Starbuck
I've tried searching this forum and googling but it's tough to find the info I want based on these non-unique keywords. When we get fire giants for slayer, the slayer masters have this to say when you ask "got any tips for me?" : Like other giants, Fire Giants often weild large weapons, learn to recognize what kind of weapon it is and act accordingly. Sure enough the fire giants fight with clubs, swords, and bare hands. Can someone post some details here, or provide a link to info about the best way to fight against each of these weapons? I've seen a couple "how to fight fire giant" web pages. These were pretty lame because they mention that there are different ways to fight, but then go on only to explain what kind of armor to wear for melee, ranging, and magic. Um... duh. Thanks!

primadog
well, club is techincally "crush" and sword "slash," but with the current way armor and weapon setup there is really nothing useful regarding that information. Just range them :P All I learned in life, I learned on Tip.it
gago
They mostly use "Crush" - Clubs are obviously a weapon to crush things, i.e. heads - The swords that Fire giants hold are supposedly Dragon two handed swords and two handed swords are mostly meant to crush :P - Hands - giants are very strong but clumsy creatures, which means their hands have a crushing attack too(try watching cartoons with giants, you will see what I mean :)) So if you want to fight Fire giants, just wear armor with high Crush defence and whip them out(or if you do not have whip use Dragon longsword or scimitar) :) "Happines only real when shared." inferno_char
Well they are fire based so their elemental weakness is water. If you are a mage you can use water spells or a ranger can use enchanted sapphire bolts with a xbow.
gago
Inferno, is that confirmed? Do the elements really matter in RuneScape. I don't think so(only in a few quests), because you don't hit Fire giants harder with Water bolt than with Fire bolt, because all the spells have the max hit cap and you can't go over that. But it could be in accuracy. Maybe you could hit high more often with water spells on them. Maybe :) "Happines only real when shared." Fredz
Well they are fire based so their elemental weakness is water. If you are a mage you can use water spells or a ranger can use enchanted sapphire bolts with a xbow. This is not pokemon. Use best crush defence gear and melee them with stab/slash weapon. If you dont melee, use ranged. They are weak agenst ranged attacks Do not crush them. They have very high crush defence. 21 lag piles, 4 Pjs, 2 Party hat kills, 67 newbs teached. The Observer
I would wear probably armour with a fair amount of crush bonus if your worried about it. And use slash attacks as "crush" attacks have low effectiveness against fire giants.
gago
This is not pokemon. I thought of Pokemon too :D I used to play them a lot, so that was the first thing that i thought about when he mentioned elements and weakness :P Anyways as I said: Crush defence and Slash attack bonuses :) Range isn't bad either but I prefer melee them. Having Guthan would be a good idea. "Happines only real when shared." mario_tpop
the fire giants all use crush, what the slayer master says is in relation to that, basically telling you to wear armour with crush defence. ~the plumber of pain~~currently - training range (when i'm online)~[heres my 99 mage vid! summoning charm guide: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?p=5641302#5641302

Well it may not be pokemon, but that doesn't mean elemental damage doesn't have different effects. Take the bosses of DT for example, guides suggest to use a different type magic spell for each boss and they usually correspond with what you would think their elemental weakness is. I don't think this theory is that far-fetched.
marnuke
actually one of the slayer monsters the master will tell you to use a element against the monster if your maging, showing that the elements do make a difference. Can't remember what monster, got to level 55 slayer in 3 days, so i was doing assignments pretty fast. edit- just thinking about it and i'm pretty sure it is ice giants/warriors tell you to use fire spells against them, anyone got an ice giant/warrior assignment they can check real quick? Barrows drops: ahrims staff (2), karils coif, karils xbow, torags plate body, veracs helm.
Starbuck
Thanks for the H&A so far. The info provided makes sense. With 88 combat, 73 magic, and 60 ranged, I prefer melee at the moment but wouldn't mind training on fire giants with ice arrows or water blast/wave. For melee I tend to use rune baxe - yeah, I know, get a scimmy... What I'm wondering is, for melee we know they use crush for their own weapon of choice, and crush-proof defence is in order, but is there a preferred weapon against beasts who use crush weapons? I've read stab/slash weapons are best - again pointing to scimmy rather than baxe. I don't have a whip or hally (spending my money elsewhere) I'm thinking about checking stats to see if something silly like Excaliber or Silverlight might actually be better in this case. Dang, it would be nice to see a table of beasts, armor types, and preferred weapon types against each. The problem with figuring this stuff out is that everyone hits differently, and hits are a factor of accuracy and strength. If I miss, was it because the weapon isn't the right one against the opponent's armor, or is my (71) attack just causing me to miss too often against that specific opponent? We never know their att/str/def, only their level and hits. It's tough to know which factors are dominent without fighting 100 beasts with one weapon, 100 with another, and getting some good numbers. Sigh, there I go again looking at this game like it's a mathematical enigma. :-k
Tim
well i dunno if this works but the fire giant weild a 2h like a regular sword so it would use crush, then i suppose finding the right combo in armors for crush, as for weapon wise, id say more brutality as it has some decent defence so i guess scimmys are out. now i dont know if this works or not, i havent versed a fire giant in over 5 months since i decide to do waterfall quest :-$ Popoto.~<
Niiro_Agian
mabey off topic but i do know that the unarmed ones have a higher def and that slash attacks work well against fire giants hi
Starbuck
Not OT at all. I was surprised when one of those bare handed guys actually whacked me with a high 20 something, harder than one with a weapon. Might have been a fluke but that was one of the reasons I posted here.
