How historical is runescape

Featured Replies

I was watching the history channel one day.I thought how runescape is

steeped in history like smithing the real reason for coal and iron to make steel is not only to create more heat but to add carbon. Also that back i dont know how many years in egypt the bow of choice was a composite bow.It was used for the extra power the bow gave but it was really expensive taking 18 months to make thus making them harder to get in runescape.

Chuck norris's beard hair grants you imortality

but then the razor sharp hair will rip holes in

your intestine's and you will die a painful death

some of rs stuff is based on real things

Why not ask "How is RS *not* historical to real life?". Because, basically, EVERYTHING in RS came from something else. Anyone ever know that there's a guide called "Ahrimian" in the religion Zoroastrianism? Yup. There is.

na, ahriman is the evil god, as opposed to atman, or something. Did you know there's a guthrun somewhere in history, possible linkage to guthan. Anyway, of course a lot of stuff is from rl, otherwise it'd be wacky and unrealistic. Iron is made from...iron, steel is made from..coal and iron..

Sure.... And Canifis. Known for its werewolves, right? Werewolves are dogs, right? The Latin word for "dog" is "canis." Hmm.... Aha! I've got it!

But yeah, it's a shorter list if you ask the inverse of your question.

perfect grammar is one thing, typing like a drugged monkey and enjoying it is another

AMEN!

i completely agree. I saw that too, how it was like 8:00 to 10:00 EST, they had all ancient stuff. Egyptian maces, swords, chariots, composite bows, and later about awesome weps developed by Archemities. Yeah I agree that its somewhat historic. Glad to see someone else shares my interest in the things like that too.

And I see what you're saying, but it's being based on history. Not history based on Runescape.

Fortunato, the wine seller in Draynor Village, was a character in some Edgar Allen Poe book I believe. There are many things in RuneScape linked to history and literature.

Anyway now to my point. A couple days ago there was another topic about this. Someone said something that i remeber very well. I cant remeber the name of the person and im to lazy to dig it up but he said:

I challenge you to think up of one thing in runescape that does not relate to real life history.

Runescape, yes, is based on real life. Maybe just maybe some little things are made up. I could not imagen Jagex creating all these names and historys completly out of the blue.

Alot of things are based on history, but that does not necessarilly mean it is historically acurate.

RuneScape is hardly historically accurate and this is coming from someone who knows history like the back of her hand.

Where do the flying dwarfs fit in(gnomes maybe i dont remember)?

Isn't there a warrior in the film gladiator that is wearing armour very simliar to veracs?

boratto.jpg

I don't think people understand.

Yes, the weapons and armour and such were used in the past but they're mainly common things used in games like this. Does it make it historicaly accurate? Nope. It's IMPOSSIBLE to create something that's not based on something else, that doesn't mean that the game was designed to be historically accurate just that the ideas were good and it gives Jagex ideas of things to put into the game.

Runescape may be based on history, in fact, I can't think of anything that isn't based on history, but piling together different historical myths, legends, religions and events doesn't mean that they all become historically true. And yes servation, I do remember the guy in gladiator who wore verac-esque armour.

Maces are also the preferred weapon of monks. Why you may ask?

Maces were designed to not spill blood, and hence they now give a prayer bonus, though JAGeX took a while to implement a connection between maces and monks.

Just name something that is in Runescape and based on nothing in the real world or literature.

Quests are a homage to multiple parts in real life. Weapons and armour are all based on reality, so is food, well most of it.

RuneScape is one of the best games because of it's unrealisticly great reality.

Isn't there a warrior in the film gladiator that is wearing armour very simliar to veracs?

Verac's armor is a variation of gladiator armor. I forgot which class it was. I think it may have been the murrmillo, but I'm not sure.

OT- Most games have at least a few things based on real life. Runescape has things based on real life and they take stuff straight out of other games.

Theres tiny things that are based on history too.

well obviously it wont follow an actual historical story line, I'm pretty sure everyone is aware that magic never existed. You just don't understand what everybody is saying; runescape is based off of historical mythology and facts. Things like magic, dragons, ect. people believed in back then, its called mythology. Other things like coal and iron make steel, or mahogany is a tropical wood commonly used for furniture, are based on facts that are true even today.

Edit: dwarfs and gnomes are both mythology, and gliders did exist back then.

Well, there are Monkfish in real life. And the european name for Monkfish is Piscatoris... Sounds familiar?
