip. Won the gold. \' \' Hawk probbaly won't get into the top 10. I use to love him when I was five then I got my dirtbike and pwned! 9 More years til I'm 18 and get to play in the X-Games :D

Someone did the double backflip? I knew someone pulled off a superman backflip, but a double backflip, wow. I didn't watch it last because I was away on vacation :( . This year I'm recording every single event so I don't miss anything.

Just again, WHY :( did they take off inline, I hope they put it back next year after people complain about the rally cars.

That's exactly my point that no-one in the mainstream knows it. It's because we don't care anymore.

And to statements against my previous comment...I guess my choice of words was bad. Not even that people wanted to be rich and famous (though, I am 100% positive that there are/were a lot of kids that were trying to be rich and famous like Tony Hawk, so they practiced a lot). Sure, there are people who are doing it for art, or for a hobby, or for sport, but I'm sure some of those also intended to go pro and make a hefty living out of it. Sure, the best might be making 70+ thousand a year, but that's a pittance compared to what I bet Tony Hawk was making, with his advertising contracts/games based on his name. Whether or not he's as famous as a few years ago doesn't really matter, as his name still commands a moderate amount of attention.

My point was that people in every sport are doing it because they love it, but also want to be a respected pro. And in an unfortunate turn for skating, it's pretty much vanished from the mainstream (again).
