well im glad they ignored the case, but they were unneccisarily mean. Obviously this girl isnt going to run into the white house with a knife. A couple of agents talking to her a little bit, quietly, is enought to scare her to never do it again. What they did was completely unneccisary.

How were they mean? If my kid were to threated a schoolmate with death, I would spank his buns into tomorrow! Along those lines of reasoning, the Secret Service giving a nice little lecture to a girl for posting a death threat is actually very nice.

Mean would have been if they kicked down the door to the classroom, run in with gun's ready, stepped on her neck to immobilize her while they cuffed her, beating her to the point of death to extract a confession, then putting her in jail without trial for the rest of her life.

They really only gave her a warning, that's nice. They could have pressed charges and she would be hammering rocks for 5 years in Leavenworth with the rest of the people who make death threats against the President.

Lol, did you turn your brain off too? Posting a picture of the president in the manor she did isn't a political view, its just flat out hatred. Has nothing to do with politics.

I hate the president. Should the secret service come question me?

It was seen as sedition. If I posted a picture of you with me photoshopped in shoving a screwdriver through your head, would you just say "that's your just opinion?" As I stated before, an act like this is not protected under free speech. I find it ironic that the majority of people saying "I have a right to Free Speech!" have no idea how the 1st Amendment works. And that last sentence was to all of America, not you.

To be honest, I would say it's just your opinion. I know there's people who hate me and probably wouldn't mind shoving a screwdriver through my head but I don't go to the police and have them questioned over it.. And I have to say, most of American is stupid..

I dont know what drug youre high on but:

If you would make a picture of someone getting killed and say "kill " then yes, you would be questioned, and you would probably be taken into custody if you were 18 or older.

And sure, people hate me too, but if someone posted on the internet, that theyre gonna kill me, then it shouldnt be taken lightly, and when youre talking about a political figure like the president, then its far more serious.

turn youre brain on

Hope for your sake you didn't send that email, and in that case you better not be over 18.

The CIA was not involved. Only the US Treasury Department and the FBI (Secret Service is part of the Treasury). And what the girl did WAS NOT COVERED BY FREEDOM OF SPEECH!!!

Anytime someone says that in this thread, I lose faith in education. Freedom of Speech is not absolute, even it has limitations that have existed for 230 years. You have a right to hate the President, but you do not have the right to shout "Fire!" in a crowded building. Over the past 143 years, almost 4000 people have been arrested and put in Federal Prison for threatening the President with death. Why don't any of those make the news?

Simple, because this article's sole purpose is to make the Secret Service look bad.

In addition to that: this goes for every country in the world (that isnt a complete anarchy), you cant threaten people of death, if you do so at school, you get expelled, if youre over 18, you go to prison.

Theres no such thing s 100% freedom of speech, every democratic/republic country in the world is only about 40% free. If you let people do whatever you want, then your whole family would be raped and killed in a day. Humanity simply cannot get along without order, this is why true communism will never suceed no matter how hard you try.

I think she got off easy. I mean with no charges and only a warning. If you think making her cry was bad, compare it to what would have happened if someone that was under Stalin's Soviet Union would have done if a similar threat was made. The government would have wiped her and her family off the face of the planet. And you think making her cry was bad? :|

I really don't know how to feel about this

Yes she broke the law.

Yes I don't like the government.

So where to stand? I stand on my beliefs and not on what the government has deemed "appropriate" or "legal"

If you agree with 100% of the laws that are passed, then, well you listen to the government too much i guess.

The whole situation is embarresing.

Actually, the thing that bothers me is the government trolling myspace for IMAGES such as this (not just text).

What I would like to know is the following: how did they track down the girl - using only public information, which is slightly bothersome but understandable? Or did they request IP address info from myspace or something, which would be totally inappropriate, and an invasion of privacy?

Is it just me, or is threatening the life of your president "totally inappropriate"?

In my eyes, if you break laws, you forfeit corresponding rights.

So insane, youre suggesting that you agree with EVERY single law there is?

It does not matter if you agree with a law or not. You are still required to follow it.

Otherwise, you would get a whole lot of "Oh gee, marijauna is illegal! I think that is BS. Let's go smoke some pot."

1.) Not everyone here is American.

2.) You are just a former colony of the British empire, you fought a war for tea, or independence as you call it. Your amendments were drawn up by a bunch of traitors and backstabbers.

3.) Anybody with the slightest hint of a brain would have noticed that the majority of people in this world hate George Bush, many people also want him dead. Just because some dumb femaleteenager was trying to be cool doesn't mean the President was ever going to be in any danger. A leader should be strong and prove he is worthy of his post, cowering a way from a 14 year old girl that might 'assassinate him' is quite hilarious if you think about it.

