Help needed from Desert Treasure VETERANS!

Recommended Posts

I have finally decided thats it's time to do Desert Treasure. Not for the incredibly powerful spells that are useful at the barrows, or the canifis teleport that is useful at the barrows, but because i want to get barrows gloves (interestingly enough, not obtainable at the barows :-s ) I have read all sorts of guides on the quest, and many have contradicting information. I have created this thread for input from people who have DONE the quest, and can answer my questions directly. I will have a section on each boss, with what i know about him, and what i need to know.

DAMIS:

THE PLAN: EDITED: I will just tank through both forms with a ton of p pots and earth blast.

QUESTIONS: Do I have any advocates for the poison-and-run method?

KAMIL:

THE PLAN: EDITED: I will use fire bolt with chaos gauntlets, praying melee, eating when he mages. I am going to need a HELL of a lot of super restores...

QUESTIONS: Does his ice barrage hit 5 or 30???? I have heard both

FAREED:

THE PLAN: Just pray melee and use water wave (with ice gloves, of course). I will eat in the rare event he uses flames of zamorak.

QUESTIONS: Ummm... is there anything at all I need to worry about with him?

DESSOUS:

THE PLAN: Earth blast, but I dont know what prayer to use because nobody has told me whether it is possible to safespot him (in which case magic protect against the bats) or not (in which case melee protect against his scary level 100-whatever-strength melees)

QUESTIONS: Hmm... I still need to know whether/how often he teleports to you (i.e. could i just mage him from over the fence?)

THE PYRAMID:

THE PLAN: Umm... just run through it (with melee protect on?) i guess.

QUESTIONS: How much trouble did you have with the traps?

Thanks everybody!

KAMIL:

THE PLAN: I will use fire bolt with chaos gauntlets, praying magic, eating when he melees. I am going to need a HELL of a lot of super restores...

QUESTIONS: I am fairly sure that he can hit 30's with magic, so praying magic would be the best option. However, would it be better to pray melee?

...

THE PYRAMID:

THE PLAN: Umm... just run through it with melee protect on i guess.

QUESTIONS: How hard is it with the pit traps? Please tell me how much of a problem they are.

For Kamil, personally, I couldn't defeat him with Mage (was approx. 75 mage at time of completing DT, tried same spell and technic as you mentioned). I know all the guides tell you to protect mage, but I highly doubt it's possible without an extremely high mage level as all the very fast melee hits add up quickly. I couldn't defeat him with mage the first time, so I tele'd and decided to try something else. I came back with full black dhide, whip, dds and super set (and restore pots of course) and just protected melee. I defeated him quite quickly, with at least 2 1/2 rows of food to spare.

I would suggest still trieing to beat him with mage, but if you cannot, then definitly try meleeing him.

Also, with the pyramid, it'd say it's pretty hard to accomplish. Unless you are extremely lucky, you will need to try several times. I would suggest just taking Boots of Lightness, perhaps an agility pot or two, and rest food. (I don't think protect melee is needed that much.)

Just remember to never stop trieing :P The rewards are absolutely worth it \' Good luck to ya!

DAMIS:

THE PLAN: For the first form, I will just pray melee and mage him, drinking prayer potions as necessary. For the second form, I will switch to poison-and-run, repoisoning him whenever I get enough energy for a special.

QUESTIONS: Is there a preferred spell to mage him with? One of the very many things I have heard is that he is weak against earth spells, is this true? If not i will probably use slayer dart.

Yes, he's rather weak to earth spells, however, I used the torch safespot method, so I can't help you much more here :s

I would suggest against mage on him, you're going to be getting your stats drained and stuff, so I'd get out d hide and a whip/dds combo, and pray melee protect, if I remember correctly, he only hits double 5's with mage, but higher with melee.

FAREED:

THE PLAN: Just pray melee and use water wave (with ice gloves, of course). I will eat in the event he uses flames of zamorak.

QUESTIONS: Ummm... is there anything at all I need to worry about with him?

This guy's a pushover, I killed him super potted d scimmy praying melee protect and he died in about 10 hits. Bring some food though, he will use mage occasionally.

DESSOUS:

THE PLAN: I have no blimping idea!

