k0ol
did u ever wonder why runescape is only java and not supported by a powerful engine like microsoft or sony that would trully make it better, provide better graphics and hold more updates? just wondering, unless im mixing the programs up lol :-k Dj Tiesto is Da BestIMG]http://sig.runeweb.net/sig/1/draken16.png[/img]
Kickthat
Um, java is an applet. Meaning this is some kind of runtime software, unless i'm mistaken. Like flash. Microsoft and sony are seperate, major companies. They simple make software and programs.
Kickthat
And this is not a rant... (oops. sorry for the double post.. my edit went kinda wrong :P)
k0ol
im sure jagex is rich enough to buy a more powerful software from microsoft and that would definitly make this game high-tech. i think its about time jagex did something with the engine that supports runescape, because more players join and more lagg is created. members want more updates and jagex doesnt have the space to give em those updates. k0ol
it can be a rant, because im saying jagex should get a btter software to support the game rather than java. ive never ehard of java in my life until i started playing this game, so it must be a piece of shet. no offence but i dunt think many people have heard of java if they hhave not played this game. Kickthat
OK, if you are ranting about lag... Lag is not due to the engine that jagex uses. Their software is fine. If you are experiencing lag, it is because your computer cannot handle it. Nothing to do with the engine behind rs itself. And yes, jagex can make updates, they have recently bought out a number of new quests, and are bringing out a new skill at the end of this month. k0ol
ure missing the point....im not experiencing lag that much, but i just think that java is old, as old as since rsc came out and i think there are superior programs that could improve rs. who cares if they bring out quest or skills, that means its got space to add stuff to, but not make gameplay better Dj Tiesto is Da BestIMG]http://sig.runeweb.net/sig/1/draken16.png[/img]
Kickthat
What do you think needs improving about the gameplay. Besides.. i think you'll find that it would take an incredible amout of work and indeed would probably result in taking RS offline for quite a while in order to switch it to another programme.. and it just doesn't need doing. brave
When will you and people like you realise that RS will NEVER be anything other than Java applet. The reason is that by using Java the game can be played without having to download a mega-byte client (eliminating your internet connection speed) and can be played on any PC, no matter how old. In fact Jagex's success is the use of Java.
Giordano
Well, if they gave it to Sony/Microsoft, the Jagex team wouldn't be able to make it what they want. Andrew knows how to use Runescript, not fancy-sony stuff. "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is." Zephyr_Fal
*Sigh* It just wouldn't be the same... Sure, Java isn't as high-tech as it could be gaming-wise... But does that really matter? RuneScape is quite successful in the MMORPG world anyway, bringing out new updates every -week-, drawing in thousands of new players... =ZF
Jake_Corsair
Personally, I like that it's Java. If you were to convert it to something else, then it would be just like any other game. The fact that it's, the single most elaborate Java game I'ver ever seen/played impresses me more than it becoming just like WoW or Everquest. Plus, add to that, they'd probably have to raise the members fee, and I'm a cheap old man  If Jagex ever made a perfect update, there would be players complaining about nothing to complain about.[hide=My Stats][/hide]
Freesia
Runescape is made to cater to all players around the world. Low detail is made for people with lousier/older computers. The option of toggling mouse buttons allows players with 1 click to be able to play runescape and all the pictures cater to players that are unable to read english unlike much of us here in tip.it Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(. He has no clue what he is talking about, understandable after seeing the rest of the kid's posts. I wouldn't hand any game to microsoft or sony, IMO. Stallion4589
this really isnt a rant. its more of a discussion. i think that the runescape applet is fine the way it is. if it were sold to microsoft or sony, or god forbid, ea, or if jagex bought software from any of those companies, then the game wouldnt be what we have grown up with for all these years. ah, the memories... Sharper
I think Jagex still want to keep the "Play anywhere, anytime" feel about Runescape. The Java applet scenario supports this nicely. I think they are doing OK at the moment. Can't be that many more years until they work on Runescape 3 or a brand new game :)

I think they are doing OK at the moment. That's exactly why it's coded in Java. It can be played anywhere, on any platform, any time. That's the way Gower has wanted it run from day 1 and that's the way he's said it will stay. When you think about it, they're closing in on 1 million members. That's at least $5 million a month, not including ad revenue and whatever else they have going. Not bad for a game that started out as a college project.
