fat_hobbit22
it makes sense... think how many hours it takes to buy a p hat, and if people use this as their job, and sell money as their only source of income, then its really not suprising, say it can take a a hor to get 1 mil that $6 an hour, very close if not under to minimum wage (duno what it is in america its around 5 pounds in england) and it really does make u thinnk befor u let ur m8 try on the p hat lolz
ugafan_2009
Uga, methinks you talking about me and Sethpat and my mask.... Oh well, i guess I never thought of it like that. ~Saruman44You were one person I thought of doing this, but I was mainly doing it because I've heard of phats. Kill_Thomas9
think about it: a party hat takes 460 mil to buy. Now lets take the max amount of money an average person can make per hour from skilling thats about 400k an hour (without getting 91 rc or anything) thats 1000 hours of work, just for the hat. Now if you spent all that time on an actual job, you would make about 10000 dollars in that amount of time. Now lets say you were stupid and bought your mills for $10 ea. Thats still under 5000 dollars, which is half of what you made. now lets say you are already a rich merchant, and have the best luck in the world, and never get scammed. You make 1mil an hour. thats 460 hours of work for a hat. Now even if you got paid minimum wage and made 8$ an hour. Thats still $3680. If you bought your mills for a basic price, not from any super rich rs gold seller company things, thats still 736 million gp. You could buy a white phat, and a blue, in the time it would to make gp for a blue. Now think if you made 400k an hour. You had a job that paid $15 (less than average jobs easily pay that). You also bought your mills for $2 each. thats 1150+ hours of rs work for a hat. -or- you could work for 1150 hours and make $17250. you would be able to buy 18 blue phats, and a white. so what would appeal to you more? 18 blue hats, and a white illegaly -or- 1 blue legaly

Peronix
Shows how crazy people are to buy RS money. Is it really worth spending over 2 grand on a paper hat that does nothing in the game? Most people have limits as to what they would steal from someone. You are simply showing that what we "lend" out is worth a hell of alot and I for one would not lend something worth 2 grand to a friend irl let alone a game. Think of it this way. During the time it would take some of these people to have enough gp for a blue party hat by doing meaningless repetive tasks in game they could have made enough real life cash to buy it on Ebay or something (i.e., using time working in real life instead of time in game for gp). That way, they spend less time on the game doing meaningless tasks, have more time for work and family, and get a nice blue party hat in their bank. To be honest, for people who can make cash fast and hate chopping down the same tree all day, it's a good move. It's debatable whether the system is corrupt or not, but the people buying those blue hats for $2,700 know what they're doing. That's exactly why Jagex made it illegal to buy/sell rs gold/items. It gives the buyer an unfair advantage in the game, because many of the players are minors without jobs. And yeah, that would be an incentive for 'scammers' beyond the pixels. If I were them that is what I would probally do (meaning if I were a scammer. no that dosen't mean i'd steal someones rare). Some people kill for less than that (RL money); so why would you put is past some people to simply betray their internet friend for for it? warren211
They sell p hats for over a thousand bucks? I say, anyone who wastes $1000 on a game is a total loser. [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.[/hide]Apparently a lot of people say it. Wrench_150
Wow, I never looked at it that way so the numbers kinda scare me. It's like giving away atleast $500 to a "friend" you met over the net. If not in rs terms and you met this friend on let's say msn, would you give about $1000 to borrow? Hard to actually see that rs items sell for that...*shivers* 99 Fletch~~99 WC~~79/81 Fishing87/94 Magic~~84 RangeEtha! Uula
But say you're a very good staker, and happen to get lucky one day and win a phat set.... I got no idea how much that is on rs, but it is enough to live for a year irl.

Drunkenmonka
Breaking it down into numbers like that really puts it into perspective. Which is something I don't want, having decided that I've had enough of not owning any rares (I cant recall when I first started (not properly I might add) RS, around 2004 maybe), I've set myself the task of crafting 60K nats with which to purchase a Halloween mask. All of this has to be completed before the Christmas/New Year period is over as I will have a lot of work to do after. Would I give up the chance to waste several dozen hours of my life if I thought I could just buy the gold? No, becuase I happen to enjoy playing RS regardless of how mindnumbingly reptitive the task in hand.
anonymouse_
You have to a complete idiot to trade someone one of your rares, especially a phat, if you don't know them very well irl.

cookiestealer222
I don't personally sell items on ebay, but it would make sense... say you have a job making $8 bucks an hour if you waste 3 hours in runescape to make 1m dollars your oppratunity cost is that if you worked 3 hours. runescape: 3 hours of your life for 1m irl: .75 hours of your life for 1m and that is why there is a market for selling things on ebay *I do not condone the buying and selling of items on ebay I only put out the facts*
