The game that defines gaming for you

Featured Replies

Well since my Halo 3 topic turned more into a what your favorite fps was, lets make a thread about what your favorite game was and why you enjoyed it so much. Runescape does not count, we all know that if you are here on the forums you like runescape to a certain extent. ;)

So lets start off with me.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. God that game was and still is amazing. At the time its graphics were decent, it actually made you think to get past certain areas. The game also had a decent story line. Where it failed though was the dungeons got "old" after you played through once or twice. Another area was the cut scenes, God not being able to skip those even though you watched them at least 10 times was really annoying. The controller, this isn't more about Ocarina, just an all around complaint about it. Even after half an hour my hands would be cramped. This is the one game I would love to see revamped and added onto. In my opinion this game is a 10/10 and will be a 10 in my mind forever.

Ocarina Of Time is definetly high on my list.

I still stick to Final Fantasy Tactics as my favorite game of all time. The replay value exceeds any other Final Fantasy, and most other games. So many secrets and sidequests in that game you can put hours and hours in it and still not see everything. Truly classic.

The best part was the atmosphere. It was so immersive, it had a brilliant storyline - the likes of which I haven't seen since. The sound was really good too, I believe it won some award for the music. Another excellent feature was how you could do things in so many different ways - something which was sorely missing in its' terrible sequel.

Probably Command & Conquer: Red Alert on the PS. My Dad and I used to system link the Playstations and play that for hours on end. Him and my cousin once had a match (they were rivals, both amazing, but never played eachother) the match lasted near 14 hours and my Dad had him, just.

For FPS I would have to say Halo and Counter Strike are my favorites. I stopped playing Halo for some in real life reasons where I can't access a t.v. So Now I play CSS. I suck [wagon] at it right now. Its a whole Different game from CZ. And I'm not sure why. :-k

Toe jam and earl was possibly one of the best games , it was my favorite because I played it with my sister and I'd always fall a few levels down and it was hard to get back together.

Probably the Commander Keen games, or Altered Beast. Those were the first games I ever played.

World of Warcraft.

When I found RS back in 2001 I quickly realized that MMORPG was going to be the genre of choice when it came to gaming for me. Since then, I've played a few, fascinated by their complexities and the fact that they manage to provide fun continiously over days, weeks, months, even years. Sure, Ultima Online created the genre in the first place. Sure, there's other MMORPG's that handle individual systems better - until Raph Koster is hired as creative director I doubt I'll ever see a craftic system as good as the one in SWG, and I still have a weak spot for the basic idea behind "guilds" in Asheron's Call.

But when Blizzard made WoW they still manage to combine most of the interesting pieces of MMORPG gaming, packaging it in a way that I'd describe as unusually balanced and continiously presenting it in a surprisingly bug-free format. Some of their unique handles on various problems are rapdidly becoming industry-wide standard.

In my opinion, it is a game that is - for next five-ten years - going to define the genre, for better or worse.

Final Fantasy VI (NOT VII, VI(6))

I remember renting this game for 7 weeks straight when it was on the snes. I could just slightly read at the time, so i understood the basic story line, although its themes were never really apparent to me (Still arnt because i havent gotten around to finishing it :-w ). I found the game to be hilarious though, plus the story line was very smooth (Ive tried to play VII, but the beginning is so slow, i couldn't possibly get into it.)

Another big one is Morrowind. When it came out, it gave me insight into large scale RPGs (Kinda like MMO's).

great game, the father of most RTS's, tho c&c was by no means the first.

i had that also, and used to link it with my friends and play. shortest match musta been about 10 minutes -

build yard, build tiberium thing, build barracks, build war factory, churn out 5 tanks, attack, win!

longest was probably when we played on some map with 3-4 rivers going east-west with a few bridges across each, i was on the 2nd to bottom at the right, he was bottom left. he spread LOADS of tesla coils across the entire bottom section, with rocket soldier things to protect from planes, tons of power plants so i couldnt take his power down, etc etc.

cant remember how i did it in the end.. mighta been building like 30 MIGs and using all the special weps at once, at the same time as the migs to take down his construction yard.

Although i waited 2 years for it, to complete it in a weekend, it was still the most intense gaming experience i've ever felt.

I use to like you till you said majora's mask was a defining point of gaming for you. Thats ba-donk. Majora's mask is by for the worst zelda/game ever designed that I have played and I've played my share of [cabbage]ty games.

Other then that you are a very well defined gamer.
