Yes, it would be nice if less than 90% of Runescape was populated with people who aren't under 13 and speak AOL or 1337.

But it ain't gonna happen.

For anyone who says that it saves time to type in abbreviations, you all need to actually type something that someone needs to read for a grade or a job performance review, or something similar (something that matters). Once you get used to proper typing, you can type correct words and grammer faster than you can use all those abbreviations. For me, typing is like automatic, I dont look at the keyboard or anything, and a lot of it is my hands doing the thinking.

NOTE: If there's anything grammatically wrong with this post, its 4:38am. So shut up, I'm going to bed.

i think abbreviations in runescape are necessary. in a forum like this where i have all the time in the world to type, i write out the full word, and sometimes even use (gasp!) apostrophes :roll:

inside runescape, though, you have to type what you want to get across as fast as you can, or someone else will say something totally different and what you were about to say becomes a non-sequitor. hence, in-game i usually end up tlking like tihs cuz i dont hav tim 2 chek spling and stuf. with apologies to those who dont speak english quite as well, i think most people can understand what im saying, and thats really all i need, right?

@??? We're abbreviating 2 letter words now?

what kind of discussion is this lmao.... ppl are free to use w/e the heck they want to.

I'm with you, buddy. :) Grammar and spelling is most of the time just a pet hate of wannabe-elitists who need someone to put down :roll: which can't even be justified, though they try... "WAT DOSE IT MEN WEN DEY SPK LIK DIS?"

Just like some people hate abbreviations on internet chat, I hate grammarnazi cliques on discussion boards. :P

You know you want to flame me! :shock:

Abbreviations do get kind of dumb after awhile, but they are kind of necessary. BTW: (by the way, thats an abbreviation, lol) KBD means King Black Dragon and this is already listed on tip.it 's main page.

Okay. We already know it. Some abbreviations are just plain stupid. Saying "hatchet" instead of "axe" is dumb. "Sara"... Well, nobody is going to know what you mean when saying "SELLING SARA PL8".

But are we really too lazy to write down simple words?

Also, another problem we have is frequent typos.

"IM ON P2P TEam Thsi Is a Battle

No sticks and stones though

This shud B A Prrofensionalish Debate LOL!

Umm yeah....

I just read A P2P Dissing all these F2p forever People And I agree that F2P forevre is a stupid idea unless u only wnana play for a month!"

(That was not meant to offend the person who wrote it. Don't hurt me.)

...I rest my case.

Anyways, I think I'm going to list all of the abbreviations/nicknames I know and have you guys rate on whether it's good or not.

Axe = Hatchet

Adamantite = Addy

Saradomin = Sara

Platebody = Plate/Pl8

Mithril = Mith

Pot = Potion

Two hander = 2H

Pickaxe = Pick

Gold = Gp

Runite = Rune

Please = Plz

Thank you = Ty

000 (thousand) = K *IN EXAMPLE = 1K*

Scimmy = Scimitar

Long = Longsword

Short = Shortsword

Level = Lvl

Wilderness = Wildy

Player Kill = PK

Continue the discussion.

Yes, they bloody well have gone too far. A few hours after the new halbreds came out, everyone was like "hallys!"

It seems there's an abbreviation for everything on runescape, and its getting annoying.

I would have to agree with the poster. I really dislike it. Some are okay for really long words. But when you start abbreviating words by knocking of one or two letters it makes you look like an idiot. I mean how long does it take to add two more letters; seriously. (Pl8= Plate) It's just two letters people! It's really not going to take that much out of your playing time!

Let's see how much time it would really take.

(Now I know not everyone types at the same speed so that's why the time is low.)

Time it takes to type "Plate": 5 seconds

Time is takes to type "Pl8": 3 seconds

Now let's say you type that maybe 5 times a day. With the abbreviation it knocks off 2 seconds. So if you play Runescape everyday for a year and say "Pl8" 5 times a day you would be saving 60.8 minutes every year! Wow! With that time you could eat 2 more meals every year! (Not that American people really need to eat anymore.) (Yes I am American. :wink: )

There are 8765.813 hours in a year! Wow subtract an hour from that and you have 8764.813 left! Wow does it really make that big of a difference?

Come on people let's cut down on the abbreviations and maybe people will think you actually have a IQ that tops a 7 year old.[/b]

5 seconds too type plate...

seriously it takes just as long due to u having to reach further over the keyboard

they were made to say some stuff easier... Example: u want to buy a addamantine platebody. But saying : Please I want to buy a addamantine platebody. : is too long, thats why people invited : plz i wanna buy a addy pl8. in this example u will have to write the sentence many times, so it would be over stupid to write the long version. People invented it for them to be easier and better, but u think that someone now will say that it is bad...

And about the hatchet. The "axe" was called like this so, because they needed a none-combat "axe", other than the battle axe, so they called it a hatchet.

Lol. Well, in my language that word is really a word. An untill a year ago I thought it was an English word too :lol: . Anyway, a lot of people posting here with grams on their side, aren't typing correctly either.

I'm a foreigner, and even I know that "I" is spelled with a capital! If I find anything annoying it would have been people who are complaining about bad grammer, punctuation, abbrevations and can not type the most important word on the world correctly!

And in my language, the abbrevations are different. We spell them like it comes out of your mouth. So it would be: "Jes, noh, nhoop" and so on. It's quite fascinating how different languages can even in "abbrevation rules" so different.

To the people who do not like to put time in their posts at all: Imagine how it would be like if the whole forum would be spammed full by your weird language. You wouldn't like it, I wouldn't like it, nobody would like it and the forums would die out.

Plus you don't think people think it. But people really think you're an idiot if you talk leet. :wink:
