  1. Those aren't even things I would even really consider cooking. That's just basic human skill. That's the stuff you do so you can actually get to cooking. And how do you not know you need water for pasta? I was making kraft dinner when I was like 8 (or younger). Around here, some schools used to have cooking classes. Some still do I think, but only in rural areas. Apparently everyone in suburbia needs to figure it out on their own, or stick with the microwave for the rest of their lives. All the life skills classes are in the rural schools (cooking, sewing, woodworking, metalworking. That stuff). Probably not an entirely unfair assumption.
  2. Based on their timeliness, I'm thinking more like bug testing and final feedback. Though for the testers to cause any real changes, I would have thought the beta test would a bit earlier. It also seems that they are picking testers at random? The sign up just led to the 'get members Page'.
  3. The first and only time I have done an elite, I mistakenly thought that they didn't give out those terrible special rewards (the ones you get in place of actually good clue rewards). Now I know better lol. Clues just aren't worth it (to me).

I love how most of it will be over the pacific ocean where its difficult for most people to enjoy. Oh well.

Yeah, I did more digging, and most of my fears are just me being confused. And while opening day crashes are expected and reasonable from a technical standpoint, I still don't agree with the concept of not being able to use something you paid for. And I feel a bit better about the time now. Glad to hear its just speed runners (figures).

What I am reading about the game is making me warry of buying it. Right now, I am not normally with my PC so its immaterial, I have to wait to play anyway so no sense getting it now. A few things have me bothered: [*]The first is the whole needing a constant connection to play single player, though I figure I can deal with that. If that'e where piracy has put us, then so be it. The problem is that it seems to keep going down (at least twice now I think), and for added hilarity it seems that it crashes all their games that use battle net (so WoW). I will not buy the game for sure until that stops happening though. [*]My first really big worry is how fast people are getting through the game, even accounting for the whole co-op aspect of single player. I probably couldn't get through act 1 of D2 much faster than that, even on a speed mission. Granted, the hold up was mostly needing more levels and just trying to find things in their mazes (catacombs anyone?), and my tendency to generally like being a level or two above where your supposed to be (which does slow things down a bit). Still, D2 was never a game I could just blast through, not without being in multiplayer, so now I need to figure out if other people are just that much faster than I am (which would be ideal), or if the game is legitimately shorter (which means I'm getting ripped off and potentially buying a parade of expansions). [*]My third gripe is that the game guide for the game is...well its wholly incomplete, which just seems lazy. I want to know what changed, because I'm getting the feeling that in addition to the skills just coming to you, and the new mechanic where weapons also determine magic damage (which I love), I am wondering if armor is even something you find, or if it just kind of upgrades. I really want to see how the game works before I go to it. I guess at the end of the day, I liked single player as well as multiplayer, and now it seems one has suffered at the expense of the other. I am also worried from my experience with sequels (AoE 3 and Red Alert 3) that they might have made just the wrong changes for me, and I am wary of short hack and slashes after force unleashed 2, which was probably the worst gaming experience I have ever had by the end (being hard in just the right places to make you repeat all the tedious stuff). That or Red Alert 3 which is just awful for someone who likes long and drawn out battles.
  7. I know I've brought this up before, but as soon as it hits close to 20 degrees Celsius outside, my room is like living in an oven. Past a certain point, it seems to just get up to 25+ I also get a super itchy back if I don't have something against it, which means I either have to be in bed or wearing a shirt. Since we had a nice warm day today, its once again to sleep on my bed with a fan running. The saving grace is that I have a nice cross flow fan which can get a good amount of air moving without making it sound like I am sleeping with a lead blower.

If you want random, the easiest and best example would seem to be radioactive decay, which as it stands right now, can not be predicted so that you know when an atom will split. We can predict with great accuracy the half life of decay, but not the event itself. Since computers are entirely incapable of generating a truly random sequence (since they are generated by an equation), it is not uncommon for applications that require true random (or as close as possible) to use an input from a system like radioactive decay, or some other truly random event to tweak the random number generator and make it wholly unpredictable. That would be the understanding under quantum mechanics and M theory.

