  1. I'm not sure how back patting helps asthma, though it's a brilliant way to kill people who are choking (it's generally only used on infants because they are easy to put into a slightly upside down position, and you can quickly roll them to alternate back slaps with chest compressions. It's also used for people with cystic fibrosis, but again, they need to be somewhat inverted or it sends stuff into your lungs rather than out). I think cellphones in at the movies in general are quite annoying. I've always considered it just a little bit sad that they even have to say things like please don't talk, and please don't text, and turn your stupid phone off.
  2. Wikipedia. This is the part where people start wondering why I even know these things, and I start wondering that too  Link I'm not sure why we set our 'romeo and juliet' laws so low, though we did have a relatively low age of consent to begin with (especially for the developed world I think). It seems to be a very specific case of the law accepting reality and working with it, so I'm pretty happy with it.
  3. The lowest age of consent in Canada (we have 3 brackets) is 12. We have another at 14, and at 16+ it's all fair game here. I assume Quebec is different, because they always are. Actually, looking at the graph I posted again, the rule seems a lot more reasonable when you can see it being applied to both sides at once. That actuallyu does seem to line up pretty nicely with the social norms, especially considering the rules is more than half a century old.

Huh, so I'm not the only one. Like Kaida, I have a contact allergy to it. It doesn't even need to rub, I can tell if a fabric contains wool simply by touching it (which would be a useful skill in general if it didn't feel like fire ants after 15 seconds). I have a couple part wool sweaters that I can deal with if I wear a short sleeve shirt under them, though I wont wear them for extended periods because it does get really irritating as time goes on. Got my Logitech g600 mouse for Christmas. Once I become proficient with it, it should be like having 3 hands since it can delegate a lot of the keyboard selection stuff to the right thumb and ring fingers. I also got a giant Razor mouse pad as a surprise bonus, which I can't argue with. A bigger mouse pad would be nice. I also got clothes (I always though getting clothes would suck, then I got older and now I appreciate it), a lot of books, and some other odds and ends I wanted, including a sort of home course on how to argue and reason (I also have some on stats and probabilities). And of course, the obligatory Toblerone bar in the stocking, which I noticed today is 75% of a kilo, or more than a pound of chocolate. This is how all chocolate bars should come. Big enough to bludgeon a small child, or feed one for a few days. I'm sure I'm forgetting things, but it's been a very lovely day, and we had a great visit from my first cousin once removed and her husband. Think we had them here for about 8 hours. And I got a book called "How to tell if your cat is plotting to kill you" or something very close to that. Very funny.

IU've not played Endless Space since the beta ended (just haven't gotten back around to it yet), but I quite liked it. Reminded me a lot of Galactic Civilizations, which in turn is quite similar to classic civilizations.

I don't mind wool layers too much, but I can't stand the feeling of it touching my skin. I always need something else between me and it. Gift unwrapping done (established tradition of turns, taking your time, and not starting until after breakfast which normally means after noon. Think I got everything I wanted, and a couple things I didn't know I wanted until now
  7. I've been considering far cry 3, but I think it's a case of all games that I watch a lets play of look whether its a game I would like or not. As a general rule, I don't like FPS, so probably a bad idea I'll stay away from. I do like third person though. Most recent new game is Metro 2033, which I picked up for free on the FB promotion. Hard game. It's schooling me, but it's kind of neat, especially for a FPS.

Got myself Carrier Commander since I see they patched the laughable pathfinding, hopefully above the lever where 'I want to make little models of all the craft and hit them with a hammer'. We'll see. Anno 2070 might be the other purchase. Not sure yet, still have some time to decide. Or I could be reasonable and leave it at what I have now.
  9. Please...not the freaking acronyms. Just spell it out and we'll figure it out from there. And do you actually know any girls who want to sleep with men who are 250%+ their age? (discounting every case where the man is wealthy/famous or the girl is being paid). You say they exist (because I distinctly remember you saying you'd still be bedding girls in their 20's when your in your 50's), yet I'm pretty sure we don't live in the same dimension, or your massively overestimating how attractive you'll be post middle age crisis and into the early geriatric phase.
  10. I know some people end up eating ridiculous amounts of food to be polite, including more than one dinner in a day. I've never had that problem though, mostly because I have no obligations that would see me seeing two different houses for multiple meals. We have always been host on Christmas, and often on Boxing Day as well. Suits me just fine.

I've never heard anyone say scimitar with a hard C ('Skimitar'). Things are going along nicely. Wen't to a different church this year, which is closer and had a shorter service, as well as starting sooner, so we are home earlier than I can ever remember in my living memory. Normally it's in about 3 hours from now. Supper is being cooked as I type, then it's the Grinch followed by a Charlie Brown Christmas. Merry Christmas everyone!
  12. Favorite Christmas songs of the season: A Capella version of 12 days of christmas. The only version of the song I can stand, and is really really good if you listen to the ending. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbaRoNFBNcY For this one, it helps if your familiar with their tekkit series. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJezMI2ibH0

