November 7, 200619 yr IE7 vs. Firefox 2! Who will win? Which one is better? I like Firefox. It's just so easy to use, and it has so many useful features. I just downloaded Firefox 2 and it's amazing. It has spell checker, useful tabs, and a lot of other cool stuff. But one of my favorite things is that when you accidentally close your browser or there's an error, Firefox reloads it so you don't lose your information. Anyways, I really am digging Firefox 2. I do appreciate the increased security against phishing. I also love the visual refresh with new icons and built in X on the tabs. When you use a web browser for as much time as I do, the little things do add up. Go to Google and search Firefox vs. IE7 and you'll come up with some interesting links. November 7, 200619 yr The spell check is ok, but not very good quality. It can get annoying as well with slang. Me doing staff.
November 7, 200619 yr Opera has had those things ages ago, that's why I still use it. So the war will be won by Opera and IE will be held as hostage just for being so crappy.
November 7, 200619 yr Author Opera has had those things ages ago, that's why I still use it. So the war will be won by Opera and IE will be held as hostage just for being so crappy. Why isn't Opera widely used? I have nothing against Opera I just want to know. Viktor, I'm sure there's a way you can turn it off. Say no to leet speak. You can also add words to your dictionary so yeah. Trix.--quit WoW as of 12/07Thank you 4be2jue for the wonderful sig and avatar!
November 7, 200619 yr I compared google results just as a curiosity, Opera web browser has about 50% of the results Firefox web browser has. It's not widely used simply because fewer people know about it. On website statistics, I often see the users of Opera is about 2% of the traffic. Firefox may be better today than around the time of it's initial release, but when I first tried it years ago and did use it for many months, it wasn't really that good. Opera was a million times better in terms of usability, speed and the fact that if your browser closes down, you can continue from where you left. You can also change pages "forward and back" just by holding down the mouse button and clicking left/right, and the browser caches the site instead of always reloading it (pain in the butt especially if you use a slowly loading forum)

November 7, 200619 yr I'd still use Firefox 1 over IE7... :-k The Enrichment Center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak. In the event that the weighted companion cube does speak, the Enrichment Center urges you to disregard its advice.
November 7, 200619 yr I don't like using Opera purely because of the ads it had on it. I have no idea what you mean by that, I've never had any ads or banners on the browser. I must admit I cracked serial keys for lots of programs and deeply apologise if there is some registry for Opera that removes ads which I can't honestly remember. As far as I know, the latest version should have no ads whatsoever.

November 7, 200619 yr Author Belongs in the Tech & Comp. forum.[/quote  I have no problems at the moment with Firefox so I do not see the point of switching to Opera. Trix.--quit WoW as of 12/07Thank you 4be2jue for the wonderful sig and avatar!

No, I have recently switched to FF from Opera (sorry, way more features) and as of 1-2 weeks ago, there were no ads popping up. November 7, 200619 yr For me it is: FF > Opera > IE This is mainly due to their interfaces. I just thing firefox's interface is so much simpler than either of the others. Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.
November 7, 200619 yr Of course everybody is going to say Firefox... There's more M$ haters here than at a linux convention. #-o IE7 > FF2 > FF1. =D> Notoriously Trollish.
November 7, 200619 yr Author Of course everybody is going to say Firefox... There's more M$ haters here than at a linux convention. #-o IE7 > FF2 > FF1. =D> ? Can you explain why you think Internet Explorer is better than ff2? Trix.--quit WoW as of 12/07Thank you 4be2jue for the wonderful sig and avatar!
November 7, 200619 yr Of course everybody is going to say Firefox... There's more M$ haters here than at a linux convention. #-o IE7 > FF2 > FF1. =D> Then why do the majority of the people here use Windows? I don't think it's 'MS hating' as it is just pure superiority. :boohoo:
November 8, 200619 yr Opera has had all of these features for years now. It never became popular however because the first versions contained advertisements, these are now gone. Firefox also had the huge spread firefox campain. One large probem with Opera right now is that some plugins like shockwave dont work in it so you still need other browsers. I use IE7 to update my computer. O9 to view most web pages. FF2 to view anything that does not work with Opera.
November 8, 200619 yr I'm still using FF1.5 at home and IE6 at work :-w IE7's default skin is so ugly lol. I've used it at work and I hate using it. There would want to be some sweet skins to fix up it's ugliness before I upgrade! FF1.5 is my browser of choice at the moment. Will get FF2.0 soon though I suppose!
November 11, 200619 yr Hah, I was checking out stuff on http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/browserSpeed.html#winspeed Actually, Opera is the fastest browser out there. 8-) And while FireFox has greater functionality than IE, it's slower.

Notice the people who make comments such as this usualy have an avatar displaying this. The viewpoints from people like this are heavily biased and should not be trusted. My unbiased view is FAR superior to that of any Firefox fanatic's.
November 11, 200619 yr My unbiased view is FAR superior to that of any Firefox fanatic's. And you have an Opera icon as your avatar. What's the [bleep]ing point. Let's put it this way: You're going to trust sources in which I don't know every aspect of the environment in which these benchmarks are tested on, as well as not knowing the sources are biased. Opera vs Firefox shouldn't be about the difference in milliseconds between the startup time. Hell, on my computer Firefox beats Opera. Opera: user 0m0.576s sys 0m0.131s Firefox: user 0m0.018s sys 0m0.009s But in the end, do I really care? No. I've also taken several 'rendering' tests, showing that Opera was slightly faster to render than Firefox. There are several reasons for this, including the delay that Firefox takes to start rendering the page, for slower users. But in the end, do I really care? No. I use, and advocate the use of Firefox over Opera. Because, Firefox is open source. I've recently had a quirk with Mozilla vs Community development crap, and not allowing redistribution of custom builds of Firefox under Mozilla image/name branding. Though Firefox isn't my favorite browser, it's a hell of a lot better to me than a closed-source browser with support for one architecture. In all honestly, most of the Opera > Firefox debate is based on speed, which at the low times both Firefox and Opera run at, is irrelevant.
