February 10, 200719 yr Well, we all know there are many 'problems' with the world, but which d'you think is in the biggest need to be adressed? Climate Change? Poverty? The reconstruction of our rain forests? Child abuse? Education? Terrorism? Crime? One could argue many are linked: Eg. If we reconstruct the rainforests, we can try to combat global warming, but that isn't the whole picture. If you had to try and define the critical problem with world, and a possible way to combat it, i'd like to hear from you. Keep it clean, and if feel free to post others not on my 'list'. ~Gin and Tonic.
February 10, 200719 yr Education, because it's linked to all of them. Technically, you could attempt to solve all of them (except possibly poverty) starting with education.
February 10, 200719 yr Author Education, because it's linked to all of them. Technically, you could attempt to solve all of them (except possibly poverty) starting with education. However, with the right education and the right resources, we could educate the third world populations to become agriculutural (sp?) workers, which would inturn generate an income - The only problem with that is the occurance of natural disasters... It would have little effect training them all, only to have their year crops ruined with one natural disaster.
February 10, 200719 yr I agree that education is the most important. Strengthen education, and you strengthen most other areas. The absolute least, in my opinion, is terrorism/war.
February 10, 200719 yr Poverty. Too many people in the world don't even have proper living conditions :? . [if you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature.] Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.
February 10, 200719 yr Author Poverty. Too many people in the world don't even have proper living conditions :? . Possible the cause of bad education? In some cases, the basics cant physically be given to them, because of the land itself/where they live...

I agree, spreading a little of the wealth will help some 3rd world countries to gain a better education system. < | Runehead | Learning Java Programming, Please PM Me Tips | Signature by Loaf2000 | >
February 10, 200719 yr You missed one. Corruption. With all the will in the world, you can't sort out the problems in the world if the people ment to be sorting them out pocket the money and get away with it. Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar!
February 10, 200719 yr Education, because it's linked to all of them. Technically, you could attempt to solve all of them (except possibly poverty) starting with education. Good point, I agree. However, I am actually starting to think that climate change is an issue that needs to be addressed. No not through silly taxing air travel initiatives, but by looking into alternative energy sources for the rapidly developing countries like China and India. Because let's face it, at the rate they're industrialising it doesn't matter how many lights we turn off. Yes, climate change is an issue, we have to face up to that. I've long dodged it and been skeptical but actually, if we don't really look into what we're doing, it might be too late already. Of course, these are all issues that need addressing though. No point tackling climate change to preserve a society in which child abuse goes unchecked. It's just some are a little more essential for our overall survival as a species. I'd also like to add politcal correctness to that list :P "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"

February 10, 200719 yr There's no point in educating the world if there isn't going to be a world in X amount of years because of climate change. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.

February 10, 200719 yr We should stop hating our own kind because of petty diffrences. THEN we can talk about what needs to be solved. Agreed. "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."
February 11, 200719 yr All are interlinked. Tackle all at once. (uneducated people turn to crime, poverty leads to rain forests being destroyed, climate change will lead to poverty, education and research could stop climate change or at least help us prepare for it, terrorism is linked to poor education and poverty, child abuse leads to children not responding to education etc.etc.etc.) For it is the greyness of dusk that reigns. The time when the living and the dead exist as one.
February 11, 200719 yr I would say either rain forests or climate change. Rain forests give off tons of oxygen and contains millions of species of animals. Climate change can just flat out ruin the world. All of this is kind of a Catch 22. 122 Combat : 99 Hits : 99 Attack : 99 Strength97/99 Defence : 99 Fletching : 99 Woodcutting