A thought. I wonder if the European ban on the site affected the actual European backbone servers. The transatlantic cables that feed north american internet all run through Europe, so they might have effectively blocked our entire continent. Glad my BF knows a different site, I'll have to ask him what he uses tomorrow. Every time one of these sites has trouble I get the urge to start stockpiling. I don't think that should have happened though. I don't think the ISP's normally control the backbone servers (I'm not sure which companies take care of those). It's also possible that if you can specifiy a route, and this is what happened to us, some of the cables might still be landing in unblocked areas and you might be able to route around them.

My current interpretation, which I think was determined to be something I made up one day cobbled together from a few souces plus my own brand of logic... As a rough sketch, I believe that everything that has ever happened, and will ever happen, has already been mapped out by the cosmos and exists in a static state beyond our perception or comprehension. I do believe in free will, in so far as that our choices are our own, and they affect the universe in turn, but that the choices have already been made, and that the life experiance is understanding why we make the choices we make . Even if I get the whole super static state universe wrong, I also subscribe to one of the hidden variable theories (the one by David Bohm), which is an alternative to Quantum Mechanics (and therfore an alternative to chaos theory among other things). That one in particular because it provides the same answers and QM. Under hidden varriable theory, it would be possible to model the universe and make predictions given the right data and an absolute understanding of the universe, which would also include the ability to perfectly model human behaviour and development to the point where you could model the lives of people who aren't even born yet. I think it all appeals to my need to ultimately be able to understand everything, even if that dream will never be realized. I would just like it to be possible. Perhaps within my lifetime, I will see QM and its alternatives such as hidden varriable and M theory be developed, and perhaps I will even live to see one of them proven right (or maybe something totally different, as is so often the case in the history of science). I'm going to be every so slightly bummed out if it turns out chaos theory is right though  (which would mean a perfect universe model would be impossible, though you could probably still do very well on a more local scale with a small time span).
  12. It's even funnier that you know it doesn't block pornography. Packing annoys me. I'm usually pretty laid back about stuff, but when it comes to packing I start stressing like crazy. I always feel like I've forgotten something. I always do forget something. It the t ick is that of forget things you don't need. I've also found that the hierarchy for 'bad' driving seems to be pickup trucks (one of which is always involved in any accident around here), especially if it's been modified in any way. Next are souped up cars in general, and anything with 3 or more male teenagers. Next are minivans, then suv's, then sports cars. Saw an accident today between a pickup and van. Looked like the van pulled out and got tboned. Everyone seemed to be alrigt thought.

Back, since I've not been on this thread for a while. As a personal request, could we not turn every thread into a religious discussion? In fact, perhaps assume would like to make a religion three of his own (since he keeps bringing it up on every thread he posts on), so that people who want to talk about it can, and then we can be free to talk about other things on other threads. As it ties into the previous topic here, it is certainly a topic that drives people away from posting here (personal experience). IT has always been intimidating for me, even when I returned here and started posting on this thread, though I think by now I must have established myself here. Today my dad gave me a blackberry PlayBook. Stupid thing is, it browses faster than my laptop ev not when using my phone as a relay between tablet and router. Also the screen is big enough that I don't mind touch screen typing. Now I just need tablet sized pockets to carry the damn thing around. I would also like the ability to transfer files between the tablet and phone via bluetooth.
  14. I think the earth touched on it before, but I think we are naturally inclined towards serial monotony. One person at a time, but without the indefinite commitment. As for dating a girl who is into the drug scene (or guy), my stance would be just don't. I guess part of it comes from your background, but for me, it just brings so much baggage that you probably don't want to deal with. I guess it's probably different if you're used to dealing with drug users/dealers, but for me, I already have enough problems in my life without inviting more in with open arms. Also, if she is still hanging out with her ex like that, there is no possible way that is going to end well. That's that crazy you shouldn't be sticking your dick in.

