Proper Light Sources [Updated! 10/15/06] Fixing the options

Featured Replies

Perhaps this could be an option for those people that play on High Detail, kinda like the music hmm :?: Personally, for those of us who have slower computers, this would only slow the loading time of Runescape. #-o

But, otherwise, I support. Very good idea

I was going to have this display for high detail only. I then figured that if you didnt like the concept, but liked high detail, it would force some players to low detail. That way I figured it would be best high detail only BUT have an option to turn it off or on

I like the idea, personally, but I believe it wouldn't work so well with the current lighting in some rooms. Perhaps they could add some others to make up for the darker rooms such as the dining hall.

Maybe you could add a slight yellow-ish glow to the rooms lit by a fireplace or torches?

You might want to change the text that is displayed on the screen to its normal brightness. The split private chat and the options displayed in the top left-hand corner of the screen.

Some rooms would be excessively dark, but I also did a bit of over shading in the dining hall. The text at the bottem will remain the same, I just didnt change the colors back to normal. I left them alone, and shaded over them so I could cover the entire area. If this is put into effect then yes, the split private chat color will remain the same

Ive quit enough times to quit again and be garunteed im guna be bribed back, totally worth it ;) until next month anyway

I agree fully. Would add an amount of realism to the game. Dungeon's are supposed to be dark and spooky, not look just as bright as the sun-light day outside!! #-o

Acutally it's a good idea, as long as it's not too dark and doesn't cause the computer to lag.

EDIT: (I support you.)

Like forum text games much?

um... from... MARS, yes, in the third county from the... left.

It would be cool, would give firemaking a use, and make me loads of cash! I support!

lol that was a good story but his eyesight must be poor... it's a well known fact that mods only drop garages on players.

Best graphical idea since... sliced bread. You'd better change the list to 16 people, cause I support!

There's no sig here. Move it along...

nais idea ;) :XD:

Dude there is already an option on if you want it light and dark, look:

dudelightherehf8.png

And I personally think it wouldn't work out because, wait, why would anyone want to be in darkness just to fight some skeletons?

And in that room where time stops, there are some candles, ever thought about that?

I really don't support since it wouldn't work out, there doesn't seem enough room for that options now that the settings pannel's changed. :shame:

Wouldn't this mean you'd need a light source in a lot of places? I mean like yeah the torches light up but like that one guy said it's not good for people's eyesight and the torches are good as is. I know I'm going to get flamed for my opinion but the hell with it. My opinion is my opinion, you don't like, you don't like.

I'll have to go try and configure a way to incoperate this into the NEW interface. They seemed to take up the entire window with just a few options, I really dont like it.

Theres a great difference between my idea and "screen brightness"

Thanks for reminding me. I thought that having this option implanted that now you could take your lamp/mining helmet into dungeons and help light up the joint. This would give lamps a more universal use

In a cavern, yes it will be dark without a light source, but in most cases if there IS a light source the surrounding area regardless of distance form said light source wont be pitch black dark, due to reflection of light off of the walls.

Buildings should never be as dark as how you edited them, atleast not in the daytime which is all that matter since runescape is locked in a perpexual daylight (two suns maybe?)

Point is, I realize your point, but you darkened the area's to a point that it's no longer realistic and emersive, but instead annoying and irritating.

Maybe you just have a heavy brush hand when it comes to photoshop, maybe you meant to make them that dark, I don't know

But, buildings shouldn't change, due to plenty of windows, and lots of sunshine

caverns could use a psuedo dynamic lighting being not quite realtime but instead static to it's area.

i've said it before, i'll say it again, SOME of those images ARE over-shaded. The two that came out the best would have to be the lumbridge basement and the edgeville dungeon.

I get your point of realism, but i've seen those torchs (have you noticed the size of the flame? tiny) light up some pretty dang large areas (Chaos druids cavern for instance.

A Torch of that size would NOT be able to light up such a large area no matter how much light reflected off the walls.

w00t, very good idea, i support!!!

( but only if they make it f2p)

Give a man a fish, and he'll choke on the bones. Result: You get the rest of the fish.

Teach a man to fish, and he'll catch a lot of fish, then choke on one of the bones. Result: You get all the fish he caught.

Teaching people is better.

I support this, completly. Especially if you have the possible effect on/off thing.

Im not good at making pixel items. So I just put a torch on there. The Torch symbolizes Lighting Effects (on/off)

Nice idea. I am a supporter!

i support.

but, it should be light in castles becasue they probaly had tourches.and also, if you have good firemaking, you can have a torch (goes in place of sheild on equip menu) and the cicle of light gets bigger.

good idea i support

I was thinking about making it an option, so if you want more light you have to sacrafice a shield.

Also, to make crafting/lamp making/fighting more interesting, for a random event, if I make lamps weildable, then in combat the lamp can be smashed while fighting
