RS economy going to crash?

Featured Replies

Edit: I realise now after i post this how long it is but if you can get through it if you can lol

I played 2 yrs ago and got pretty good (100 cbt etc) and then quit . Now i come back and phats are 700m and santas are 25m, wow! but think about this. you will never have a cannon be more than the worthwile price of 550k to 600k or a yew log/string/nat because they still make the same when you alch them so they need the same prices. so theirs no inflation yet phats have just 10x their market price. In the real world (thats where you live, breath, eat, hang out with friends (if you havent been affected too much with this game) girlfriends, school, etc) everything has inflation (the raise of the price) along with the value of the dollar being raised. And i mean EVERYTHING, the clothes you wear, the food you eat, the supplies you need. But in the game half the items will 10x their value and the other half will stay relatively priced. Now the only person who will buy a party hat is someone who has had a party hat, i mean you will NEVER be able to buy a party hat unless youve had rares. iron ores? for get about it, you would have to spend years of getting iron ore to make 700m and then in those years if the markets increase as it has been it will be 7trillion gp. thats alot of iron ores. You can still try to merchant but as soon as you make your 100m the party hats will have gone up to 800m. I understand their are a few circumstances where someone can buy one without having a rare but thats irrelivent. So how will this be resolved? thats what im wondering my self. Soon the people who own party hats will have more party hats. Those people who sold theirs while they could them will soon be makeing money and lvling. However, i believe that the people with the party hats will soon have no one to sell to. Soon their will be maby 500 people with party hats (i know its hard to believe but no one else can afford them) then when people realise they wont keep their value thell try to sell. maby one person will buy a few but then EVERYONE of those 500 or 499 or whatever will realise that no one wants them and panic. then try to sell for alot cheaper but still nothing so soon the party hat will be reduced to less than a set of full dragon and soon lower. So don't start worrying :ohnoes: if you have a phat because i may be wrong but the party hats will still go up in value for a little while. But just be aware, nothing in the stock market goes up forever (dunno why i said that but i guess a phat is a stock in the buisness of rares ). Thats my opinion so anyone who is interested or wants to say something say it in this post. BTW= If you disagree post your point, dont start spamming you illiterate brats. Also, if you dont know a word go to http://wikipedia.com and if you dont know half of what i said just agree with me like you do know :D

1)Rares will NEVER drop in value in long the long term (They have been known to drop slightly after a large raise in price, but this is different)

2)New people DO get into the rares game. If they did not, then the price of rares could not rise. There is no supply and demand if there is no demand, and as such the price could not rise if there weren't new people bringing more money into the rares market.

IMO rares will eventually peak at a certain price, but it won't happen any time soon, and when it does, rare prices will REMAIN THE SAME, not come crashing down (Do you really think a merchant is going to sell his phat for less then he bought it for? Not a chance in hell since he's someone in it for the money anyway)

One of the unique things about rares is that they're the only items you can hold onto when merchanting. It'd be stupid to hold on to a d chain for a couple months before selling it, but you can do that with a phat. Because of this, if a merchant has a hard time selling a phat, he can simply wait for the economy to catch up to his prices.

Exactly. :uhh:

But if you haven't noticed runescape has nothing to do with how the stock market works. If an item is rare, then it just can't go down in rarity, hence it can't go down in price.

Even if demand drops like you suggested, the hats are still rare. People do make lots of fast money. In a Tip it times article by Duke Freedom a graph showed that inflation has followed almost exactly the price of party hats and rares. As long as there is tons of gp being created and floating around that people own, they'll go into phats.

But the reason it is rare is because it is RARE. Meaning there are so little of them left. What happens when there are about 500 PHATS left in the game? What price do you think they will be then, knowing how high they are now? In this case, NO ONE and I mean NO ONE, unless they already have a PHAT, will be able to afford one.

So in the end, the owners will look to sell and all they can find are other phat owners...knowing that they can no longer make profit off of them, they will try to sell as low as they can, causing them to lower in price. I'd give it a couple of years.