I guess my point would be I don't believe it is reasonable to expect a parent to teach religion as a philosophy rather than the truth, if the parents believe it to be the truth. To do so under those circumstances would be to teach your kids a lie (from your hypothetical perspective), and to me, that would be a bad thing to do.

I think its now your zombie tarantula. You should get it some brains. I bet it would eat those :P

Try: "Should a parent raise a child under their own belief system, or should they endevour to expose their child too/educate them on, other belief systems beside their own." Non religious beliefs are a belief system, and so the question should include everyone. EDIT: I've been thinking of an answer, and this is where I stand. I think that a parent should teach their children whatever values they feel are important to teach. The ones that are going to make them the best people they can be, and help them lead the best life they can be. If you have biases that you don't want your children to have, then you try not to impart them. If you sincerely believe that your child is going to go to hell if they don't believe in god, then I think it would be pretty shitty of you to not try and convince them god is real. I don't expect parents to do the impossible, nor can I say that my own values are the best, so I just expect parents to do their best to do whatever it takes to give them the best life possible.
  18. There are actually technical points for judging a voice on if you want to deal with that, such as tune and control. Aside from his technical skill, I actually do like the sound of Beibers voice. It;s quite nice IMO. And the reason people listen to pop is because the brain likes simple music that is easy to follow and anticipate. This would be pop.

Ouchy might be right. You could consider bringing it up with her before you run for the hills. If she is actually that clingy though, then I would suggest you run like the wind. I've never been much for distance communication unless I have an actual reason to be talking to that person (so I want something, or I need to arrange something normally). At some point, it stopped being acceptable to say hello followed by my reason for calling, so I've learned to go through the whole how are you doing ritual. I also need to learn to call some people, like my parents, every once in a while just because so that I don't turn into the child who only calls when they want something. As for relationships, its largely the same thing. I much prefer to save things up for our hours long conversations in person rather than spread it out over the week, because quite frankly I just hate talking on the phone as a general thing. In related news, my phone is not recieveing texts from at least some peoples phones, though it is fully capable of sending them to anyone. I need to talk to my phone provider over the weekend and see what's up, because I sort of need to be able to get texts as well as send them).

  21. Moved to the Varrock Library. Even if the books are about Runescape, discussion of the books, as books, is a literary discussion and belongs here.
  22. It has its own wiki here Also, getting the general public to weigh in can make sense. The human brain does excel at certain things like patterns (which a conventional computer sucks at by comparison), and you can tap into fairly considerable brain power resources. The scientific community has made use of the lay man at least once by turning some boring science thing (I can't remember what it actually was) into a game type format. As long as it doesn't happen so often that people get bored, the internet is an incredible resource that works for free.

To me, it sounds like a fairly run of the mill virus. It looks like all it does is use a security exploit to download other programs and run them, which is bad. Reading all that, it seems that you visited some site which had a script to sneak this onto your computer (a drive by). I would assume you just have WSE remove it, or remove it yourself if the antivirus can't for some reason, then run a full system scan to make sure it, and everything it might have downloaded on your behalf, are all gone.
  24. Also, vanity items only work if not everyone has it. Thus Jagex only offers them to their fastest growing subscription method, because that's where the money is. Honestly, when I read this it didn't bother me at all. This isn't exactly what I was hoping for when a jmod told us that we would be able to obtain that stuff at a later date (it was kind of implied that everyone would be able to get things like the katana and green skin later), but the mod wasn't very high up, and that might have been the plan at one point. If anything, I'd rather see them keep reusing the vanity stuff rather than create even more things I can't get. The extra xp didn't really bother me. Not sure why.
  25. My reading comprehension for normal reading is very high. My reading comprehension and recall when I read something out loud is effectively none (I got tested for this  ) When I talk, or recite from memory, I can talk with all the emotion of a drama student. If I have to read something out loud, I do so with all the emotion of a monotone robot with an overburdened processor. I HATE reading out loud, both because I have to read it again if I wan't to know what I just said, and because it makes me sound illiterate. On the plus side, it keeps me from making power point presentations where I just read my slides (which is also really annoying).
