Today...
Got a splinter. Easiest one to remove ever, since it went in, and then the leading tip came right back through the skin. Had to pull pretty hard to get it through though because of the shape. Never really got down to living skin, so it didn't really hurt, but there was a red line where it went in where it truly broke the skin so I figured I would hydrogen peroxide the cut just in case. Normally you would use normal hydrogen peroxide, which is 7%, but that was in the kitchen and I was in my parents bathroom cause they have the good tweezers that I needed. My Mom also keeps food grade hydrogen peroxide there, which is 35% (which is 5x as strong), and I thought I would give that a shot. Really glad it was only this think little scratch that wasn't even leaking any blood. I would hate to think what 35% feels like on a real cut. The first 5 seconds were okay, and then it starts getting into the wound, and after about 15 seconds its like a small fire is under your skin. Still tolerable, until I realized a minute had gone by and it wasn't getting better, so I washed it out with water. Its also strong enough to bleach your skin. Most of my skin where it made contact managed to resist it, but the entire splinter wound went snow white. Takes a while for your skin to recolor itself. The morale of the story is that you should never use food grade hydrogen peroxide on an open wound unless your one of those people who enjoys pain. If you enjoy pain, then it should make you very happy (I still wouldn't use it on a really large wound though, since its probably concentrated enough to start doing serious damage if it gets into the blood stream)

Age Reversal
Religion was an interesting point, and lithe as I am to draw attention to it here, because I've had my fill, I would like to point out that not all life forms on earth suffer from senescence (cellular old age). I think its only known to exist in either very simple life, or in cold blooded animals (so there aren't any immortal mammals known to us). Lobsters are thought to be one of these creatures, since they become increasingly fertile with age, and only seem to die when they either suffer physical injury, or succumb to disease. It is thought that if you could prevent either of these things from happening to them, they could probably indefinitely will no ill effects (physically) from age. My point being it doesn't defy the natural order (well, it does for us) because there are a few life forms on Earth that simply don't ever die of old age. It is suspected that in the case of lobsters, and other 'immortal' creatures, that they constanly rebuild the telomeres on their genetic code which would allow their cells to multiply indefinately without any ill effect, and by keeping them long, might also prevent cancer, since cancer tends to be found in individuals (humans) who have shorter telomeres. Eventually, the cells of most animals become unable to reproduce when they don't have enough telomere left to protect the part of a chromosone that actually contains information (in computers, if you had a copying system that removes the last 8 bits off any copied data, you could build in a long string of say zeroes at the end which mean nothing, and are just sacrificial so that the data can be copied many times before you start losing data). There are ways around it I think, but they lead to very high cellular mortality and rapid corruption of the genetic code, until there is not enough information left to produce a viable cell anymore. The resource issue should be obvious. Either we would have to stop reproducing entirely, or eventually there are going to be too many people. It might take a very long time, but it will have to happen eventually if the number of people alive is constantly rising. On the other hand, we are doing an excellent job of making that problem a reality without the aid of immortality. Some other issues: - Crimminal system. As mentioned, this would make life sentances in particular a huge problem (if its literal) since it makes it ludicrously expensive (this would happen across the board as all sentences get lengthened), and will lead to an even larger crowding crises than the one we are already facing. In short, the death penalty will probably stop being optional because no one wants to actually pay for someone to sit through their 300 year sentence (which by the way are things that really exist today. You don't need to change anything, because those are already very real). -Social issues which I don't care to get into right now. Other people are covering that nicely. -A different social issue where if you think death is devestaing to people now, think about how much worse its going to be when a child is robbed of their 3,000 years, or your wife of 2,000 dies. When other people die (because other people will still die to disease and violence), it is going to be a whole lot worse, because it will be an even larger tragedy. It will also breed a culter where we will at least for a time, be terrified of death, because it will become an even less accepted part (and risk) of our lives. -Not that we aren't already messing with it, but this will halt evolution (we mess with it by defying natural selection and allowing people that would have died of their genetic defects such as myself, to live and potentially procreate. With everyone living, all the mutations get kept and the best genes are not being preserved). Now, if we don't procreate, this wont kill us, but it will still keep our biology from advancing, and that might kill us when things like diseases which already evolve as if everything else is at a standstill have a few thousand years to work out something that our immune systems can't deal with, and our medicine can't keep up. And as a last point, there are biological problems besides age that mess you up when you live too long. Everyone here has probably lived long enough to notice that years go by faster the older you get, and even hours in the day might seem shorter. An hour for me seems to be about half as long (or less) than when I was half my current age. That doesn't stop. The older you get, the more time flies by. You also run into the fact that the brain doesn't have a delete system for its memory, and at some point it is going to get bogged down. We are potentially capable of storing a lot more information in our heads than we can actually deal with, and sooner or later your brain is going to get clogged up, and everything is going to blur together. Our brains were not built to accommodate unlimited life, and sooner or later, if they get the chance, it is going to get really messy as your brain has to try and cope with thousands of years of memories, and all the accociations that come with them, which will eventually slow your cognative processes down as your brain has to go through ever expanding piles of data to make a decision on anything. Oh, and suicide will have to become legal, because sooner or later, we are going to get tired of living, and we are going to be ready to die.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
I would just like to voice my objection to trying to horn in someones relationship. If you don't respect her enough to respect her relationship, then do you really think you should be with her? Now, if she actually makes a move on you, that's different (though you should probably evaluate the wisdom of being with a girl who started seeing someone else before breaking it off, because that's probably going to cause trust issues for you one day if you stay together long enough). You just need to keep in mind that you are only going to be able to see what you want to see, and if you get it wrong you are going to piss her off something fierce. @Low Levelled You can either try to use enough diplomacy to try and make controlling behaviour not look like controlling behaviour, or you can take a totally different (and not controlling) route, and start off by not 'talking' to other people. This would seem to be a reasonable way to signal how you would like things to go, and see if she follows suit or talks you about it. Or, going back to talking, you could go for point blank and just tell her that you want to get serious about the relationship. Keep in mind that she might not be ready for that yet. If she isn't, then there will really be no point in sticking together. Either she will be ready, or she wont, and there isn't a damn thing you can do to change it.

