Today...
Today I realize that my hard rives are backwards form the way they should be for best performance. As it is, I keep all my media files, which are the bulk of the data I keep, on my second hard drive, because that's why I got it (it used to be the external drive for my laptop, not it lives in my PC). Because of the space used, I keep all my games on my primary hard drive, and I shouldn't do that. Looking at some troubleshooting for D3, it occurs to me that there is potential for games to suffer if they need to draw data quickly from the hard drive, and it is already in use by another program. By having the games on the second drive, which is only in use when I watch movies and listen to music, there would never be any conflict. EDIT: I am actually just going to link the files that are the problem to the other HDD. Most of the time the game works fine, which means that the hard drive is fast enough, except when windows needs it for a few seconds. The second HDD is always idle, so I can just run off there. If not, I'll make a RAM disk and move the biggest offender there, since RAM has an excellent RRT.

Sides of a car are supposed to be quite tough, otherwise no one on the impact side would ever survive their car being t-boned. No real structure between the outside skin of your truck and the forward crumple zone though (that would be the frame the engine is sitting in). All things considered, cars can take some pretty big hits without much damage when you consider how heavy they are, and how much force it takes to stop one quickly. sucks about your truck though, and even though its nice to clearly not be your fault, your still left wondering exactly what the other person was thinking and why you have to be in that situation. As another point of interest, if you are in a situation where you feel 'too safe', you'll be inclined to take risks to get back to normal levels. My point being, that volvo or bmw is more likely to do something stupid than that camry, because the former have better chances of walking away from an accident. Motorcycles on the other hand are driven by crazy people.

Diablo III
I started playing diablo 3 again, and I found this thread, and wondered what sort of wizards people were using that they died easily. Well, I got it through nightmare and now I understand. All my signature spells are worthless now, I simply don't have the base damage to back them up (1200). That's alright, I was leaning pretty hevily on disintigrate already in act 4 nightmare, so the point where I sometimes replaced a signature with frost ray for higher damage on single enemies. Also, archon stopped being an instant win botton at some point in act 4. In hell, archon is bordering on useless. 300% damage isn't enough to keep the stronger monsters from closing on me, which means I spend much of my time running away from uniques and champions releasing stuns and using diamond skin to tank for a few second, while thunderstorm attempts to pummel everything (which might be getting swapped out because it just doesn't any firepower anymore). On the plus side, I've been pushing my smith, and I have a wand that could save me (it has a +125 damage stat, and will more than double my firepower). But I have to get two more levels to use it, and I worry. I got unreasonably lucky getting the modifier I needed more than anything. It's a stop gap solution. Anything that can withstand it will tear me to shreds because it lacks the modifer currently keeping me alive, which is 1.7% damage dealt to health, though admittedly it was working a lot better in nightmare. Also, whoever invented the vortex attribute is evil, and same for whoever put time warp on a fast unique. There was also that lovely group of champions and their minions who all had mirror image. I'll hold out till get my wand that might be able to get me back in the game, but not sure if I'll make it through hell let alone inferno. Well, inferno is moot anyway because they designed it to force you to buy items, and I'm not going there.

Confidence building is really the only way I can see to go at it, and really that means that at some point your going to have to just put yourself in situations your not comfortable in, and keep doing it until you get the hang of it. For me, I had a lot of practice at summer camps, since I would have to make new friends for every camp. Sort of a sink or swim situation, though I have never had any anxiety talking to people, it's more of an enjoyment issue. At this point in my life, I actually really enjoy meeting new people. I've gotten fairly good at it, and it's a neat exercise. One of the things I learned on my way to not dreading things like parties is that I like to overestimate how terrible things will be. Knowing this, truly knowing it from my own experience I am now a lot more willing to put myself in uncomfortable situations because I have built up my confidence over time, and deep down I know things aren't going to be as bad as I think (the setting the bar low method). Of course, I have no idea how well this translates to other people.

Well aren't we the three stooges then  Apparently this is one of the great lessons that some of us just have to learn the hard way. And to think my mother always thought I would cut myself slicing the English muffins in half with a bread knife. Probably just as well she didn't know my prefered method was to hold them in my palm while doing it. The trick was that our bread knife was pretty hard to cut yourself with. In retrospect, still not a good idea. I guess rather than play with fire I preferred to tempt fate with sharp objects.

That actually makes me feel a bit better, knowing that someone else has done the same thing. For hamburgers, I found a better way that using a butter knife to pry them apart. get them to stand on their side and put the blade between them parallel to the counter, and smack the knife with your hand. Like splitting logs but easy. I do the same thing with hotdogs.

