The Rasterbator - make huge wall decorations on your printer

^ That's the online version, if you follow the link there you can also get a downloadable version with no filesize/resolution limits (freeware).

What this is is a program which will take any image you give it then convert it into a PDF with loads of pages, each of which is then printed out on A4 paper and stuck on your wall to recreate a massive version of the original image. You can opt to cut the paper so only the printed parts are showing (hardly any printers can print up to the edge of the paper) or you can just have an interesting divided image which actually looks pretty good.

With this program you can make images up to 20m in size to stick on your wall using an ordinary printer, however I'd suggest you go somewhere like a library to print it out because the amount of ink used will be insane. When I get back to uni I'm going to be using the laser printers there at 5p per page - ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã1.50 for a 4-foot square poster? Not bad.

I love that site. Ive played around with it before using regular A4 but i'd love to cover the entire side of one of my walls with shiney paper on backing foam board. Would look wicked :D

That's awesome.

I'll need to remember that when I need to "decorate" a wall.

Almost makes me want to do something like this. ;)

That's incredible. On like .. 50 different levels.

Is there any way to get it without the white frames on the paper?

Unfortunately not, I think. Normal printers can't do full-bleed images. Basically meaning they can't print all the way to the edge of the paper.

I just rasterbated a few things.. soo cool. I wish I had a bunch of ink and shiny paper.

Whats A4 paper? Could I do this with like full sheet photo paper?

I would like to use my own printer so how much ink will it use for about a 6 sheet by 6 sheet wide poster? A rough guess would be nice, don't need any exact numbers or anything.

If you're doing a high quality photo, a lot of ink. Not like a whole cartidge, but definitely a lot.

I could. But it'd mean dusting off my old dot-matrix printer

Awesome. I will try this at my school's library -- I get a free 100 printed pages anyways (that I never use).

Yes, if you look in the program it asks if you want to put cutout lines around the printed part. Just cut the printed part out and stick that on the wall.

It is just by chance that I only posted pictures of those with the borders still on.

The downloadable program also enables you to do them in colour :D

I quite liked the "artsy" look from it. ::'

Does the quality of the prints dissipate the closer they are observed? :(

I'd like to dedicate an outside wall to just saying "bugger off!". That'd look awesome on a drive-by. 8-)

The quality depends on what dot size you use. I created a 3'6" square image which I'll post in a little while using 5mm dot size, it looks decent. Generally the things scale up and don't look pixellated.

Edit: here it is, poor quality camera phone image though.

That's awesome. I'm running out of ink atm so I can't try it yet

Awesome program. I have found that it's best to use the smallest dots you can as it allows for greater detail. Unless you're going for a stylised effect.

Edit: just noticed this is an old topic. I don't think it warrants locking since I doubt you'd like ShadowFaxPZ creating a new topic just to ask that question. His question is on-topic and not spammy.

I was going to make a really big picture to put on backing foam board for my room but my damn printer stopped working. I had in mind a black and white New York city scape or something.

I just attempted one and the god damn printer decided to run out of ink :x

Even done in black and white though, they don't look too shabby at all so I might use up some spare print credit I have at school tomorrow morning.

I feel so bad using 9 pages worth of ink :uhh:

But I hope it looks good
