krisc6
Well with jagex pretty much ko ing real world trading for good have they forgot about another type of real world trading, account selling? I remember watching a special documentry on BBC 2 a couple of years ago about the selling of virtual property over the internet. The examples they focused on was star wars galaxies and second life. The first coming under scrutiny over storys of chinese sweatshops and even a death from a worker who sat grinding the game for many days in a row.The latter example was about the whole idea of people making millions off second life exchanging the in game currency for dollars. Anyway ill focus on the first. With the changes theyve made to stop trading items without a balance theyve forced that way of farming gold and transferring materials out of the game,or at least made it ridiculousley inconveniant. Now the reason i brought up my story was because it wasnt the farming of materials,it was the farming of exp.Grinding exp on accounts which would eventually be sold onto players. A hypothetical example would be a maxed out character being sold for $400-$500. I know that it wouldnt take long for people to realise that this sort of thing is going on because its a maxed out character buts its just an example. But now that these real world traders have been forced out of the traditional ways of making money of this genre of gaming is this the alternative. Could you imagine seeing players with random names just hoarding youre favourite training spot or a "high level" player asking you for the directions to lumbridge and begging for stuff? I cant but i think jagex overlooked this or saw it as a problem because theirs nothing from me telling you my username and password here?Nothing, which could make exp farmers endlessly slaying rock crabs or running laps around the various agility courses a very distinct sight. kris
123neopet
New industry? Heck no. Go to Ebay. Look up "Runescape Account." This has been going on for a while.... Unless they REALLY start mass producing accounts, we're safe. However, if RFGT41234 (example) suddenly tops Zezima in the high scores, we'll know we have a problem on our hands. P2P forever!... Or at least 'til <insert excuse here> happens98% of people have signatures with made up statistics in them. If you're one of the 2% that doesn't, copy this and add it to your signature. Artificial_Doom_Flavor
The bigger threat comes from people who design sophisticated macros and autoing programs for RuneScape. These could easily be sold, and with the skill-oriented direction RuneScape has taken, it won't be long before their time comes... Still enjoying RuneScape? Sean_Chaos
lol no one buys actual accounts its too easy to get scammed (old recovery questions work for a while) but what you do have to worry about is those asians in the sweatshops logging into YOUR (not their) accounts and power-leveling for you (or making 5 mil for you and you pay them say 20 bucks for it) Thats what i have a feeling is the next target and i have a feeling that jagex next response will be a continental IP system where only IP adresses in your area work
InkofDeath
To get level 100 combat, with a decent total of 1500, only takes a regular user 8 months if they know what they are doing. I can assume, account farmers could do it in 3-4 months, even shorter if they find ways to do it faster, and then sell for a decent, fine amount. Customized characters would be the larger industry though, you specify and order the account, and the stats which youp refer, with the business specifying the limits. Really, it can be quite profitable for the account farmers, I don't see a reason why they shouldn't do this.
Zaaps1
Maybe, but this has been going on for a while. But face it, Jagex can stop unbalanced trades, but they can't stop this. At least with buying gold there were extreme options that could be taken, the only thing I can think of to be done here is what banks do, look up your personal information and ask. ~It's Super Effective! theidiot11
I got it guys, the solution to this is quite simple really. All you have to do is limit the amount of exp to the same amount of the max you can trade. For example, if you havent done any quests, you can only get 3,000 exp in each skill each day, but if you have more than 200 quests points, then you can get 30,000 in each skill each day. This will stop account selling for good, because you cant raise up your stats super quickly. It may seem like this idea is bad, but it will stop account selling, which has been putting a huge impact in EVERYONES gaming experience since the begging. Im now going to crunch the numbers. With 30k exp a day, it will only take 434 days to reach level 99 in one skill. Since 30k is such a low amount, you could continue to raise every skill by 30k exp a day! In just over a year, you could still max out your skills, which has taken most people 5 years to do! Quite amazing actually! You can actually max faster using this method! TIme for another number crunch. There is 26 skills in the game ( i think) so times that by 30,000! Thats 780,000 exp, which is almost a mill exp a day! I could normally only dream of getting that much, so its no deficit there! Again, this time with 3,000 exp, no quests completed. TIME TO CRUNCH THOSE NUMBERS!!!! It will only take 4333 days to get 99 in everything! Thats only about a decade to get everything, but besides, So many quests are important like the rune mysteries quest, so this number should be alot less, everyone should just have their quest points ready! Start doing your quests, This is almost garunteed to be a future update!
FooK-A-Ji
Account selling will not really affect the economy. Considering you order an account with 99 mining and pay $100 extra for having the coal banked, it can seriously affect the economy.
Igor
Yeah, I think they will jsut start selling accounts now, and we will have to deal with level 126 (or 138 :XD: ) 12 year olds. Oh noes! If a man is not a worker, he is nothing.BOSS.
aj926
I doubt this could affect anything, the profit margin would be waaay less. The only profit I could have seen in this would be pures, but the wilderness is nonexistent now.
xsakuraxx
Account selling will not really affect the economy. I'm not sure about that. I do think massive account selling would effect the economy somehow. If the people who conduct account selling are able to rapidly produce and sell accounts, that might mean a big increase of those xp farmers playing runescape. And same with the bots, there would be many of those accounts taking up raw materials to train those accounts. Raw materials may then be harder to obtain and cause prices to increase. But that's just my right-off-the-head thought. Account selling/trading has been going on for a while though. And I'm sure Jagex would be able to solve the problem if massive xp farming does happen. I would only be able to earn 3k xp per day. And I'm not an xp farmer :\ It would put many people off Runescape, and it would cause everyone who is remaining (not many) to become members to do the quests etc. F2P | 59/70 smith | 13/15 skills 70+ | 70 smith banked. purelime
no your wrong. cant u see that jagex will add free to play quets? they will make even f2p to get up to 200 points. besides he said the amount is in each skill, not jsut 3k a day, 3k per skills. trust me this guys a genius
xsakuraxx
HEELLLOOOOOO I already have the solution, read up about 3 posts. Your idea does seem good but what about free players? They can get only so many quest points. With having to get more than the max quest points you can get on free to play to lower the trading limit, free to players, epically the free to play skillers, would have some trouble if they want to make more than 3K xp on each skill. Why? Jagex haven't added a new f2p quest for over 3 years. They wouldnt do that. No that idea wont work. you assume everyone wants to train everything. What if i happen to like range but thats about it. i can train for like an hour a day and then i have nothing to do? its not even worth considering. Christ this idea's a bit like sleeping bags was only even more badly thought out and stupid. I doubt enough people would want this service for it to be profitable, it will most likely be easier for the farmers to just move to an easier game

brainymidget
I don't think this will be a problem. Jagex can see what IP you log in from and if you log in from china and then the next day log in from the US, they're gonna know theres a problem and ban you. Maybe you could appeal by saying you have a friend in China who was using your account, well them BAM! banned for account sharing.
