Powermining and keeping your sanity--is it possible?

Ok, so, i've done some powermining in the past. But receently, I've started doing it pretty hardcore--you know, the kind where you never even stop to trade or drop a full load of ores.

Anyway, I was just wondering what people do to keep from going crazy, and it makes my eyes hurt too (ohhh, pity party for me, waaaah  ).

As a bonus, I was just wondering what other powerminers have found the practical limits of xp per hour on busy and not busy worlds to be.

Thanks

I appluad you because powermining has brought me closer to suicide than anything else I've ever done.

Your exp. per hour will greatly depend on how quickly you dispose of your ores.

I for one will kill myself if I ever have to powermine. Don't have pancience (sp). :wall:

Well, as far as the time it takes me to drop my ores, it doesn't really take any. I mine on a low-population world (600-800 people) and I mine three rocks, boom-boom-boom, then i turn to the first of the three rocks and have plenty of time (in powermining, "plenty of time" means about half a second extra) to drop my 3 ores before the first rock respawns. This way i loose practically no time and don't have to fool around with trading off the ores or dropping a full load.

However, the added efficiency is just making it an even more insane prospect. I think maybe the solution is to alternate powermining one night and bank mining something else fun the next, like coal, mith, gold...

But how long I can go on my powermining nights is something i don't know. Maybe music is the solution(?)

My bonus question still stands, how much xp per hour can i reasonably expect to get?

dont know about exp per hour it was a long time ago i powermined.

i used to powermine coal...yeah...coal. and im still sane...kinda.

my way of doing it though was to a quiet server and mining at edgeville mine (next to the hobgoblins and skelles) theres 6 coal rocks and you can do a circle and then mine the mith rock and repeat. the mith rock spawns every 2 rounds so you end up with 1 mith for every 12 coal. tele to varrock and repeat. this is how i got to 65 mining. and one day i shall return to get 85 mining.

you don't really feel bored that way, just kinda dazed :P

afterwards, you'll have little memory of the experience and wonder where all those levels came from 8-)

Why not take it a bit easier?

Lose a little time?

Take some time to drop your ores.

Can't hurt THAT much/

Does anyone happen to know death_siren? She stole a green mask from me, and I think I found my way into her ignore list. If you know anything, please, don't hesitate to give me a pm.

When I powermined I could get an average of 40k exp per hour, at the al kharid mine. I generally used worlds with 1500-1700 people, since the respawn rate was perfect for me to mine 3, then drop 3 and have the rocks be ready again at the perfect moment. As for maintaining sanity, I usually listened to music, or listened to the TV. If I was unable to do that, I would do 10 min of hard mining, then relax and do some slow mining, maybe get the addy and mith, while reading the forums.

First thing if you're powerminning in p2p there is a granite mine in the desert. bring a ring of dueling to teleport out when done. Anyways no water needed in that area, never crouded and the exp is about like minning gold at the rate of iron ore. its really grat minning and there is even some coal there to powermine on if u perfer that!

Haven't trained my mining skill for quite a while, simply because if I did my pc would end up with a foot-shaped hole in the side of it, and I fear for the safety of my family. I wish you good luck.

Nope, you can't average 40k per hour, it's simply not possible. You CAN get 40k mining exp in an hour if you manage to get on a full world, have no randoms interrupt you, click perfectly every time you drop your 3 ores, and never have anyone else show up and try to mine your rocks. But a more realistic AVERAGE exp gain is 36k per hour, and that still requires that you do nothing but mine and drop, mine and drop, etc. And, having gone through it, I can tell you - it really, REALLY sucks.

As for how to keep sanity, it's really simple - CHANGE YOUR SCENERY!!! Don't sit in al-Kharid for days and mine, you simply can't keep that up. Do it for a couple hours, then teleport to ardy and mine there for an hour. Then go superheat in the mining guild - it's a little known fact that once you get above 75 mining, superheating with coal is actually pretty good exp - close to 20k per hour, plus a bit of smithing and mage exp. This might not sound like much, but it's a comparable rate to mining and banking iron in Yanille. When you feel the black lung coming on, go mine some gold. Then maybe try some addy in the wilderness, or whatever.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that you don't have to go out and always be getting the max exp per hour possible. Save the marathon powermining jag for when you hit level 84. When you're in al-Kharid, get the addy, mith, and gold. When you're in ardougne, don't hesitate to superheat yourself some steel bars. Keep changing what you do and where you do it every couple of hours. Make sure you have a good movie on TV, but one you've seen before that you don't need to pay full attention to. You'll make it there - eventually.

this is really good advice...this makes me think about powermining again to lvl 70.

what i did was powermine the 3 rocks below fally but that gets boring after a while. A good tip is get 2-3 newbs to run iron to the fally bank for u. They will do it for 500gp a run. You can alternate between having them run for you and simply powermine.

I'm sorry, but I beg to differ. If you go out and mine as fast as you can for 10 min, you will most likely get around 7k xp. This works out to an hourly xp rate of 42k, which essentially unreachable. 40k an, however, is perfectly reasonable, if you have the attention span. Like I said, I did it at fairly full worlds, and I didn't get many random events ( a couple dwarfs, some MOM, and a drill demon). At any given hour of powermining, 40k is an acceptable rate, if you're focusing. Once you get into the rythm, you can listen to music and completly forget about your arm moving, which makes the time fly by. If one has trouble maintaining this pace though, then your advice is excellent. I powermined from the mid 70's to 85 mining in a bit more than a week, so I am rather knowledgable on the subject.

I powermined almost 9 months ago. I remmber i get 35k exp per hour in world 1. And it took me 15 days from 74-85. Right now, my mining lvl is 35k exp till 88. Perhapy 88 does not sounds very high to you. but just give u an ideal the money made from 85-88 is 1 red phat + 1 santa + 20m Cash. Indeed, power mining is no fun at all; However, I have fun Mining and pk 4 life. you are adviced by a cb 106 with 270m bank account. if you want to be ubar, do not listen to noob :shame:
