andylax38
Even if older players start getting tired of the game and dropping there membership there is always a new generation of people to begin playing. I see the the amount of players entering and leaving the game level out at some point but until jagex decides to stop the game, I don't see the amount of memberships dropping anytime soon. ~>~Check Out My Bursting Guide~<~Current goals - 99 Slayer, 99 Summoning, 85 DungeoneeringAchieved goals - Quest Cape, 99 Strength, 85 Slayer, 99 Range, 88 Summoning, 90 Slayer, 99 Magic, 99 Farming
miracleman58
The boys and girls I do think that eventually, Jagex will die out as all companies do. Eventually, Microsoft will die out, and Nintendo, and other major companies. my friend how long have nintendo been in circulation now, when u think there down and out they realese a game console like no other but u cant compare jagex to nintendo they are totally different and i do think jagex will dies out eventually :( but i would of quit by then :ohnoes: 1593th to 99 Farming - July 08. Harrington
As others have mentioned... they'll likely give the graphics engine a LOT of focus. The game is currently limited due to the Java language. I would expect any major graphical updates to mean a move away from a browser based game. Runeman231
Numerous Jagex mods have announced that they are making other games(in addition to RuneScape, ofcourse).
lorddayu
Nintendo has been in business Since the 1850's. Not necessarily the best example. What Nintendo did in 1850? oO they made playing cards
x_bow80
Runescape is ages from dying out. I would not be worried at all about the end for a long time. Runescape is actually comparably still in it's infancy, believe it or not, or at least in teenagehood. It has a lot of potential, and this is great because the internet speeds are increasing and so are the updates. Runescape has not been completely explored, recently we discovered another, larger, planet in the Runescapian Solar System (Large Orrey, POH) and of course, there is scaperune. By no ways is it going to end yet. Jagex will make an escape plan when the suitable time comes (in other words, the player numbers peak). Does that mean when the RS2 Beta was launched it was going through puberty? The body is changing so many different things going on in your head, you never feel right in your own skin, that pretty much describes the RS2 Beta and RS2 in it's first few months. Wakka: AFAIK: As Far As I KnowOh I thought it was a game that Jagex is going to release  Lol, me 2. I was like "hahaha, no 1 will ever play a game with a title like that" 99 Pics - Range, Defence, HP, Attack, Magic, Strength, Cooking
Raven6666
No-one can ever compare RuneScape to W/W properly. RS is built on Java from JAGeX, whilst Blizzard Entertainment has built massive amounts of chains with Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo and a few more. Compare it in ratio the size of needed file + filespace, type of graphics and player base, it'll be surprising(also add on the amount of cash earned by one version of W/C). If JAGeX became JAGeX Entertainment, Blizzard would surely have a run for their money. JAGeX will not fall for a very, very long time, and if they do, they could(nothing is impossible) just release special versions of downloadable RS for us(currently, the .cab files and .dat files are 34Mbs, so it won't be a strain on anyone) [hide= RS3D(not RS3, but RS2 as you people call it)](what we have now - for those who don't know, its a term used by some of the players which started from Classic)[/hide] is basically the first step for major upgrades to RuneScape. Expect to see a more streamlined version (of RS) in a couple of years, it'll make Classic and the MUD seems like a total catch for a historical set. Conorscool
Although RS3 would be nice i doubt it, i think they'll wait until they've completely wreck rs2 first :? . 98% Of teenagers surround their minds with rap music, if you're part of the 2% that stayed with rock, put this in your signature, ROCK IS BETTER! Doomster
Jagex are, for better or worse, presumably pretty strongly commited to the Java platform, though what weaknesses that has compared to any other language is questionable, especially with Sun's open-source moves. Not sure, can you play Runescape in Linux? - write once, run anywhere, that's supposed to be the whole point of the bytecoded, JIT interpreted/compiled nature of Java. As for runescape (RS2), even if it entered a fade-down, it could still be a strong revenue stream, either in membership or ad-sponsored forms. Only an idiot would kill the goose, even if it wasnt laying quite as many golden eggs as before. I wonder, are we likely to see a new, or new version game using an "item buy" model, popular among some of the far eastern games that are now beginning to make incursions to the west, despite "infection" with aggressive anti-hack systems that have significant security issues. malo2
Lets face the reality guys. Jagex does have it going good for them at the moment.. but a few years from now? Eventually those "subscriber" numbers will start declining. Eventually players will have hit the peak of the game or want something new. What do you think Jagex will do? Should they plan for Runescape 3 and a new engine? I'm highly positive that computers these days can handle any new engine that can be dished out. Discuss ~Defender~face reality? are you going back such claims up? Lastfm

Suiku
there are two possibilites: comes another game that totallyuberpwns jagex with better graphics/java engine-designed(or even easier system to use) and not laggy or atleast they change their game name to something more commercial than "Runescape" Veteran Cape Owner (10 year)
