Stats Menu too small to create new skills?(Solution image!)

Several people are worried that if Jagex adds new skills that they will have to either make the icons incredibly smaller, or add a scroll bar to the status menu.

I created a small example of how it could easily fit in two more stats without causing much problems.

I also organized the icons in a way I find slightly better.. Top two bars are combat related skills.. Middle bar is non-merchanting skills(Skills where you can't make/catch things and sell them..). Bottom bars are the more merchanting related skills.

runescapestatsyu8.png

The above stats and numbers are wrong. Those skills do not equal the total skill level. It is simply for display, and I was too lazy to change all the numbers.

Someone wanted to see what it would look like with a black bar in the middle insted of yellow.. Here ya go:

2mi2fdt.png

The two skill icons are fake and created by myself. They are however the two most likely skills should any new ones be made.

Gears = Tech/Engineering(New Combat Skill that allows people to use technowledgy related weaponry/machines/vehicals(airship pilots!)/traps/etc.. Mainly dwarf and gnome weapons. The more gunlike dwarf weapons would also give range exp when you fire them.)

Deer = Hunting(Land version of fishing with traps and such..)

This suggestion is more for how the stats menu could look.. However many people have decided to comment about how gears weren't invented in the medieval days(Which is wrong, and RuneScape is a fantasy game.. Might I remind you of dwarfs, dragons, magicians, etc..?).. So here is a post I made in this thread earlier on to explain the technowledgy in RuneScape, and how you are an idiot if you don't realize RuneScape is a FANTASY game..

Jagex has stated clearly that RuneScape is a FANTASY game.. You non-gamers have never played a fantasy RPG before(Ie. Final Fantasy 1-13).. Like honestly...

Also here are a bunch of things in the game that are too high tech for all those whiners around here(OMG.. A couple of you guys said you'd quit RuneScape if there were any gears, technowledgy, or guns added to RuneScape...... Prepare to quit!):

Keldagrim - Geeze.. Have you guys never been to this dwarf city?

Dwarf Cannon - It's a projectile weapon.. Call the cops!

Ship cannons - Have you seen all the ships with cannons on the side? In fact in one quest we even had to fix the cannons so we could bombard the enemy ship...

Fixed Device - This Gnome fixed device is just like a bazooka! The only difference is it fires frogs filled with paint!

Elemental Workshop - Have any of you guys ever been underneith Seers Village? Honestly we are looking at lots of technowledgy there alone..

Golems - For those who have an interest in the more desert related quests.. You might recall the golems.. These golems were robots that the Saradominists used to use to wage war on their enemies.. However this lost technowledgy was shunned as being too advanced..

Airship - The wise old man has a model of an airship in his home.

Gliders - The gnomes can fly across the sky in gliders.. Ohmy.. Too advanced for your prehistoric brains to comprehend? =D

Draw Bridges/Gates/Etc.. - Gears and opening mechinisms line the streets of RuneScape!

Metal Press - Remember the Swans Song quest? In that fishing village there is a metal press there..

Dwarf Lifts - In the Misc/Etc dungeons there are steam powered lifts build by the dwarfs.

Dwarf Drill - In the Dorgushuun(sp?) quests there is this drill that can drive under ground!

Mine Carts - MAGIC!!!! HOW DO THESE THINGS MOVE ACROSS THE RAILS!!! HAX0RS!!!!!

Illusion Machine - In the Gnome lands there is a machine that can reveal things that are hidden by using advanced technowledgy and science. Unlike the Ring of Visibility which is purely magic.

Clocks/Clocktower - Throughout RuneScape there are clocks.. What do clocks run on, you ask? Do they have gears? No. It's all magic!!! The gears we collect in the clocktower south of Ardougne was simply to cast a magical spell to make the clocktower which runs on magic to work again, of course. Since as we all know, gears didn't exist in the medieval times, but magic and fire breathing dragons did.(sarcasm)

Do I really need to go on? Or should I repeat over and over:

RUNESCAPE IS A FANTASY GAME IT IS NOT REALITY!

RUNESCAPE IS A FANTASY GAME IT IS NOT REALITY!

It looks really great!

And the tech would be a nice new skill :)

I got the idea for the Tech skill when I was wearing the Gnome Goggles... Don't they just give you the feeling of being a mechanic or someone in a fantasy game that uses guns/technowledgy related weaponry?

With this layout, there's actually room for 4 more skill beyond that. I'm thinking.... Artistry?

