PumpkinPete112
Well you know how it is, emo is a "bad" music, people say stuff if you listen to it and such, whatever. BUt im a pretty big fan of Punk music. I think that this is a way diffrent genre than emo but some of my classmates tend to differ, sometimes adding ridicule for my taste in music. I of course dont care about this enough to change what I listen to. What do you guys think? Sig

Satenza
Depends what you classify as Punk. If your talking about bands like The Sex Pistols then i agree punk is better. If your talking about bands like Greenday who are not really punk then i disagree. With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.
zach312
I really don't differentiate much between the two, I tend to classify emo as unbelievably horrid punk. But if I saw them as different, punk is worlds ahead of emo. Mugutu

TheEmoSanta
Emo and Punk are worlds apart, seeing as how Emo just goes on about wanting to die... Falco, be less ignorant on your music opinion, although this doesn't only apply to you of course. However you should try listening to some of this music labled as 'Emo' before you determine that its all about wanting to die/killing yourself/slitting wrists. Most notable I think is that you neglect to realize 'Emo' music just defines the great emotion put into the music... so to classify anything as 'Emo' would be to say all forms of music are labled into that genre, as all (well most) music has some form of feeling behind it. Now to the topic at hand (Although I hate the emo classification), Punk and 'Emo' have some hybrids, especially among the Hardcore and Pop-Punk scenes... Bands such as Angels and Airwaves, Green Day (American Idiot album only -horrid album by a less than stellar band-), and My Chemical Romance are labled as 'Emo'. I'll end this now and I know it is fairly incomplete. I may write more/edit my post later when I'm less tired ~Nick~ P.S. I expect comments on my Tip.It name but it is merely a mockery of the 'Emo' term and nothing more ;)
Poopingman
Pure punk really doesn't exist much anymore. Most of it kind of crosses the line into pop territory, amongst other things. pfilc23
Well, given that the definition of Emo is very debatable, with sub-genres such as emocore and screamo, it's very difficult to analyze. Though most people do agree that emo is a sub-genre of punk itself. It seems as time progresses it's nearly impossible to label any band as a certain genre. Look at all of them closely tied to punk: hardcore punk, horror punk, Anacho-punk, Christian punk, crust, garage, Oi!, psychedlic punk, death punk, pop punk, DIY punk, politico-punk, emo, emocore, screamo, skacore, ska punk, reggae-punk, psychobilly, rockabilly, alt-county, post-hardcore, alt-hardcore, celtic-punk, funkcore, not to mention all the cross-genres with metal and hardcore. All this to say: just listen to what you like. I've got over 350 bands on my hard drive that I consider "punk". Some bands are on the "popish" side (such as Best Interest, Billy Talent, Alexisonfire), some quite hardcore (such as F-Minus, The Unseen, Straightfaced), and everything in between. There's certain sub-genres I don't care for in general (such as old-school-UK-style, including new stuff like Artic Monkey), but I'm sure there's a band or 2 in every that I like. It's a case by case basis...you either like a band or you don't.

They are the one band I eventually had to delete off my hard drive...random kept landing on them and got tired of FF'ing. And that says something, cuz I have some pretty cheesy crap on my HD (Yellowcard and Matchbook Romance come to mind). I have not heard a single song of GC that I liked...in fact, I don't believe I call any that I've heard punk (assuming you guys weren't joking, please name a song you think is punk...maybe I'll like it). Some bands I generally don't care for, but often have some older stuff that is good. Yellowcard is a good example...lots of people say they're not good punk, but old stuff like On the Brink or Sue are quite good, fast, and hard.
