Eat that scammers!

I met a lvl 70 scammer, who did the 180k > 18004 switch scam, he wanted to buy full rune. I was hanging around, and I realised that something fishy was happening, cuz he kept switching places and buying full rune at 180k when there's a guy at the centre selling at 175k.

So I bought one set to test him out. =P And I saw that he did the switch.. =P So i came back around with a noted iron full.. and spam trade him (i didnt say anything about selling full rune).. oh well, i was selling iron full and he offered 18k for it.

Score 2 for hsifreta, 0 for scammers

I did a similar thing before, when someone was selling rune axe for 10k, he switched to addy axe, and i switched to 1k. =P He accepted quickly, so I did too. =)

Let them taste some of their own medicine!

I also add them to my list of ppl to stalk when I feel righteous =P I just follow them and do colored text saying "[name] is a scammer, he does the [type] scam, don't trade him" till he leaves the world. =P

Your becoming what you hate <.<

Talk about being a hypocryt?

I think it's completely justified in that situation. =D>

You never paid attention to my sig. ;) =P all forgiven =)

I spent the whole day on my main today.. just got at a lvl 82 scammer. =P muahahaha!

Score 3 for hsifreta, 0 for scammers

This wasn't actually a scam, but read along, you'll see what happens. =P

I bought 100 str pot (3) at 50k, and decided to change banks and sell for 70k. A lvl 82 member scammer came up to me, and offer 1000k, 200 lobbies and green d top to me, then i accepted (knowing that i'll get 10,004 instead, and did quick maths and decided it was a good deal after all), then he added 5 tuna and changed the cash etc.

And we traded =P He's gonna enjoy finding out that he didnt really buy str pot (4) as he thought he bought, otherwise he wouldnt have offered those things for it. =P

I think i retailed his things and got around 50k out of it =)

So I didn't get scammed, and the scammer goes home disappointed. =O

Wooters!

PS. Instead of ignoring scammers, I think getting them back for it is a lot more fun! =P It's time they taste the pain that they cause other ppl. On top of which, we get to report. =) And hopefully, its a double sting!

PPS. Btw, not so much for hypocracy, as I just adjust my side to fit what he offers, and don't mislead by saying "sell rune full" etc crap, and I don't do this to people who don't scam. I think that's fully justified. =P

Other updates.. I got a nice deal on a black gild skirt, and i realise that's exactly what I needed for my outfit. I'm going to add my main onto my avatar as well later on when I have time. Black (g) skirt, black chain and black hat looks good, but I think it'll look better if I changed my skin colour to a lighter colour =)

Cool. Thanks in advance. I'm playing my main for a bit for now. =)

Make sure you read the rules for item scamming, and make sure you don't do any of those, otherwise the scammers can report you and get you in trouble.

I think the main trick here is to cancel trade, and say "sorry, wrong button, pls trade again, i'll accept it" and say "tyvm" at the end of the trade, and make it so that he offered a good price for what you intend to sell for cheaper.

So no misleading words saying "selling rune full" when ur selling iron full back to the scammer. Just click trade, and accept and be gone. =) If you don't talk, they can't find you in the busy west bank in Varrock world 3. =P

Like they say, the best hacker is the systems admin, as he knows how to get into his own system, and he counters it with measures to keep his system safe. The best scammer, should be one who watches what scammers do, and understand the key essentials about it, and counter it with what is necessary.

A key point to notice is that.. a scammer gets really excited and tries to accept trade very quickly when he thinks he's successfully scammed you! So what you need to do is make him think he's scammed you, and follow his lead and accept trade.

How not to get in trouble for it all? I'd avoid the rune > iron swap, once or twice when you're lucky is fine, but try to avoid similar tricks that scammers use. Instead of switching to something not worth switching to, you should switch to something say mith or addy, to justify that's what you think the price he offers really pays for. So you don't get in trouble to scamming [see overpriced selling scams in Rule 2].

The rest of it, is to play it by ear. You're pretty much on your own with scammers, and you need to play smart to prevent them from reporting you, they have to make a bad move first, and you need to act smart. Usually a scammer runs for it as soon as he's "got" you, so you just need to stick around and maybe walk into another crowd, and watch him jump off the world with your "goodies".

