Cinema Dilemna

Yesterday me and two friends went to the cinema. We are onl 14 but we thought we would try to get into Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Khazahkstan (sp?.)

We hopefully went up to the counter and successfully purchased tickets. We then went out o the cinema to do some shopping before the film started. As the start of the film approached, we bught about ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâã10 worth of refrehsments and waited for them to let us in while the cleaned the sceen.

Then as we went and showed the lady our tickets she asked us for I.D. Obviously we didn't have any so we weren't allowed to see the film. No biggie, we got a refund and watched Casino Royale instead.

The service given to us did raise questions inside my head, though. If we were allowed to get tickets to see a film then why should they be allowed to stop us at a later date?

If Casino Royale had been sold out we would have been left with popcorn and drinks looking like idiots. Or we might have had to endure an hour of Disney *shudders*.

Don't get me wrong, I know they are ony doing their job and I appeciate that. But I think the people letting us in should just be checking for tickts, it should be the responsibility of the ticket sellers to check our ages.

What are your opinions?

That happened to me with Saw III. I went to see Departure instead (it's rated R too!). They check IDs for the new movies here. I'll just rent it when it comes out on video.

Fortunately, we asked if we could get in at our age. They said no so we went to see another movie where they didn't check our ID.

My point is that it is unfair to let people buy tickets and expensive refreshments only to refuse them entry. I find it strange because it could cost someone a fair bit of money if they can't get into another film. :?

Yea, I had the same thing a couple of years ago. It was in Belgium and I wanted to see Hannibal. I was only fifteen years old, my mate was sixteen years old, and we had our parents with us. But the movie was for 18+, so we couldn't get in. While they already gave us tickets, they stopped us at the hall itself. I had to see Vertical Limit instead. >.>

they check for ID at all your cinemas? cor...my 12 year old sister and her same aged friend got into a 15 fine the other week when me and my mate (both 15) saw borat

where are your cinemas? this was at the VUE in York and we've never had a problem of age-checking there before. ive been getting into 15's and 12's for years without any id or parents...

I got checked at the ticket vendor when I went to see Borat  . I'm 20, but I guess to her I looked under 17 :P .

I'm the same way. Except some people think I'm 25. Most think I'm 17 though.

That's odd, most theatres check I.D.'s at the ticket booth.

I don't have to worry, since I use my University ID to get a discount in the first place, so my age is pretty established.

Yeah, a few years ago I went to see an "R" rated movie. Me and my buddy got the tickets. Then the guy stopped us, and said "Can I see your I.D.?" So we responded "Our parents will be here in a bit." So, he let us in, but right before the movie started he pulled us out.

Then I had my buddy call his parents and make his parents tell the employee that she was going to be *very* late 8-) . Of course, he didn't subdue to it. Oh well.. I went home and saw it the next day when a more lenient employee was working the doors.

The only time that would be bad was if they didnt let you into a different film or give a refund. Good practice by the ticket collector not to let you into the film. You are too young to see that film.

Gratz to you for not reading carefully enough.

I said I wasn't angry or upset that we didn't get in to see the film, heck I half expected to get turned down. I was annoyed because it would be have been quite possible for Bond to have been sold out.

If it had been then we would have been stuck inside the cinema for at least an hour with our stuff until my Dad could pick us up. They should check I.D when selling tickets not at the entrance to the screen IMO.

Borat is a brilliant movie and probably one of my favourite comedies, but even so if I had a 14 year old child I'd think twice before letting him/her watch it with me. It is funny, but it is very offending, and you probably wouldn't appreciate all the finer parts of the movie and discard it as 'weird' if you don't know what he's making fun of.

Anyways, when they check the tickets, they should be fair. If you're 14 and didn't get into Borat, it's probably because you look very young. They don't want to annoy you, they want to shield their company from angry parents who hear their child watched "Borat" in their movie theatre.

Many underage kids in my town just put on a leather jacket so they can watch Blade or The Grudge just because it makes them look older than a wind jacket. Strangely, they are let in and other kids older than them have their movie ticket bite the dust and are told to get a refund.

Or.. Just wait until you're 18, have your ID ready and don't worry about silly restrictions 8-)

My mom said she didn't want to watch it because it is an insult to Kazakhstan. I'm like....it's a movie, mum. I can understand that

I guess it has a lot to do with where you are cause my theater checked both at the ticket counter and when I went into the theater.

You have no reason to be annoyed. You were expecting to be rejected, and it was your fault for even trying without a solid backup plan (if Bond was sold out)

Hell yeah! He should've bought tickets for two simultaneous movies.

Infact, everybody should. Who knows when sessions will be sold out?

Rofl, too bad for you. We can buy tix to Open Season and instead of going to Theater 3, go to Theater 8 . Plus, if the movie you want to see is a right after you buy your tix, but you buy your tickets for a movie on the left side of the ticket spot, then it makes a circle, so you start heading for your "theater" and keep walking till you walk in a circle to the movie you really want to see, just so people don't get suspicious

I havn't had any troubles with theaters, when I was under 17 I would just buy a ticket to lets say a rated pg-13 and just sneek into the R movie.

But movie rental stores on the other hand... grrr.

I went to a movie rental store to rent saw 2 and when I went to the counter they asked for my id, no biggy I've only been 17 for a couple of months its understandable. But then they told me I couldn't rent it, wtf! So after argueing with them for awhile I went to walmart and freaking bought it.

wow...

It was probably laziness of the cashier. That or he thought you guys looked 17. Either way, employees doing theater checks should recheck even after people walk in. One because people can buy tickets to one movie and walk in to another, and two, even if you have tickets for that movie, it's possible people like you had a friend/parent buy them for them and leave them.

I did consider sneaking into Borat after we got tickets for Bond, but I thought it wasn't worth the hassle/risk.

Thanks for all your comments, it has been interesting listening to what everyone had to say.

Last time I was asked for ID when I went to the cinema I was asked for it when I was buying the tickets.

In the summer I went with a big group to see Miami Vice, a few of the guys looked pretty young, and although we got in the guy checking the tickets was pretty funny about it, he couldn't believe that all of us were 15, but he was cool and wouldn't refuse to let us in because we'd already bought them.