You know who turns to crime? People that are being discriminated against and have no way of living. Terrorism isn't always because of lack of education either. Terrorism is mostly linked with peoples beliefs. Like I said, gotta solve the petty diffrences, then tackle the 'major' problems. I would say either rain forests or climate change. Rain forests give off tons of oxygen and contains millions of species of animals. Climate change can just flat out ruin the world. All of this is kind of a Catch 22. February 11, 200719 yr The biggest problem is old, out-of-touch, corrupt politicians running everything. I gaurentee you that a group of 100 people from this Forum could run the Congress and make better decisions than our current Congress. These people are old and money-grubbing. They're not getting crap done. But to pick one of yours: Education. I find it ironic that there is never any money in the budget for education, but there's always enough to drop $80,000 bombs on civilian complex's. The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past. - Me!
February 11, 200719 yr Enough improvement to education means that there would be less corruption and similar. Also, educated people tend to be less poor (poverty), more environmentally conscious (rainforest and climate change), and slightly less inclined to turn to crime or violence (crime, child abuse, terrorism). Education really needs to be expanded, though, starting from elementary school - teaching children basic academics is no longer enough. Moral and social issues need just as much, if not more, instruction in. There should be some sort of test that doesn't led mean, petty, squabbling, money-hungry [cabbage]s pass middle school.
February 11, 200719 yr Moral and social issues need just as much, if not more, instruction in Wait, telling people what to think now? That wouldn't be something a democratic government should be doing. Enough improvement to education means that there would be less corruption and similar. Education does NOT stop corruption whatsoever. People will do anything to make a lot of money, even stab their grandmothers in the back. So.. you try teaching people greed is bad without brainwashing them. Also, educated people tend to be less poor (poverty), Wrong, wrong and just wrong. It's not education that keeps you out of poverty. It's having a job! Any [wagon] can go work in a factory for a decent wage. and slightly less inclined to turn to crime or violence (crime, child abuse, terrorism). Again, education is given FAR FAR too much value. WE ARE HUMANS, WE SCREW UP. EDUCATION DOES NOT STOP US FROM ABUSING THE THINGS WE HAVE. We turn to crime because we have to. There are a few people out there who do it for other reasons, but that's a minority. Teaching children to keep their minds open is what we need to teach. BUT WAIT! We taught kids how to have sex safetly. WAH, my child will be corrupt! We need to teach kids how to take care of themselves. How they do it is their business. Not yours. Ever. Big Brother. And I resent what you said. I'm petty, I squabble, and I'm a money-hungry human. Just like you. Except I have the balls to admit it. I have never commited any crimes, I have never betrayed my friends or family. Will I ever? Yes. Why? I'm human. Why? Because humans are easy to corrupt. Proud founder of the Myriad
February 11, 200719 yr Moral and social issues need just as much, if not more, instruction in Wait, telling people what to think now? That wouldn't be something a democratic government should be doing. Yeah, that's for the popular media and other kids your age to do. They're a much more reliable source.
February 11, 200719 yr Add 'genocide'. That's what I vote for. Or World leaders notgivina [cabbage] about other people' and I vote for that one also.
February 11, 200719 yr Moral and social issues need just as much, if not more, instruction in Wait, telling people what to think now? That wouldn't be something a democratic government should be doing. Yeah, that's for the popular media and other kids your age to do. They're a much more reliable source. Now, now. Don't you think for one second I pay attention to the media and take it seriously. Personally, I don't give a rats [wagon] as to what's happening in the world today. Why? Because no news I ever hear ever true. The best way to stay informed is to read several articles of the same thing and then using, what many of us lack, logic, we can stay informed. February 11, 200719 yr My reasons why I picked poverty: Climate Change? The earth is eventually gonna get hit by an asteriod and cause a ice age and we're dead. Poverty? Everyone deserves a life. Food, education, health and everything. Instead of dying at the age of 5 because your parents died and you have no food to eat. Poverty would help so many things other than the rest. The reconstruction of our rain forests? Can't think of a reason for this one because it effects the whole world Child abuse? I think they're doing a good job on this one. If your getting beat just call 911 and they will do something. Education? Linked with poverty Terrorism? Bush is on it. Crime? You can't stop crime. Quit RuneScape :)
February 11, 200719 yr Author Would education abolish poverty? Like stated, we could have all the knowledge in the world, but you cant eliminate natural disasters. I'd like to think Bush was on to Terrorism, but i cant. Child abuse is much more extensive than calling 911 if you're 'getting beat'. Most of the victims are 2 or 3 years old.
February 11, 200719 yr Climate change.... all of those other things you mentioned are gonna get a LOT worse if we don't sort our emission out. The disasterous effect of climate change will destroy economies and make you realise that what we have today, isn't all that bad after all.