The majority of people in the world eh. Got any statistics, or are you going by the opinions of your politically uneducated highschool friends?

Lately it's the "cool thing" to hate George Bush, but really, tons of people have no idea what they're talking about.

There's too much of a culture of personality in USA.

"OMG HES THE PRESIDENT EVERY PICTURE ABOUT HIM THAT PORTRAYS HIM IN A NEGATIVE LIGHT WILL BE ARRESTED OMG TOO EXCITED TO MAKE ANY SENSE"

I am sooo getting out of here when I am 18.

At least I live in a Blue state for now.

I used to have a link to my school's project to provide fresh water to a Kenyan Village, but the sig police changed the link to say something, which, if followed, leads to an "ahem" adult website. Let me ask you. Which do you think is worse?

Yep, America fought a war over tea. It wasn't the corruption of the King that sparked the revolution. It wasn't the unfair taxes imposed on colonists that sparked the revolution. It wasn't the mercantilism policy of Britain that sparked the revolution. It wasn't the neglect of the colonies by the King that started the war. And it definitely wasn't the lack of representation for the colonists in the British government.

Nope. We started a war and sacrificed the lives of thousands of men for tea.

Just out of curiosity, where are you from?

I'm with the secret service on this one. It's their JOB to protect the president, no matter how much he is hated by others. Even if it wasn't their job, this girl threatened to take a human LIFE, which is important even without the added presidential status.

Look, I know it's unlikely for a 14 year old girl to attempt a killing of Bush, but it was just a check...a 15 minute questioning. Apparently, you can go to jail for these kind of threats, so they let her off easy.

Guys: Imagine this was someone close to you being threatened. No matter how unlikely their death at the hands of the threatener (yeah, I think i made this word up just now) is, wouldn't you atleast want to check into it?

Seriously...a FIFTEEN minute questioning. You HAVE to be intimidating to bring out the truth, and thats probably why they acted all scary.

its doesn't matter if the world hates him. as long as he gets the majority of the votes in america he's president. we can easily just vote for someone else but just because people dont like him doesn't mean that they can make pictures of him with a knife stuck in his hand

Yes, I made an assumption that you couldn't back up your statement that the majority of the world hates George W. Since you didn't provide the statistic in your reply, I'm guessing you don't have one, and cannot prove your assumption.

Sure, I can't prove mine, but at least you didn't make my assumption look incorrect.

I know first-hand that the government is too damned paranoid.

I once had two FBI agents show up at my house because someone said I threw a "Works Bomb" (works toilet bowl cleaner+ tin-foil...No damage can be done by them, fyi) near some Propane tanks downtown. I didn't do it, but someone SAID I did, so I was questioned about it. I wasn't even in town at the time, so I obviously wasn't charged with anything...

Apparently, the kids who said that I did it were the ones who actually did it, and the FBI was called in because they thought someone was using a REAL bomb trying to blow those tanks up. The tanks are huge and could probably level this town, so. :P

Also, the same kids burned down the old Creamery here in town and tried to blame it on me, but I wasn't even in the state. 1,500 miles away, infact. :P Since it was government property (it was made a monument type thing because the Indian Cheif "Good Thunder" was killed there) the FBI called my parents and asked if they had any knowledge of me being at the place the night before, to which my parents screamed into the phone "Can't you leave our child alone? He isn't even in this STATE and you paranoid ****'s keep blaming [cabbage] on him!" and they basically said they'd keep in touch and hung up, lol. I heard through the grape wine that it was those kids who did it, and I asked them about it and they admitted it, but said it was an accident due to a cigarette...I, of course, narked them off to the police, but nothing was done to them.

To this day, those kids never got in trouble for any of it, and I have a massive complex about getting into trouble...I won't do ANYTHING considered "bad" because I'm terrified that the FBI will come knocking on my door, lol. For about a year I neer even left my house unless it was for a doctor's appointment or something. It sucks because I'm a pretty good person, but getting blamed for stuff so serious can mess someone up.

The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past.

I love her reaction when she found out

When 14-year-old Julia Wilson, left, found out that the Secret Service wanted to question her, she text messaged her mom Kirstie Wilson, "Are you serious!?!? omg. Am I in a lot of trouble?"

Gave me a giggle. As far as I can tell, she got out of school and missed some classes, who doesnt want that? It seems AOL got a bit to carried away about this story. The way I see it,They came to her school, questioned her with force, let her be on her way.

1) It doesn't matter if you're American. I'm speaking directly about the people who made statements about the First Amendment. If you make statements about the First Amendment you should be responsible enough to know how it works.

2) You are an ignorant fool.

3) Disagreeing with someone politically usually doesn't mean they want him dead. Either way, the girl broke the law. You provide know argument against my statement - you just gave a bunch of irrelevant statements. She broke the law and the government did what it should. Period.