Or the owners have them from when they were dropped in 2001, and enjoy being a proud owner, and don't plan on selling them, ever... I've had a white since the drop, and just recently bought a purple after selling some santas (which are also skyrocketing in price). For some people, it's not about the money, its about being the proud owner of such a treasured, admired, rare item.

Party hat going down to full dragon!?! It might go down slightly but not that much. People will not lose 700 mil. They'll rather have a expensive item than losing tens of millions.

it raised coz the rarety raised

if a phat was 1k would u buy it, to you, it'd look like a pooey paper xmas junk thing, but now its expensive its so much more. i personally hate em, they still look poey to me, i prefer a beret

Runescape economics don't reflect real life economics. Money doesn't magically appear in real life like from high alching in rs. Also the people with party hats don't all buy and sell from each other, its not like a club. New and more people constantly want rares, and when theres only a couple hundred left the prices will be so high very few could afford them, but there will be people willing to pay and able to pay.

NOOOOOO some day the markets gonna crash and well all have to

Pick thier food out of garbage cans and eat even the smallest leftovers as a full meal.

Then when it seems to be at its worst:

A leader will rise and take control of the entire ecomnomy

And when it seems to be all over:

Poverty and poorness rose, and the gap between the rich and the poor widened

EVERYONE RUN AROUND IN CIRCLES!!!!

If no one noticed the reason that rares just rose is cause cursed you got banned. If you remember correctly he had 200 santas....30+ mask sets and over 20 phat sets. Thats a good chunk to lose from the economy. (mainly why santas went up the most)

Doesn't bother me either way, I see rares as 10gp or whatever the general store price is. I have nothing to do with them and never will because they're ugly and easy money for doing nothing lol.

I't doesn't matter what happens to party hats, I'll probably never be able to afford one :(

I think your lookin at this the wrong way, the rares in this game aren't like the stock market where u invest some money and hope the prices go up. Its like rares in the rl, if u get some sort of ancient egyption artefact and keep it perfectly preserved, which is what happens in this game, then the value of it will forever rise.

I dunno if it's because i've been playing tomb raider too much, but that egyption artefact is gonna get stolen by a japanese man, and you're gonna have to kill him.

I have to agree with most people on this thread - I can't see a crash anytime soon.

Like you said, the Runescape economy is totally different from the real world economy because some items in the Runescape ecomony aren't affected by inflation - in fact the majority of items aren't.

Yet you're making predictions about the Runescape economy based on the real world economy when we've already seen that the two are totally different - it just doesn't work that way.

just an idea, no one take it personally or anything lol, i was just wondering how big a gap it could get untill something happened from a stationary price like a yew log to the phats. i know that they will keep going up but i was just discussing it :)

P hats shouldn't be compared to the stock market unless your talking about oil barrels.

Think of P hats as the price of oil. It is always going up...only way oil prices are ever going to go down is if there is a new source(dupe) or no longer a need for it(untradable).

now neither of those are prolly going to happen on runescape, so prices are prolly always going to go up.

w4M8t.png

I think phats wont get higher than 1000 mill a piece.

You can't stop prices from increasing when there is no more being made and more and more people want them. Flat out, the prices will not stop going up. They can't. Just like in real life. Eventually, prices go up and up and up.

something your missing there... its called cutting your losses

if you cant sell then for that rediculous price.. then they will cut their losses and the prices will come down

this DOES happen in the real world with stocks whne people see their stocks coming down they have a tendency to sell, cut their losses and look for a stock that will make them some money

in addition to this, if these rares get spread around to the slightly less rich(those without rares), then the prices will eventually go back up after this crash becuase there are still only so may rares and more people will have them, hence the price going up... i think thats claled like a bull market economy or somthing buy i mayyy be wrong(most likely \' )

Go back and read the third paragraph you quoted, though I'll bring up that point again:

Merchants aren't stupid. They know that even if no one wants to buy their phats now, that eventually the price will rise again and people will pay their price. Rares are the only items in the game that go up in value if you hold on to them.

If I buy a d chain, and the price drops, I'm going to sell it to cut my losses.

If I buy a green phat, and notice the price falls, I'll simply hold on to it. The price will rise back up eventually, and I'd much rather wait a while then lose millions (which I'm sure most merchants would agree with)