The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
I like the part where I think I am garunteed full access to the beta by virtue of a long membership run. Wasn't really expecting anything like that. I half expected them to only allow new members in as a promotional  But seriously, sort of excited, though I don't appreciate all the hype so far out. I am not the most patient person for this sort of thing, so I need to compensate by not allowing myself to get excited. I'm now my own kill joy :D

Diablo III
I think that gives me the damage for my left click attack, which currently just leaves at least two more that dont. That's somewhat irritating, but I can live with it.

Diablo III
I feel like I am missing something. In diablo II I culd bring up the stats screen which would tell me what both of my currently equipped attacks would do (damage wise). Right now all I have to go on is the damage percent change (or I can do the math if I want to minimize the game and look up the damage multipliers for my skills), which doesn't work when comparing 2 handed weapons to 1 handed when my off hand has a damage stat of its own, either in strait damage or by buffing a stat. In short, I don't know how to open the stat screen, and I am hoping I am just missing something really obvious and that it does in fact exist and give me the damages for all my skills. I am also not entirely impressed that the damage multipliers are not listed in any of the skills, since that requires me to either look them up online, or find the stat screen I can't find and keep checking it after I change my skills. In this one respect, the game has taken a step backwards in usability. I also like how I got to like level 6 wizard before using a different weapon, because I forgot that my spells are a damage multiplier of whatever I have in my hand. I do prefer wands though since they seem to be the only one handed magical weapons, and they still have a ranged blast if I try to cast a secondary attack without any arcane power, rather than swinging a staff or whatever at the air like a [wagon]. I also can't wait to have a few more runes so that some of the other spells become useable for my style. I really like the arcane orb so far for its pure crown control potential. And with the first rune, its still my highest damage output skill anyway, though I can only cast 3 times in a row. Anyway, off to take a look at the game guide again