The skill you made up, tech, will NEVER be made. Runescape is a medival game (with a few pushing of medival limits) but there will never be handguns/whatever it is that you are suggesting.

You are right about this. I don't see "hunting" as a viable skill, either. Too much like slayer. However, his idea for re-arranging the view without using scrollbars is good, which is the primary gist of this suggestion.

In old times there were verry primitive guns just they were gigantic so the're not talked about to much as time wen't on things get smaller, anyway the first 'guns' were like mini cannons the ammo was big and the 'guns' were messured in tons probly

anyway i'll suport so sign me up

this thread isn't about the skills he's talking about, but the layout. But tech is just a step back imo. Rs isn't a shooting game, and this would draw a lot of people away from it. Anyway, nice idea...but i think they got it under control. Besides, all that yellow makes my eyes hurt :XD:

Please remember the dwarf cannon, the dwarf drill, Gnome Fixed Device(Bazooka), Gnome Gliders, Gnome Battleships, the lost technowledgy underneith seers, the golems(They are robots made far in the past), etc... Dwarfs and Gnomes do indeed have the technowledgy to make projectile weapons, airships, and much-much more.

But as I said already.. It was only for how it can be layed out so Jagex wouldn't need a scroll bar. The two skills I gave were simply examples.

Also there is enough room for 4 skills underneith the current ones.. But that's just incase Jagex ever finds the need to create more than 2 new skills.

ALSO!!! Who was the person who said RuneScape was a medieval game???? Jagex has stated a million times that RuneScape is fantasy. If they wanted to they could have UFO's bombarding Falador, and laser guns.

Have you people honestly forgotten about the Final Fantasy games? They too are fantasy, and centred around the medieval time line.. However they have technowledgy built into them as well.

Maybe instead of 'Tech' it would be called 'Mechanics' where you can build a variety of things that uses gears and such, and uses natural sources (Such as water/wind/man power) for power. It would be pretty funny to see a pedal-powered robot (Can you say Robot Rampage? ). although the robot idea sounds farfetched I'm sure that they'd just incorporate the 'Tech' skill (With a few tweaks to make it more mediviel) into construction.

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

i dont like the technology thing

runescape is sopposed to be medeval(thats probably not how u spell it) and stuff. Technology doesnt go with runescape

However i do like the hunting idea. You should expand on it.

Read the entire topic next time, please

I'll support the layout, and 2 new skills. They are both keen ideas but I dont think that you could possiably actraully make a skill out of the two. I also believe hunting would be best off as a minigame (possiably F2p? or p2p only) rather then a skill. They were both good ideas, and good that you brought them up, but unless you show me a complete thought out layout of the skill, npcs, insight, and/or rewards, I dont think they are ideas capable to be made into a skill.

Now basing off your idea, if I have some free time i'll look into making an outline of a hunting minigame. It's going to take alot of thinking and alot of brain power. You could help if you wish, just drop me a pm.

So we can have heat-seeking auto-cannons but we can't have a primitive 15th century arquebus?

I am personally expecting firearms from the Eastern update. The Japanese were the first to perfect the matchlock as a weapon of honour, instead of the peasant's tool.

I posted several examples of why RuneScape is a fantasy game, and how it has advanced technowledgy in it on RuneVillage.. I decided to update this first post with the exact same thing I said there.

Please take the time to read all the things in RuneScape that prove there is much more technowledgy then these noobs seem to think.

I see you listed examples that already ingame, maybe think up some level requirements, and/or other skills and materials, for new items and throw a list together.

I don't think you understand what I said. I was trying to prove to all the numskulls that RuneScape isn't prehistoric.

Yep we have to forward plan a lot! Amazing to think that most of what we are planning on releasing over the next month we started in June or earlier. Skills take even longer, but again we always have at least 1 skill in development, and normally overlap the development so you don't have to wait so long between them.

the new skills - i like, sometimes you arent close to the coast let alone a fishing spot for food, and land based food like rats and chickens do suck something awful, and mechanics hey i couldnt care less, if its fun ill do it if it isnt i wont

the layout - hmm i dont like it hurts my eyes, the numbers are too close and the cb lvl box is too big, and the original diagonals look better than simple over/under in my views. but then again i got irritated enough when cons got added and i culdnt see my xp anymore w/o hovering lol

maybe a second skill page is a simpler and less eye straining answer?

Jagex has it under control. They are people who's job is to improve the game and get ideas. The will never use this idea, seeing as they aren't members of Tip.It.

They know what they are doing and what they want to do, and how they want to do it.
