issy2
And now, death and destruction is being turned into entertainment?! O please, be a little less naief, please! It's like this for over 3000 (!) years now! Who says it has to be that way? I'm no pacifist, but unnecessary violence annoys me. Understandably. I think he was trying to point out how you made it sound like violence being a part of entertainment is just happening now. Do you [bleep] and whine when a >PG movie comes out too? PG movies don't mimic scenes from recent wars, the effects of which are still being felt. And by the way, I'm not whining, I'm just angry and I think the advert itself was pretty disrespectful. But hey, seeing as no-one else cares, it's probably just me. Why don't you call up Jack Thompson. Thanks, really smart comment. Maybe I will. Tigra00
Yea, good point. Go Intern for Jack Thompson...I'm sure someday his work will catch on! ...Or not. If you'd like to know WHY Jack Thompson's work against video games and fun in gerenal will never work, I'll show you one of my own personal writings: "For those of you who haven't heard of Jack Thompson, he's a Florida lawyer who gets off by picking on kid's video games by calling them "too violent to be sold" and the like. Before even playing them or apparently reading much about them, even, he is already out trying to get them banned. Case in point? The newest game from Rockstar North called "Bully". It's about a kid who thinks he's all tough and bullies kids, however, when he goes to a new school, he finds himself being picked on and decides to retaliate by "fighting back". Now, the game obviously has violence, but that's besides the point...The game also has an "anti-bully" overtone in the story-line. Throughout the story-line, the main character realizes that being a bully is stupid and he'd rather just defend himself using mischevious skills he picked up being a bully all those years. Jack Thompson called it a "Columbine Simulator" before even knowing anything about the game. He based it completely off the name of the game. Fair enough, [wagon]-wipe. I suppose everyone is entitled to jump to conclusions and be a jerk-off in general. Afterall, it's about bullying! Someone could get killed playing this game!...Right? No, wrong, [wagon]. Games do not kill people...[developmentally delayed]s kill people. Well, not literal [developmentally delayed]s...You know what I mean. Stupid people. With guns. And problems. Thankfully, the Florida judge threw the case out after playing it himself, saying quote "It really isn't anymore violent than anything we'll see on TV tonight..." and he's right. Thank you, Mr. Judge. My question is this: When will Jack Thompson realize that he cannot crusade around like a zealot for all that is righteous, pretending he's actually saving anyone from...Anything at all? If anyone remembers a couple years back, McDonald's was taken to court for making people fat. Rediculous, you say? That's what the judge said too...He was smart, he knew people were responsible for their own actions. Jack Thompson and the other anti-fun zealots don't get this. Under Bill Number H.R. 554 of the 109th Congressional Party, also known as the "Hamburger Bill", you can no longer sue fast food corperations for "making you fat". Why? Because it's your own damn responsibility to not stuff your face with greasy food until you die. If you do that, then you can't very well blame McDonald's for selling it to you. You had the choice, you made it. Live with it. So, my question is...When are we going to have the "Bully Bill" that says you can no longer sue game companies for making games that people say lead them to go on a shooting rampage? It's the same thing. People make these choices themselves and noone can convince me that playing Grand Theft Auto too much is going to make me blow a cops face off with a Desert Eagle. I've played the ENTIRE Grand Theft Auto series since I was about 12 years old and I've never once even considered it. So when is Congress going to pass the bill that protects game companies freedoms? Apparently, it is perfectly acceptable for people to kill themselves (via food), but killing others (via any means) is not right...Personally, I see no difference." Hate the man with a passion. assassin_696
what was she saying then when I quoted her? :? I'm not saying it's going to cause World War III or anything, or that violent games such as Duty Call 3 will encourage violence, but for this advert to be so gruesome and disrespectful, and, even worse, shown on Rememberance Day? Meh... You think they'd make an effort to try and rearrange the schedule for adverts today so that ones like this didn't come up. It wouldn't be that hard. Today is a day of rememberance and respect, and although it's probably not a big deal in the big scheme of things, it should probably have been avoided. It has been way worse before, so please don't wine. 2. Every second there are people dieing, and you're complaining about a computer game?? This particular game mimics violence. In it, you kill people. It's officially based on a WWII campaign. Not particularly respectful. And as for those people who die every second - too bad. It's life. We can do without promoting destruction via children's entertainment. You just now realized there are games based off of wars? I agree with Tigra00. Anyways, if you dislike violent video games, guess what you can do? not play them.

Nadril
Just adding in a bit, but the Call of Duty serries (from what I have always seen) is generaly a fairly "realistic" game in terms that it doesn't glorify the war. It shows it for what it was, a lot of death. I don't see how seeing a bunch of people screaming and dying is going to make you think "sweet, I wanna kill people now!". Right, can we get back on topic now... no flaming... but we all know what the Off-Topic boards are like... Nice title change. First of all you don't give a damn about "Remerberance Day". You even said it yourself. You just thought it would look good to add it with your little rant. And then you act like you care even though you said you don't. Go get banned. Same here. I've heard numerous people complain that violent video games cause our youth to become violent. I've played a lot of violent video games and I don't go around punching, stabbing, or shooting random people. Yeah, I can be violent but you have to do something to me first. I remember when 'Manhunt' was banned in numerous countries. I own the game and I had fun playing it but it didn't make me shoot someone with a nail gun, suffocate them with a plasic bag, or stab with with a shard of glass. I really think our society needs to lighten up on video games. The only way a video game is going to make you kill someone is if you're mentally unstable, but then you shouldn't have access to those if it's known that you're mentally unstable... *end mindless rambling* Internet Marketing For Newbies

My parents have never been the type to shelter me from the real world. When I was young I had access to violent video games. Hell, if I was sneaky enough I could have found 'adult products' in the basement (that were to be sold via my parents business). But as Anesthesia said, it's the parents job to stop their children from seeing things that could negatively affect them. Lordjake
I don't see why violent WWII video games are somehow insulting the lives of those who fought during the actual war. Yes the game is violent and yes characters will die in it. However, I think these games made about past wars comemmorate the lives of the soldiers of WWII. It shows what the soldiers actually had to go through in war, and what they did and died for in order to protect their homeland. It may or may not glorify war, that's up to someone's opinion. However, it does glorify the actions of the men and women who fought in the wars.
