yeah, does just accessing the site give you a keylogger? I heard people discussing it in the tipit chat. I'm panicking now. changedpass ith onscreen keyboard. I'm scared now.

I'm pretty certain it doesn't, just tries to fool users into entering their username/password.

These people don't seem to have finished though so please be wary about clicking any link! If you are unsure, don't click it.

Head over to the Tech board if you need help with any virus scans/ etc.....

Oh god, I remember when I didn't know about this thing. Worst 3 months of my life (happened last year). I was really arrogant and overconfident with my security one day when browsing the forums, and I saw some guy saying "selling acc" or whatever. I noticed the supposed forum.runescape link on there, and went to see the nub getting pwned by the RSOF mods. I stared at the odd formatting for a minute and then I'm like "Oh ****...". After freaking out and having nightmares for many months after that, I'm way more cautious about my internet saftey. Use WOT (Web of Trust, similar to McAffe SiteAdvisor but a lot better), NoScript, ABP, and everything else I can get to protect myself.

EDIT: Yea, to those posts above, I panicked too. It instantly gave me a keylogger, not a scam login. Passwords to everything (Facebook, Bank, School...all that stuff), and no privacy to change. I'd get rid of it ASAP.

I didn't get any keyloggers detected, and I have quite a few triggers, at least one of which would have been set off if there was one trying to get on my computer.

I think it's just a simple scam where they have the usernames and passwords stored on a database (or something similar), and as people enter the passwords in, the username and password gets saved as an entry, and then the scammers reference that database and decide if they want the account or not. Simple scam really, but one that can dupe the unsuspecting.

What a douchebag. What does he hope to get out of this? Just jollies from causing other people grief? You can't transfer items due to the trade limits...

For a forum with so many intelligent users, I'm surprised that many got hacked. It's so obvious that it isn't RuneScape, yet people still click and enter their passwords. What a shame.

If you're referring to the link on post one, that's not the actual link. It's just showing what it looks like. If you click on it, you will be led to an invalid website.

I don't see how it's 'so obvious' that it isn't Runescape. On the page itself there are very few flaws and you'd have to be very accustomed to the real homepage to pick up on them. The link also looks real. Of course, if you hover over it you will see it's not really the link it appears to be, but not too many people do that for every single link they click on. This isn't your average scam site.

It's not clever. They copied colors and figured out how to do CSS, and write to a database or other file on a server...I could probably put together a decent scam site by the weekend if I really wanted to (and didn't have school lol), all I need is a host and the domain registration, which is easy to find.

Well I was an idiot earlier on and clicked on the link (not having noticed this thread at the time and not paying much attention) but did not entered any details(forum link wouldnt ask for it, and I dont have Java installed on FF) it appears it is only a social engineering scam. Virus scanner showed nothing and my HJT log is clear.
there are no stupid questions
just way too many inquisitive idiots
balance is scary to people who like things easy for them

I hate these types of people. Why can't people just leave these forums alone. Just because we are the best forum doesn't mean we should be attacked.

Hope it all works out Kota.

Kota, just fantasize and pray and try to relax.