I must stress how important it is that you know the rules, and follow the rules as closely as possible and not give space for them to report you. Otherwise, you'll be vulnerable for reporting and banning. So safety first, everything else after.

good luck, you can do it! as a fellow GES'er i know you can!...

and is its pure skilling and you ever turn to members... theres a trick some have, enchanted sapphire ring is a ring of reciol.. any damage delt to you will be delt back 1 to opponent... that is how pure skillers do quests to get into places that involve killing... pretty clever really, just have couple friends there with food and your set...

anyway good luck and good going

If you read carefully, I didn't scam. I adjusted my end to fit their deal. I'm not going to sell rune full for 18k, but i will in fact be very glad if they offered 18k for my iron full.

That's a big difference. I didnt' say "selling rune full 180k", i answered to a personw [garden tool] was "buying rune full for 180k", and likewise when you adjust the amount of runes you sell for when the money they offer isn't good enough, I adjusted the type of armour i sell, when he took away his 180k and turned it into 18,004.

People like you are the real hypocrites, who do nothing about autoers (not even report them), and do nothing about scammers. I doubt you'll report a scammer who stood next to u if he doesnt' trade you. I go out of my way to trade scammers to provides evidence for reporting.

I've been scammed for over 1m gp, and tehre are plenty of kids who get scammed everyday for over millions, and all that go down the drain when these lvl 3 scammers get banned to be replaced by new ones. And you don't do anything about it.

I may be sitting on gray area when I do this, but at least, I'm taking action against scammers. I don't care about what you think.

I don't just do this. I've been speaking out and teaching as many people how not to rely on begging, and speaking out against scammers, and teaching people how not to get scammed on top of jagex's efforts.

I feel what I've been doing is right. If you feel that standing aside, to let scammers cheat and harm other people, then you are wrong. Because one of these days, you and your friends can get scammed, because you dropped your awareness.

Reading your comments make me want to re-read what I wrote earlier on when my pure was just a noob, and I realise that what really makes a big difference between then and now, is that I quite a few friends who I can talk to when I'm mining, and things I can show off now that I have a higher mining level as a pure.

I used to laugh or even tell people to get real friends when noobs ask me in lumbridge "can you be my friend? i'm new", thinking that they want to beg things off a lvl 72.

But whilst on my noob, I can't resist to add my best friends to my list, and add new ones while I'm mining, because I realise that having an empty friends' list, and not a friendly face around, is pretty hard on new comers to this game.

So the next time, you see a noob, remember that there's a chance that he's got an empty friends list, or that he's had a really bad day in the game. Just smile at him, and give him a moment of your time, it can turn out to be really rewarding, when he thanks you and calls you his "very best friend in the whole wide world". =)

Though if he asks for money, don't just give it to them, because that trains out a bad habit of begging, which isn't a good trait. Instead, take a few mins of your time if you ever pass by a begging noob, add them to your pm, and teach them to collect hides, or kill goblins to earn the money that they need. If you need a worker, then that does it too, but remember to treat them fairly. Don't ask them to mine you iron for 10gp ea, because they take a helluva long time to mine iron, and they deserve every bit of the 80-100gp per ore. And also, if you offer 10gp and ask them to mine you 1k ores, there's a chance that they won't come back, because they'll learn the true value of the ores while they are mining, and you'll lose your ores to a person who offers say 20, and the next who offers 50.

Having a permanent miner who sells you ores at 80, and treats you as his best friend and buys you lil things like toy horseys, and offers you a smile and an ear on a bad day, is worth every bit of attention you offered at the start, and more.

On my main, I have this long term noob who sells me wood at very low prices cuz I helped him out earlier on, and since he's only got 15 mins a day to play, he often comes to me with his wood whenever he gets enough. =) He can cut yew now, and he's selling them to me for 200ea and I'm just happy to have him come back once in a while with wood. =P

And, that's the Power of Being Nice to you. =) {If you're an adult, buy that book and read it. Works fine ;-) Otherwise, just remember to be nice, and it comes back well and rewarding. }

Though I must warn you, not everyone responds nicely, but if you are nice enough to enough people, those who smile back, smile brightly, and blots out all the frowns that you receive. =)
