December 14, 200619 yr BOSTON -- The month-long odyssey of wooing Daisuke Matsuzaka finally complete, the Red Sox will unveil the Japanese right-hander at 5 p.m. ET on Thursday in what should be one of the most crowded press conferences in team history. It will be a joyous event for the Red Sox, who will formally announce that they have signed the Most Valuable Player of last March's World Baseball Classic to a six-year contract. Though terms of the deal were not disclosed, multiple reports have stated it is worth $52 million, with escalator clauses that could bring it to $60 million. The Red Sox won exclusive negotiating rights to Matsuzaka when their blind -- and record-setting -- bid of $51.1 million was accepted by the Seibu Lions on Nov. 14. ...rest of article $52m! plus $51.1m for the negotiation rights, thats $103.1m... for ONE FRICKIN PLAYER!!!! :ohnoes: Go Sox!!!

December 14, 200619 yr I love baseball even more now! I'm glad to see that so much money can be wasted on just one person for a sport. December 15, 200619 yr The Sox are turning into.... the Yankees :-X Yes, and why are the yankees not good anymore? They dont take young talent, and rely on superstars, who like A-Rod, cant take the pressure of being a yankee and crack under the pressure.
December 15, 200619 yr Hopefully Matsuaka isn't like Josh Beckett, although I still like Beckett. I've heard that Japanese baseball (especially pitching) is different than American baseball, but hopefully that won't affect Matsuzaka. The only downside to this is that it increases the chance of trading Manny. Cenin pân nîd, istan pân nîd, dan nin ú-cenich, nin ú-istach.Ithil luin eria vi menel caran...Tîn dan delu.
December 15, 200619 yr I can say without fear that the Red Sox have one of the best pitching rosters in the whole MLB! Well that's what I believe anyways. Go Sox  You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "(bleep) you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "(bleep) you."
December 15, 200619 yr yeah, sox wasted that \ yankees>sox : And the Yanks didn't waste money on A-Rod and Johnson? The only good starters the Yanks have are Wang and Mussina. And neither of them really made big news when they signed their contract. Anyways, I'm looking forward to a Matsuzaka vs. Wang match-up. Battle of the Asians. o.O (Compared to A-Rod, Matsuzaka wasn't much. He was signed to six years. That's about 16-17 million a year, less than Randy Johnson.) December 15, 200619 yr :P WOOT! I'm so pumped for this next season. Our starting rotation is AWESOME. 1 - Schill 2 - Dice-K 3 - Wake 4 - Beckett 5 - Paps :P Some order like that. You have pure dominance, pure dominance (i hope!), Knuckler, Splitfinger, and just plain "Wild Thing" :D. We are going to be good. First place, here we come? What a sweet picture. I smell blood! Theo Esptein is teh h0t y0ung j3wish GeeEmm!

Don't foget about D-Mat's supposed "gyroball" that is unhittable by right handed hitters. And I have a bad feeling about moving Papelbon to a starting role. 122 Combat : 99 Hits : 99 Attack : 99 Strength97/99 Defence : 99 Fletching : 99 Woodcutting

Gyroball or not, he has to be good. Anyone (other than A-Rod) paid over $15M a year has to be good...Hopefully... And I would leave Papelbon as the closer, and just pick up a relatively cheap starter that has decent stats. December 15, 200619 yr Woot!!! Got a closer today! Paps is in the Starting Rotation, unless we get Clemens. Brandon Donnelly is our new closer! :P And, Yes, he is Johnny Damon's old number. Makes you want to throw up huh? Found a site about a month ago about the Gyroball. It was a great site, I'll try to find it. Dice-K is a STUD. That's him throwing the Gyroball back in Japan I can describe it from the site: It starts out towards the right hand batters box. It then curves right over the plate. Dice-K is going to bring Strikeouts to the club. =] FOUND IT! http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/baseball/ ... all18.html Click that Picture on the right. It's a PDF. Now on 1st and 10, they are giving him a nickname. I like Dice-K They are saying Dice Man. :P

And about Donnelly, that is a good person to get to fill the closer spot, but I still think they are gonna regret moving Papelbon to the rotation. 122 Combat : 99 Hits : 99 Attack : 99 Strength97/99 Defence : 99 Fletching : 99 Woodcutting
December 16, 200619 yr If youre relying on Brendan Donnelly as your closer, you better hope the MLB institutes a new rule that all games end in 8 innings. Seriously Donnelly cannot and should NEVER be considered a closer. The Sox have 4 starters. Papelbon is NOT a starter. They should plug him back into the closers role. Dont be surprised if Francona does that somewhere in the first 2-3 weeks in a season. Also dont forget Japanese pitchers have longer days inbetween starts. An average MLB pitcher goes on 4 days of rest until the next start. In japan they go FIVE days between starts (Six man rotations afaik). Don't be surprise if he burns out towards September when they most need him. Overall i do not like the fact that theyre blowing 103 million on someone whos NEVER pitched in the Major Leagues, who's never pitched against MLB hitters, who's never really used to cross country travel (Japan isnt that small i know, but its nothing compared to switching time zones and everything). It's too risky to spend that much on someone whos NOT been proven yet. Japanese stats mean nothing. Japanese players are NOTHING compared to MLB stars. It's a risky move by the Sox, and if Dice-Kay is a total failure, Red Sox Nation, don't come crying to me, because i will say i told you so.
December 16, 200619 yr Don't get mad at Baseball. NFL? - Mike Vick, If I'm clear, received 200m for 10 or something like that years. Pretty nuts if ya ask me. :P
December 16, 200619 yr Yeah and i disagreed with that move. In essence i think sport contracts should be no longer than 4 years and 75 million dollars in value (Including incentives and bonuses etc). Then that player should become a Free Agent and if the team wants they can tender a new contract to him. That's me though, i dont like the absurd spending of contracts for people who are complete crap.
December 16, 200619 yr Hey, Insane. Vernon Wells signed by Toronto - 7 Years, 126 Million Dollars  Largest contract ever given in Toronto. Anyway, 3/5 AL East teams now have gotten Japanese Players :-k Red Sox - 2 Players, 2 Pitchers Yankees - 1 Player, A Pitcher Devil Rays - 1 Player, A 3rd Baseman (3 years, 7.7million I think) Go figure :-k
December 16, 200619 yr The mets really need pitching. Is Zito the answer? I like Dice-K, he looks like an stud, and I have him at no less than 15 wins this season. The only truely bad thing about the signing is that now the Sox don't have an excuse for losing the the evil empire. The Sox showed that they are no longer the "Oh, the Yankees have to much money! We can't outbid them on anything" kind of team. So, the Sox have great pitching, which I wouldn't know much about, I'm an O's fan...I really miss Cal... The GES, the only clan ruled by a Goat. "How did it start? I mean, did one kid just yell out lets have sex!""