QUESTIONS: OK, this is the boss that I seem to be able to obtain the least information about. First, I know that he melees, and sends bats flying at you. If you have the silver pot the bats will hit 2 5's. Apparently, if you pray magic, the bats hit a 5 and a 0, is this true? One guide said he will teleport to you if you try to mage/range/hally him from over the fence, is this true? If it is, if will be impossible to avoid him meleeing you, and i should pray melee, correct? If i do this, how much damage will i take from the bats (i.e. how often will he send them at me?) What spell should I use on him? I really am clueless in this area, so if anybody posts a method that worked really well for them, it would really great.

I'm not too sure about him, I used the safespot so he really was no problem for me, try searching around to see if there still is a safe spot.

THE PYRAMID:

THE PLAN: Umm... just run through it with melee protect on i guess.

QUESTIONS: How hard is it with the pit traps? Please tell me how much of a problem they are.

Well, I apparently got really lucky, I never encountered a pit trap. I would suggest 8 P pots, and 20 energy pots if your unsure of your abilities.

Thanks everybody!

READ THIS BEFORE YOU READ BELOW: Make sure you tele and bank your diamond as SOON as you get it. Sometimes you will be confronted by a lvl 98 guy who will use a DDP++ and the specs, he can turn quite nasty, especially if your prayer is down. SO BANK THE GEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

DAMIS:

Yes, he IS weak to earth spells. Before you do Damis, I recommend you get the ghostly robes. They are a cheap source of a decent mage atk. Mage Damis using earth blast for BOTH forms, make sure you take plenty of p pots, then tele when you get gem.

KAMIL:

Easily the toughest boss in DT, stick with your plan of fire bolting. A bit of relief, Kamil's so called 'Ice Barrage' only hits 5's with magic, but he uses the spell quite a lot. He actually has quite low hp, so hit him when you can, and eat/restore when you are frozen, you may need to take 2 trips, one to take the trolls, and one to get Kamil. Good luck with this guy.

FAREED:

NOT A THING!! Just stand next to him with Protect from Melee, and he will Melee you constantly, nothing to worry about. Just water wave him, he is easily the easiest boss in DT.

DESSOUS:

There are many methods for Dessous and this is where I probably can't help you the most. You can try Air Waving him, you can try ranging him or you can melee him! Its up to you. Keep protect from melee on and make sure you bring plenty of sharks. Dessous casts an annoying bat spell that takes off constant 5's.

PYRAMID:

Bring something to restore the energy, one antipoison in case you are poisoned and a few sharks, then run for the pyramid. A lower weight and a decent Agility level can help get through quicker. Remember boots of lightness!

I hope I could help, good luck with DT!

is it odd that i didnt fall once during the pyramid?

on topic: pretty sure i pray melee'd the vampire and while his bats were quite annoying they were nothing to really worry about.

might be worth it to note that i did DT at around 103 combat, and the only part i had any doubts about was getting to and defeating kamil.

Pyramid, preety easy. I didn't fail once. I did have a lot of run restore pots.

Damis they say he drains prayer fast, but i found with a bunch of p pots hes easy, and do earth blast/wave both forms.

Dessous, I think I melee protected and just took the 10 damage from the bats, also earth blast/waving.

Kamil, Fire spells with melee protect, because if you get close to him he doesn't mage as much. But do bring more food than super restores, I've heard about people dieing because they brought to many restores and not enough food.

Fareed, do I need to say it.

You should be fine.

I did it easily at 67 magic. I'd suggest not using the poison and run against the second damis, just tank him with your prayer.

Kamil's ice barrage does none or minimal damage, so what ever you do, do not put on protect from magic (caused him to use melee 100% of the time). You won't need too many super restores, I did it with a couple 4 dose prayer potions and four 3 dose reg restores.

The level 98 stranger that attacks you has an unlimited special bar, so watch out whenever you have the diamond in your inventory.

hmmmm... i still need to know: does dessous teleport to you or not? meaning, could i just mage him over the railing?

He will tele, he won't tele you. If you try and run away (such as mage or hally him over some obsticle), he will teleport next to you and continue attacking. He will do this three times, and the fourth time you try and run away from him, he will say that you are not worth his time and go back into the coffin. To fight him again, you'll have to use the garlic thing on him again. (So I'd suggest making at least a couple of those things and bank the rest, so you don't have to stop and gather the ingreadiants all over again.)

Dessous: At 60+ range, ranging him with protect from range on is the way to go. I saw a friend do it (following my advice cuz I did it too), and he had half an inventroy of sharks left. Use the 15% range prayer and steel skin.

Kamil: Wear your best dhides, turn protect from mage on, and as soon as you get in melee range turn pro melee on. That way the freezing spell (hits 10) most likely won't hit. Fire BOLT him, you won't use a lot of restores then. Chaos gauntlets if you have them.

Fareed: If you have problems with him you should be shot and skinned.

Damis: Take snare and earth blast/wave runes. Snare him, run a bit (with pro melee on for the other monsters) and blast him till he moves again. Repeat. I used 3 pray pots instead of the 25 people use when they do him in close combat.

Hope it helped.

I can't be bothered reading other people's replies, but here's the way to go in my opinion :

Kamil : I can't really help you with this guy. I had a lot of trouble with him. What you said you're doing with him sounds good.

Fareed : Pushover. You'll have no trouble with him. Just wear your ice gloves, melee pray, and bring some food just incase, but you probably won't need it.

Damis : Run north, and look along the west wall. There's a torch there. Go behind it, Damis and alot of other monsters will be blocked there. Whenever you feel ready, run out, put in 1 or 2 attacks, then come back. Make sure your prayer doesn't run out. I found him quite easy.

Dessous : Put him on the opposite side of the fence to you. The first time you attack him, he'll stay on his side, the 2nd time, he'll teleport next to you [occasionally it will glitch, and you'll get an extra chance to attack him without having to move], so just switch sides. Continue doing this until he dies.

Hope this helped.

Cool.

Won't Dessous leave if he has to teleport more than 3 times?

DAMIS:

THE PLAN: EDITED: I will just tank through both forms with a ton of p pots and earth blast.

Careful, the pots go by FAST

Whatever people say i actually felt this was my hardest. I managed it using earth wave with 58 prayer + 12 prayer doses. I'd recommend 8 (4) pots and rest sharkies/potatoes. Poison and run method = bad.

KAMIL:

THE PLAN: EDITED: I will use fire bolt with chaos gauntlets, praying melee, eating when he mages. I am going to need a HELL of a lot of super restores...

Use the archive of wisdom guide. I used fire wave and blast and it was mediocrely hard. If you are using bolt be prepared...To shell out alot Super Restore (4). Luckily, prayer lasts normal. Dont forget a little food (but not too much) and you'll probably need to use pro melee throughout the 10-20 minutes it takes. VERY long..

FAREED:

THE PLAN: Just pray melee and use water wave (with ice gloves, of course). I will eat in the rare event he uses flames of zamorak.

QUESTIONS: Ummm... is there anything at all I need to worry about with him?

I dont remember... review guide.

I heard bats...If he's the one that sends out bats DONT WORRY! Bats arent bad at all...Use prayers. A shark heals 20, a bat hits 5.

THE PYRAMID:

THE PLAN: Umm... just run through it (with melee protect on?) i guess.

QUESTIONS: How much trouble did you have with the traps?

Erm...Traps? It was odd...When i ran through there weren't any traps. I nearly ran out of prayer pots though when i didnt realize the mummies hit 19 easily. Pro melee whole time. Oh, and i was only the mininum 53 theiving

Good luck! I hope i'm not too late and you already finished =p

Yes there are "traps". I believe he's talking about falling through the floor and ending up outside of the pyramid with around 22 damage. Quite annoying because it can happen on any floor and running is the only way to lessen the chances of it happening.

I'm one lucky lad then :-) i was running (often in circles and overlapping) for a long time there =-p

Lol yes you were.

I personally just finished the quest today, doing the pyramid only couple hours ago. I only fell once and that was on the top floor, not even halfway to the first ladder lol.

Then I ran out of run on last floor and had to walk to whole way. Didn't fall though. Only 53 agility too  .