Today...
If I may ask, and please feel free to tell me to mind my own business, I'm just being nosy... My impression was that you are bi. Did I misunderstand or is there a preference one way or the other? Given your past experiences that you have written about, I can see why you might not be too keen on going with any girls again, though looking at it logically, it would seem that life in general might be easier if you went with a girl, just because of the prejudice your going to encounter. Then again, I guess its not really something that you control so its a moot point. And I got confused because I read 'mother' as 'dad' (because my brain is awesome). I guess it wasn't exactly a shocker for her. Anyway, good luck with that. Kind of reminds me of one of my cousins situations. I figure at least part of the family knows hes gay by now, though I haven't heard of him coming out to anyone (its purely observational). The problem there is my grandfather. I think everyone else is perfectly fine with it, but I don't think my grandfather would be. I doubt he will ever be told though. Unless he gets married, its probably an ignorance is bliss situation. On a side note, on that side of the family we are the only two of our generation who are not married yet, and I think I am going to beat him to the punch on that one, even if I take a few more years. On the other side of the family, I am one of four left unmarried, but that will be down to three by halloween. Then there are 6 more in the next generation down counting both sides, but they all have a ways to go yet (the oldest being like 7 or something like that).

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
Huh, I actually thought I was in the today thread (I guess it happens to all of us sooner or later). I actually have a set of very nice headphones. The only problem with them is that they block my normal hearing making it harder to tell when people are near my door, which is something I dislike. I also can't sleep with them in because they extend outside of the ear a bit and really dig in if I sleep in any position but on my back looking strait up.

One of the side effects of moving out of my house for a bit is that my stereo does not come with, and my computer monitor doesn't have speakers. Fortunately I have these two little 2" speakers that have the approximate sound quality of my blackberry (that's quality for the same volume), and they run off AA batteries. Not the best solution ever, and I naturally can't use them to run a movie all night without burning batteries. But they will do for gaming, and with my hard drive here, I can always put movies on the playbook and have it run them, which incidently also has higher quality speakers, not that it matters at such a low volume.

Diablo III
If you really wanted to though, you could take that game apart and rebuild it to not require the Internet I think. Not easy, so it certainly wouldn't happen often, but it can be done. Anyway, my particular problem is a firewall issue. Maybe I never had the laptop playing long enough to notice. I need to learn the port triggering I think, in addition to the forwarding, but in the mean time I have a workaround that can't be any riskier than connecting my PC right to the modem. Does mean I need to access the router every time I want to play though. And I think like consoles, I might stop buying pc games for a while. At least until they work the kinks out.

Diablo III
So now I am experiancing the joys of always online DRM. I'm guessing the wireless is somehow the problem, but I set up a continuous ping that showed I never lost connection, even when the game claims I did. I am now getting booted out of the game every 2-4 minutes, yet as far as I know this is a perfectly stable conection. It plays runescape, it handles downloads without any interuption, and the ping never breaks. I don't think I like Blizzard anymore. If this is how their games are going to run, I'm never buying from them again. Oh, and it worked just fine when I was testing it on my laptop. It's just now that I've paid for it, on my much more capable PC (that was also running it just fine, though on a different network) that the game has stopped working.

Today...
Nutella is gross. Peanut butter all the way. And something I forgot to post a while ago, if your finding yourself really thirsty all the time for no apparent reason (ie your not sweating, and your not on a medication that has cotton mouth as a side effect), that's the sort of thing that is worth mentioning to your family doctor the next time you see them (and if your finding yourself needing to pee all the time, but in small volumes, then you might consider making an appointment sooner rather than later). And I finally retrived my PC and brought it out to my parents, which is good, though I would still rather be in town most of the time because its a bit more convenient for my social life. Ah well. And my parents have ruled that I can't start taking the roof of the cottage (their building a new on in its place, because the current one is slowly losing a fight with nature and gravity from sheer neglect on the part of its former owners), because of the chances that the roof joists themselves might give out and drop me inside, which could be a pretty bad situation. I need to wait until my Aunt and Uncle are down so that there is someone around in case I get injured and can't call for help. Makes sense, though I am also a bit anxious to get started on that.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
Not meaning to be insulting, and I'm guessing you don't mind or you wouldn't have said it, but your very light (for your height). And in general, for a guy, height is an advantage. At least for people in the average height range for their gender, the preferance is normally someone who is taller (girls) or someone who is shorter (guys). The tall girls and short guys obviously don't get to be as choosy because of the limited options (where short and tall defined relative to the average for their gender). Not sure how it applies to people past like 6'1" (which is like the upper end of what the world was built to accommodate, at least in North America), but I can't imagine it being an issue for most girls. If anything, it just enhances the primal protector role (because our subconscious minds are not all about gender equality).