Did this thanks to a friend of mine letting me know. I haven't played it yet, which is also keeping me from buying things now. I actually have a game backlog that is more than a game long now, and I always swore I would never turn into one of those people who buys games they don't play.
  14. Hard to say. Most people who are trying to make a point don't need to kill tens or hundreds of thousands of people to do it, not when there are much easier methods that are more than enough to get peoples attention. So it could just be a matter of convenience and simplicity as well. In terms of gaining support for a cause, yes, social norms would become more important. Few people are going to side with the guys using nuclear weapons, VX, or anthrax as their weapon of choice. They aren't the weapons of a cause, they are the weapons you use when you want to commit genocide. There is also my theory of time. Making a nerve agent takes a long time. You don't decide you want to kill a thousand people and cook up some nerve gas in an afternoon. You need time to plan, and set up the manufacture and aquire the resources. This is where I think making it much harder to aquire certain weapons would reduce their use. If something is really difficult to get hold of, and you really want to kill someone right now, your probably going to go with the most lethal object that is immediately available to you, be it an M-16, a 9mm pistol, a 6 inch hunting knife or a baseball bat. If your a bit more patient, that you can scale up the time to what you can get your hands on in say 2 days. Interesting side note, I was listening to a bit of a debate the local news station was holding last night, about whether Canada should disarm all private citizens. It wouldn't get rid of all the guns, you'd still have hunting rifles, and the illegal weapons on the street, but it makes it very difficult for the kid getting bullied to snap, take dads gun to school, and start shooting the place up. Thought is was kind of an interesting idea myself.
  15. Honestly, I'm not sure. I expect it's mostly the same reason people don't build fertilizer bombs (which always seemed pointless anyway seeing as tannerite is legal and reasonably effective), which coincidently is also an ingrdient in Sarin and VX (phosphorus). Fluoride is another one that is hard to stockpile I expect. Most of the people who would use a nerve agent are (hopefully) under some level of surveillance. By the time it's not easier to just just a gun, you do need a fair amount of the stuff. Sarin at least is also super volitile. I think you have less than a day to use it once you turn it into actual Sarin (though I believe it can be stored as two easily mixed and stable binary compounds). There is also something to be said for trying to take the moral high ground when using this kind of weapon. It's like how using a nuke to save a bunch of rainbow unicorns still automatically makes you the bad guy. You can't use a weapon that mass kills indiscriminately and often painfully and think your in the right unless your brain is seriously broken (by our standards at least). You'd probably have to be either crazy fanatical, or totally sociopathic to use this stuff.
  16. If your going to legalize everything, nuclear weapons probably aren't what you need to worry about. If someone wanted to take out maximum people for minimum effort, your looking at chemical warfare. Sarin would probably be your best bet in terms of lethality to difficulty. If your a real big shot, VX is probably the most dangerous thing we've ever invented that isn't a militarized virus or a larger nuclear warhead. Legalizing everything is probably not a good idea when your average crack head has a decent shot at whipping up some nerve gas.
  17. As I understand it, for people who do believe in first sight, such a thing is possible. However, I don't, which apparently means it can't happen to me, so my experience is limited to lust at first sight. Moving on, if your looking for a girl you have feels for, and your not going to have sex first, then your probably in the wrong place. If your going to go down the path of conventional courting and getting to know each other, the bar has a poor ratio of like minded people, so your better off meeting girls in just about any other activity where you have more opportunity to hit it off first, and then start dating.

If you shower in the evening, you might try swapping to the morning. Wet hair is a bit more cooperative. Doing that, you can probably make it 6-8 weeks between cuts at least if its reasonably cooperative. You could also gel/or wax your hair a bit to help make it do your bidding, and stay that way. I know a couple guys who pretty much just brush their hair with gel. Done right, it's not particularly noticeable (it also depends on the gel you use) unless your touching their hair.

Cut to a nice length so that it takes all of 10 seconds care in the morning?
  21. You're not suggesting that getting pregnant and choosing to keep the baby isn't her fault are you? Because she's fully responsible for that. Not at all. I mean that it's not her fault that she can't understand the repercussions of the choice to keep the child. She doesn't have the life experience, the perspective, or the mental development required to really understand the gravity of the situation and what this will mean for both her and her child considering a time span that is decades long. She will however have plenty of time to think on all the choices she has made leading up to her present situation, regardless of the support she gets and how she deals with having a child.
  22. She'll receive justice and a half for her choice, whether she claws her way to a better life for her and her child or not. It's not really her fault. Making someone at that age understand the gravity of the situation is going to go as well as teaching your dog to play Halo 4 with you. As for supporting your friends...no, I think there is a limit. I think there comes a point where even if you will always try to help them in whatever situation they happen to find themselves in, you have to take a step back and realize that your friend is making a terrible choice and not endorse it. Be there for them, keep the 'I told you so' to yourself, but don't tell them it was the right decision either, not if you really believe it wasn't. Anyhow, uncontrolled children annoy me. Got back from a family get together, and my youngest cousins on that side (who I suppose would be once removed, not being of my generation) are running around, jumping, hitting, and screaming to the point where you keep hearing surges in volume of general conversation as people sitting next to each other struggle to hear themselves speak. The parents only acknowledge the children if they either either clawing each other or literally screaming, and do jack to try and calm them down. I'm sure the older people in attendance love the prospect of being knocked over so they can break a hip, and I'm sure the neighbors in the next apartment down were thrilled when one of the girls walked around in a healed shoe twice the size of her foot (BANG BANG BANG) for a full minute before her mother even noticed.

Both the Hit Man and Tom Clancy franchises are massive amounts of money off. The idea of getting more rainbow six is tempting, but the latest game was reportadly a pretty big jump up (nothing like playing with an AI team that is better at the game than you will ever be). Might also be a good time to finally try out hitman. However, if I had to take a bet on what game I might cave to first, based on my choices, I think my money is on Sim City 4. Or perhaps Tropico instead. I had my eye on that before I think. I'll probably just wait though, see where this goes.

I forgot the world was supposed to end. Apparently the calculations might be off by a few days, so you probably want to wait for Christmas or Boxing Day morning to be sure  Starting to get marks back. C in Calculus is the worst so far, and I think I can live with that. I figure stats should be higher since I had a much better midterm in stats than calc. Economics were a B and B-, again, not quite what I wanted, but nothing I'll be getting bent out of shape over anytime soon. Surprised computer isn't back yet, it really should have been first. Expecting a B- for stats, maybe a B, and an A in programming if not better.