RS and Bandwith
Yeah, stay far away from the HD settings if your on a data budget. 720 is 3x the size of 480, and 1080 is 6.75x the size (screen area). Why a DVD holds nearly 5GB of data, while a blue ray disc holds 25 or 50GB.

Moisturizer would probably help. Sure I have some knocking around too. When I lost the skin I think it took about a week for the first layer of skin to fully cover over the wound, and maybe up to another week for the skin to go from pink to invisible (matched skin tone to tan), which would be about right. During the summer, it is not uncommon for my arms and legs to look like I lost a fight with a tree while running through the woods, so I normally end up with pink lines in my skin that take a few days to return to local skin color. The patch from the summer healed near perfectly. It might be a tad bit off if your really examine it, but considering that a half inch wide gap is a lot for skin to grow back over, I think it did a pretty nice job. In general my skin heals quite nicely. There is an inch long scar under my right eye which can only be seen by people who already know it exists (and it takes color, becoming even more invisible in the summer when I tan), even if it took 3-4 years to reach almost full on non-existence (it was perfect timing when I got it though. I had my stitches in for hockey camp ). And I have one from a knife going way to far into my thumb tip that only shows as a fain line/valley where the skin rejoined, which serves as a reminder to not pry apart frozen hot dogs with a steak knife (makes a very clean cut though). If dehydration is the issue now, then I have bigger fish to fry. I should be consuming between 1.5 to 3 litres of water per day, depending on the day, which should be enough. If its not, then something has gone wrong inside of me. On the plus side, the itchiness in the leg is gone, at least with the bandage covering it. Was only to the red dots phase, so in under a week the entire skin layer should be back.

Yeah, removeable batteries are nice. One of the problems I have with my blackberry is that every once in a while (like twice a year), the camera will loose its zoom ability for some reason. I have also had once incident where it stopped sending texts (or maybe receiving until I pulled the battery. I don't really mind, I sort of expect computers to start messing up if they don't turn off every once in a while. I normally pull the battery on my phone every month or two to keep it happy. And I just realized I am scratching through the skin on my leg, which isn't good. Already did that this summer and ended up wrapping a tensor bandage around my ankle both to sheild the 1-2 sq in of skin missing from the world, and to keep my from scratching at it more (or rather, to keep the scratching from doing damage). Looks like I might need to do that again for a couple days for my other leg now. Not good that my skin that itchy though, suggests something is wrong.

Economics: more or less government intervention?
Not that it matters at the end of the day too much, but the government can't ignore laws (not strictly true, but mostly true in the public eye). They would first have to change them to allow them to do what they want to do. If nothing else, it makes finger pointing a bit easier.

I suppose that Jagex getting the Pmod community involved is too much to ask for? Somebody's got to clean up the mess they left behind. Jagex's auto ban system currently goes after people who auto type for the rwt sites (visit worlds 1 or 2 in the ge to see the show). There are also some pmods who pick up the slack in the system (it has on days and off days, as they introduce new methods and jagex counters). When Jagex finally decides to turn this system on the gambling auto typers as well, I think you can expect the pmods to arrive in force, just as they did when during the phase when they were given permission to attempt to take back the grand exchange. If they can get it to the point where there are no reputable clans left, and its just scamming, then maybe, just maybe, they will unshackle their ban dragon and silver army.

Or heard of. When electronics get wet, there are two things that really help their chances of suvival. First, if they aren't on when they get wet, though I think some electronics now try to emergency power down (as in just cut power) if the moisture gets too high. Not sure if this can save them from immersion though. Second, make sure they are dry before they turn back on. This is where the rice helps. Rice is a desiccant, significantly speeding up the drying process. Give your electronics a day, maybe two, in rice before you test them.

Behind the Scenes: Special Edition
I am under the impression that 91 is the starting threshold for using the content, not the level needed to fully exploit it (I've seen both understandings knocking around). My guess would be that it gains benefits at least right up to say 97, if not right to 99.

Behind the Scenes: Special Edition
I am not excited about the tz-haar quest. It's not secret I don't enjoy quest fights, and I just really don't want to go through anything like the last one again for a while. Also, assuming very high to be the scale set by PoP, then I wont have the levels anyway (assuming very high to be 90+, though I figure its more like 85+). The construction overhaul on the other hand sounds fantastic. I love construction. I am also a bit more interested in ports now. On the one hand, I am picturing this as a cross between construction and MTK, but on the other this is apparently massive, which now has me imagining playing the Guild II in RuneScape (which would be interesting).