Jagex's customer support.
Sometimes I am very impressed with their support. I do have one story in particular, which if nothing else proves that they have at least a couple of really awesome people working for them. My teeth nearly fell out when our clan leader shared the email he got as proof. On a more public front, they have been making a great effort to increase their presence in customer support, and in the account help section of their forums where most issues are now handled by jmods. They are also willing to support and work with player initiatives aimed at helping other players (as in actually working with jmods to help sort out the technical issues and allow things to be done which can't be done without their direct support. This is probably the only area of their company I am totally impressed with right now, and I hope they keep going in this direction (of being helpful), because until recently its been quite abysmal.

Minecraft General
So how grid does one of those map items cover? I normally stick to one of those, because I dislike travel time (though I can always set up a portal system if need be), and because I've never figured out how to get a new map going rather than just wandering off it.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
Like it or not, I think your waiting till colledge. If you have a job over the summer, while I seriously suggest not falling for people you work with if you can help it, if your working with people your age, it might give you access to another social circle or two (for the summer) to help keep you occupied (your job should be doing this during the day). The one thing I will say about the prom, is that most people are going to be couples, and sometimes its awkward being a friends pair surrounded by people who are more than that. I had two proms in a manner of speaking. I had mine, which was a class afair/party (which also happened to fall on my birthday and was a total blast), and I attended my friends which was more conventional, as a just friends thing. I'd say starting around 1am I really started wishing that I was there with someone who was more than a friend. It probably depends on how much that kind of thing bothers you though. Me, I have a bit of a jeleous streak for that kind of thing.

RPG, you brought that upon yourself by being foolish enough to keep her number in your phone, or even for just using your phone after getting drunk. That said, not a bad story. Bees don't bother me unless I am mowing the lawn or weeding dandelions, in which case I would just as well avoid making them think I am attacking them. Their pretty easy going though. Not even sure we have hornets. I think just bumbles, honey bees, yellow jackets, and one or two smaller and fairly unagressive social wasps. Also, hornets tend to be less aggressive than wasps. The weather here ridiculously good, and now I have a sun burn.

Today...
I know of three insects with a painful bite you might find in north america. Wasps and hornets can both bite, though its very rare for a wasp to do so (though I was bitten by one once). Hornets are more inclined to do so, possibly doing a 2-for-1 where they both bite and sting at the same time (because nature hates you and wants you to suffer). Sounds more like a horse fly though. Our local variety is the deer fly, and their bites are quite painful (probably similar to a yellow jacket sting). If you are allergic to their saliva, it can certainly make you feel shitty for a while.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
It is somewhat irritating that eating healthy is considerably more expensive than just eating. In the long run, we all shoot ourselves in the foot since while you might not strait up die of malnutrition, it can easily reach levels in certain areas where it will most certainly give you trouble later on. Now that summer is coming back, I am reminded just how much I can hate nature, specifically wasps and the larger biting flies. Bee's are okay, and even most of the wasps are (for now), but soon we will have the yellow jackets, and my job for the summer right now is taking down a cottage, and they are certainly going to be trying to nest in it. I don't deal well with wasps, especially when I am alone.

Diablo III
I've given the game a test spin on my laptop, and like it so far. It's limited though since my laptop can only barely handle it, so playing with low frame rate and pauses. Final verdict will come from my PC which will have no problems running it, though it might be a while before I can do that.

[Steam] Kerbal Space Program - Update 0.22: Career Mode!
I wonder if this will make the game stable for me again. My computer has a seeming issue with the C7 stuff in particular. Disappointed that docking got left out though. I guess I'll find out next time I get some time with my PC. Looks good though!
