Sprichst du deutsch? - Do You Speak German?

Featured Replies

I was just on the Deutsch worlds and it made me wonder. If I played this all the time, how well would I learn Deutsch?

Not very well you might pick up the written word meaning but not the pronunciation.

I would agree with "not very well".

You may learn conversational, slang, broken German but not that great. I would assume even Germans use abbreviations and slang in-game. They may not even use correct grammar, I know a lot of English players don't -.-.

Also it would be "Sprechst du Duestch?"

Must conjugate the verb and spell it right =P.

If you know more than "a bit" of german, you can learn (you will know where the slang is). If you don't even know the pronuncation, don't bother. That will not help you at all.

... Du beat ich to es (You beat me to it in a mix of Deutsch and English).

Ja, je spreche deutsche, aber night gut. (Yes, I speak German but not too well...)

Losers...

Are you blind or ignoring me on purpose?

Even though I sometimes side with religious people in some debates, I no longer consider myself religious.

I speak German, and i've taken to playing on the german server as well.

in the last line it's Ja, ich spreche and I live in the netherlands near the german border, and for one reason or another we have the same accent as people living in Berlin

Ich verstehe deutsch, aber ich kan es nicht sprechen (I understand German, but I can't speak it (not good that is, and my writing isn't good either))

I don't speak a word of German, but I'll still go on German RS for peace and quiet.

here here! it would have been good if it had a english to german translator, you'd be picken up words in no time

but that is very hard to make

Comming from Switzerland I speak German (native speaker).

If you know the basics about the German language it could help to learn more words. But all the slang is a problem. It is difficult to learn the correct spelling with all the abbreviations at times. But still from the quest dialogs and items one can learn a lot. At least that's what it has been with the English version for me.

Btw. the correct title would be "Sprichst Du Deutsch" (Do you speak German) or "Spricht jemand Deutsch" (Does anybody speak German).

There is a very good English-German dictionary on http://dict.leo.org/ which helped me a lot.

Ja, jag ocksÃÆÃâÃâÃÂ¥ talar lite svenska. :P (I also speak a little Swedish.)

I do hate all the people speaking English on the German server though, arrogant little you know whats. <.<

I still think it should've been a Dutch server though.

You may want to check your conjugation then...Ich spreche, Du sprichst

I was wondring the same thing! I have a few friends in German class who I can start calling stupid because: "You don't know German" hehe. I was on the German server 140, welk140, and I learned some things from it. I don't see how you can't learn anything, but probably not much. If you take down what NPC's say in English, go to German servers to see what they mean, you might, but not really.

Ya you're right, I thought it was sprichst but since we're doing imperfects right now, I thought I might be getting it confused. Forgot the imperfect was sprachen.

I just love playing with German verbs.

I was playing on a German server and making a real effort to try speaking/understanding them. I was using a translator and everything, and i felt like within an hour I was learning and picking up on things. I think if I played as much as I used to I would eventually get a good hold on the language.

I speak a bit. Most of the things I say on the German server are still in Englisch, because I don't appreciate sounding like a toddler.

Runescape in German is better than any picture book for learning. However, going on there with no previous knowledge of German seems like it'd mess up your pronunciation quite a bit.

Ya I'm hating the different conjugations right now, and tenses. I forget them a week after I learn them.