Economics: more or less government intervention?
I'm not sure how accountable our central bank is either. In it's independence, I think the government would have to pass legislation to actually change the staffing by force (since it is expressly set up to prevent them from doing that). That said, we really might not need ours. It's nice to have the throttle on the economy, but it's not required. It would be interesting to see if we would still be able to regulate as well as we did before the central bank in the present day world, though that is not an experiment I would care to be a part of. And you do want a little bit of inflation to encourage growth. If you can sustain a continuous and low level of inflation, it makes constant expansion possible, but prevents jacking the cost of living up fast enough to impact your earnings too much (it would help if all wages were adjusted annually, but they aren't, and so they are affected).

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
If you actually get into an argument with someone in the comment section of a youtube video, you already lost. There is no reason to actually go back and see if someone responded to you :P Why is the guy from community in that picture? I'm assuming it's funny based on something else he was in? I hate Meme's in general. There are a few that are amusing, but only a very small handful (by this I mean I have a weakness for monorail cat and face palm picard).

15th Nov - Evolution of Combat: Loyalty Shop Sale
On the contrary, I have a suspicion that they are doing such massive discounts because they are planning on shifting all the loyalty shop content over to Solomon's store. It's rather cynical to think so, but they haven't updated it in months and Solomon's store has pretty much replaced it with the exception of aura's. Either the shop was a primer to get us ready for the likes of Solomon or they thought it would have a bigger impact on membership than it did. Either way, it is obsolete, and there is no reason to devote time to it, when it wont make them any money. However, my hope is that the shop will be preserved, even if it is duplicated within Solomon entirely. And I don't think the bank boosters are coming. It sounded like they were doing it on their lunch break, and someone probably told them they couldn't, or the person who was going to code it got moved. Or they could just be waiting until everyone gives up and actually buys them, in which case hold out for like another 6-9 months I figure.

15th Nov - Evolution of Combat: Loyalty Shop Sale
Rawr. I spent like 25k points a couple days ago! No matter, I still have a decent stock of points, and this will give me a reason to spend some of them. Nice to see that they have not totally abandoned the loyalty shop yet.

Economics: more or less government intervention?
Suddenly I get the feeling that the Federal Reserve doesn't operate at all like the Bank of Canada. With the first major difference being that the Bank appoints it's own staff, not the government. The Government just tells them what their goal is (such as the switch from promoting full employment to the primary focus being keeping the inflation rate between 1-3 percent). In terms of accountability, not sure.

Economics: more or less government intervention?
Huh. Ours isn't (it's a crown corporation, making it an independent entity owned in this case, by the finance minister). Our governments used to borrow from them. Anyway, I took a step back and honestly I am totally out of my depth on the whole should the government bail people out or not. About the most solid opinion I can form is you probably shouldn't half ass it. Do it or not, but don't pull out halfway through or all you've done is incur massive debt. The economy can probably sort it out either way. As best as I can tell, if you pull off a government sponsored bail out and kick start, your economy will recover faster, but you'll accumulate more debt. If you let it be, you'll probably recover slower. Very difficult to say which is the better option I think, seeing as it's not exactly something we get to study often.

Economics: more or less government intervention?
I'll take another look at your counter argument again when I am more awake, but I would point out that at least for incomes in the 'middle class', by the time you are getting close to retirement the hope would be that you have a whole lot more than 200 grand saved away. I would also like to point out that confidence is a major factor in the value of a currency. If all of a countries banks go under, the value of your currency is going to take a pounding, which is a big problem for any industry that imports goods. And also a question, because either I missed this or this is one of the holes in my knowledge. Why would the banks need financial backing from the government in the first place. Why not just borrow from the federal reserve?

BTS#26 - Solo Dungeoneering
If I can, I will stick with my current setup of melee armour, melee weapon, and I guess SB gets replaced with a staff. I found the high level warriors had way to much def to be practical to go toe to toe with, and maging that way is faster for me. The real problem will be armour, since protect prayers can no longer cover all situations (I was set for melee and range, pray against mage). I think I am going to regret giving up my primal rapier afterall, as that, a staff, and a shield might be the way to go, so that I have access to the defensive abilities to compensate for the lack of prayer immunity.

Economics: more or less government intervention?
Those GSE's back mortgages from banks, allowing the banks to do other stuff with the money they would normally need to back up the mortgage. It doesn't matter if the firm backing everyones mortgages is a GSE or not. When a sub prime bubble ends, and everyone starts defaulting on the mortgage, the banks can't afford the losses, and neither can the backer. Quite simply, by the time they went out of buisness for being stupid, they would have taken your entire banking system with them, GSE or not. That's why they weren't allowed to go under not because they are GSE's, but because every american bank involved in the sub prime buisness was in danger of going under, taking all their clients savings and investments with them. Even if they weren't GSE's, the government would have had to bail them out to prevent a mass run on the banks, and sending much of the country into extreme poverty.
