RayOxide
If you didn't notice, I am kinda getting upset with grammar nazi's, now I dont mean cry cry upset, I mean annoyed upset. I mean, these people, however smart they want to act, have to take a debate or an arguement down to "You spelt that word wrong." etc, etc. Of course, sometimes these people are trying to educate, but most of the time, its just an annoying try to act smart, look smart, and look "better" than the person. Personally, I really hate it when these people come along. I have a few (yeah only a few) friends who are basically the grammar nazi's I talk about, some can be nice, decent people, but when they get p0wnz0r3d in a debate, it just drops into this. Another part about this that annoys me is when a grammar nazi on forums (not always this one), or other multi people chat places, sees a person typing in "chatspeak", explains that its not understandable, when majority of the time, it is. These people then go on and say spelling like this will give you a hard time getting a job, etc. Really? You actually think these people do this in schoolbooks? Well, newsflash, they don't. Well, majority dont. I know. Im a year 9. Not only is this very very annoying, it's very very low. And when you try to explain to them that they are the people who have a challenge, they tell you you're wrong, and start picking on every typo, or spelling mistake you make. ONLY so they can look 'cool'. Thoughts? I dont need a siggy no moar.
AlexDT
Please don't refer to me as a Nazi. Oh, and deliberately putting apostrophes where they're not supposed to be in order to prove your point is also fairly low. And another 'oh': You're typing a piece of text for a forum. There is no rush. I don't see any reason to disregard simple grammatical rules, other than laziness. I can understand why people drop capitalisations or abbreviate a word in-game, but in a forum you have plenty of time to edit your writing and make sure that it is properly written. If you honestly don't know where to put a comma (a position I often find myself in), fine. If you understand the grammatical rules, however, adhere to them. RayOxide
I'm not referring to you, and frankly, as long as a word is understandable I find theres no reason to tell people this stuff. Also, I dont forget to put apostrophes in, I just cant be bothered half the time, and they arent necessary. And who cares if there is no rush? Theres no need to tell people to use proper english. I do use 90% proper English, 10% off for apostrophes and some capitalisations I cant be stuffed doing, but just because my english is good doesnt mean everyone else has to. It's the internet. Some people type slow, unlike me, and plus, telling someone to use proper english when it doesnt matter (since the way I explained basically said I'm talking about when GN's tell people who have understandable chatspeak to use normal english) is just stupid. It really doesnt matter as lnog as you can raed wahts hppaennig. I dont need a siggy no moar.
Wongtong
AlexDT, I doubt everyone wants to spend 10 minutes typing out a post for a forum with perfect grammar and spelling, as these posts will have no affect on their life whatsoever. Then having to spend another 10 minutes after that checking to make sure that there are no mistakes, just in case a "grammar nazi" (as everyone seems to call them) will start flaming at them.. ridiculous. 8,180WONGTONG IS THE BEST AND IS MORE SUPERIOR THAN ME#1 Wongtong stalker.Im looking for some No Limit soldiers! Bauke
There's nothing wrong with a bit of decent grammar. Point is, some people's grammar, spelling and interpunction is godawfully [developmentally delayed]ed which makes their posts extremely annoying to read. Also it's lazy and disrespectful to your fellow forum members. I mean sure, everyone makes mistakes, but people that are too lazy to even fix typos can gtfo. What about too lazy to fix split infinitives? Teeg It's fine if you don't know where to put the adverb. I wouldn't expect most people know what a split infinitive is, and so I won't shriek at them when they make the error. I've probably made at least 10 grammatical slip-ups in this thread alone, simply because I am not aware of them. However, if you are aware of what a split infinitive is, correct any instances that you have noticed. All I ask is that people correct their grammatical errors, instead of deliberately ignoring them. AlexDT, I doubt everyone wants to spend 10 minutes typing out a post for a forum with perfect grammar and spelling, as these posts will have no affect on their life whatsoever. I'm sorry, but unless you're writing a complex thesis on the aesthetical attributes of Armadyl armour, it is not going to take 10 minutes to check your writing for errors. If you're so pressed for time, forget the subordinate clauses and comma splices. But please, use "it's" where it's needed, instead of "its". It's not that difficult. langer
I have been on these boards for the last 4 years mostly reading stuff. The "grammar nazis" are not such a big problem as you seem to put it. I rarely see a thread degenerating into grammar correction. Most of the times, you will have the OP dumping a text with crappy grammar or "kidspeak" followed by advices from users to improve his grammar for a more easy to read (and thus answer) post. Mostly when I'm faced with people using either poor grammar or worse... "kid-net-l33t-speech", I will usually ignore them as I view them as drop-outs-no-future players. If you ask for advices making no effort, I won't make an effort to help you. If you want to chat with me using a language I hate to decipher, then we should not be talking to each other (there are a lot of 8 years-old out there for you to talk to, don't bother with me). If you choose to act inferior, that's your choice. But if you want to interact in a community of players, at least have the decency to write to the best of your knowledge (the internet means we have people all around the world on the same platform with different languages, english is not always the native language). I, for one, would hate to see tip.it's go downhill because people are either too lazy to write properly or worse, think that they look cool with crappy text. Alg
Chatspeak is to save time. It's a bit faster to write 'u r here' than 'you are here', isn't it? Probably helps in fast-paced games where the time it takes to type 'you' could be the time it takes to not get your head blown off by a sniper. As for grammar nazis, there isn't too big a problem, unless they cite the fact that your grammar is wrong as an argument against the point of your post. Omali
Forum posts are like gardens. Keep it trimmed, fresh, and watered, remember to pull the weeds, and don't over-manure. If you let your garden get too trashy, unkempt, full of weeds, and overflowing with bull-manure, people are going to take notice and point it out to you. Moad14
Well, I try very hard to restrain myself most of the time, but when people intentionally mar the English language I afford them no mercy. Even so, I hope I'm not coming off as one of the grammar nazis. :? I love to meet people; send me a pm if you see me on RuneScape! :)
compfreak847
I don't usually criticize, but I try to have good grammar (dyslexia is as good an excuse as any :P ) Still, the whole 'it doesn't take as long' is stupid. Which takes longer to type, there or their? It's or its? We're arguing about milliseconds, and far more then that is lost by every one of the hundreds of people pausing to figure it out. la la la
People aren't grammar Nazis because they want to be "better" than another person. People are grammar Nazis because it drives them crazy when others don't have 14 years of education like themselves (Yes, not everyone is in AP English 4 right now). Personally, I only hate it when people make grammatical errors intentionally because it's "cute"-- when in fact it is far from cute.

Grammar and Socialists are the main points of the rant, silly. Can you find the predicate nominatives in my post? I, for one, am all for the grammar Nazis. Wongtong
Chatspeak does get really annoying though.. so I guess grammar nazis aren't that bad, but I think it would be much better if they PMed someone about their grammar instead of making drama on a topic over someone's grammar. 8,180WONGTONG IS THE BEST AND IS MORE SUPERIOR THAN ME#1 Wongtong stalker.Im looking for some No Limit soldiers!
