Today I finally got around to installing a virtual machine program on my computer, and its been one long frustrating process. I'm using the program Windows gave me, because its free and I couldn't find anything better anyway (starting to think I should have tried harder though). What I actually wanted was a program that would go, hey, this computer has an operating system. Lets duplicate it, and run it with write permissions only to a partitioned sector of the hard drive that could be wiped by the host computer as needed. What I got was hey, lets build a program that emulates a specific hardware set, and doesn't come with an OS at all! So I tried installing my OS (windows 7) on it, but my computer being a 64bit machine uses a 64 bit OS, and the virtual program is emulating a 32 bit processor for reasons I am sure are fascinating (wouldn't it be easier to just use the hardware of the host?). So it running Ubuntu instead, because if I can't have the OS I want, I might as well go with one I can't pronounce. The icing on the cake is that I had it check the hardware, and it doesn't have the foggiest idea what graphics card its using (and refuses to go above 800x600 resolution as a result). And what processor is it using? An AMD Phenom II X6 1065T. Which is my [bleep]ing 64 bit processor that the lunatic program wouldn't let me install 64 bit OS's on! However, the machine, once I get some anti virus on it, should manage to fufil its function beutifully. The whole purpose of having a virtual machine is that I will be able to send it to dodgy websites and have it examine dodgy files for me, and if it gets infected, then I can simply replace its hard drive with a backup. I guess it was too much to hope for, but I wanted it to have a discreet internet conection. Instead, it does show up to the rest of the world as its host.

I only get colds, normally two or three per year.
  5. Solitary confinement is the motivator to behave. I believe that at least in American Max Security, solitary confinement cells are also partial sensory deprivation, to ensure they are unpleasent enough that you don't want to go back, while being reasonable enough that its not cruel and unusual punishment.

Oh, I'm sure I'll have fun at a friends wedding when that day arrives. The melancholy will be the day I get the invitation, and maybe the day after, while my brain re calibrates its sense of my place in life relative to other people and comes to terms with it. I love weddings though.
  7. Oh, and reading that cracked article, I hate pedestrians who saunter across the street in general (even if I legally had to stop for them and wasn't just being nice). The way I see it, I'm still doing them a service by not running over them in my 2,000lb steel bullet on wheels. The least you could do is acknowledge that there are cars on the road (waiting for you), and not walk across the road like your taking a [bleep]ing lazy Sunday stroll through a meadow.
  8. Smaller school, virtually no violence. Everyone just pushes the person in front of them, and everyone in front of the line just parts to either side. Affect and effect are a lot of fun. In general, its you can affect something, have an effect on something, or have something be effected. You can also effect something, but it means something different. Affect means to have an effect on something (verb). It also means to pretend to have or feel something (verb). Lastly it means an emotion or desire as it influences behavior or decisions (noun), though this meaning is rarely used. Effect means a change that is the result of something else (noun) or to cause something to happen (verb). I strive to use than and then properly, and as best I know, I normally get those two right.

Huh, my friend who moved out to Alberta actually isn't married yet. He is in a relationship though so I guess I'm half right? The ones who marry young are the ones who finished with their education at the end of High School. I guess it makes sense too. If your going that route, you're probably going to land in your career pretty quickly. If your ready for that level of commitment, then why not. Among the people who go to University, your looking at people getting married in the 23-27 range though. I'm sure I'll get over it, but there is going to be some serious wtf going on the day I get invited to a friends wedding (since I know I am almost certainly not going to be the first to cross that line).
  10. I FINALLY DID IT! I finally managed to get a rocket to the Mun, landed on the Mun where the crew stayed for a bit to have lunch, then took off again. The ride home was a bit scary though. Scary enough that I feel like I should be carrying a bit more fuel. I escaped Mun easy enough, and put myself back into a Kerbal orbit. Then I did a retro grade burn that used up most of my remaining fuel (down to like a quarter here). It's going well, I'm slowly heading back to Kerbal, and then the freaking Mun catches up and pulls me back into orbit. So the crew panics, and reorients the command pod away from the Mun again, and burn up all the remaining fuel. The fuel is gone before I can see what my orbit will be (still showing a line away from Mun). Well, as luck would have it it was a crash course for Kerbal, though this meant I wasn't going to get to choose my landing spot. At a couple KM up the crew gave a hearty farewell to the accent engine and fuel tank which had managed to get them home (which almost seems silly when you look at how many fuel tanks and engines it took to complete the trip in the other direction). This rocket (even though its literally the same design I keep using, I built this one from scratch and named it the Reventon) was carrying a Mechanical Jeb pilot assist, which adds a bit of weight, and doesn't seem to be all that structurally sound (might modify it for future flights). The Mech gave out on impact with the ocean at a breezy 13.6m/s, which caused the parachute to fall off (Mech sits on top of the pod, with the parachute attached to Mech). The Pod is safe and sound, if 'floating' a couple metres under water at the moment. First, a beutiful horizon picture I have while I'm uploading: Now, takeoff: Landed: Splash Down: This will however be the only mission of the Reventon rocket. The design has some very serious flaws with handleing when it jetisons the Liquid fuel boosters, probably because the virtually identical Thor (which handles better at this point) has an SAS unit at top of each main engine stack, where the Reventon instead uses just one on top of the tricoupler. This makes it impossible to run the main engines at more than a little over 2/3, without causing it to tip, and this can only be achieved with nearly constant RCS use (you have to run the engine under 1/3 to correct the heading as well). So after this, it will be the Thor Mk II's, which will incorporate the best of both designs. I want a more stable launch platform, and I want an accent stage that can achieve Mun orbit, and break it, so that I can return to Kerbal from any point on the Mun (the Kerbal Space program would like to leave something on the far side as well. Also, since this was the first mission after installing the new version, persistence was reset so I got to do this with the infamous Jebediah, who as can be seen in the takeoff shot, is having a blast while his companions are trying not to wet themselves.
  11. This reminds me of my last School now, where sometimes the hallway would get super clogged, especially around the lockers. It was not unheard of for groups of 4 to 8 people to get impatient and form a single file line, and literally plow through everyone. It was also normal to capture at least one surprised person and use them as the battering ram, since the first person they hit often gets stuck and can't move to the side.

As an observational point, I find it interesting that the assumption would be he wants to [bleep] someone. I've been attracted to people since long before I knew that was even an option, or had any desire to par take. I also agree with Maleficus here. Your still young and the stakes aren't as high as they will be in the future. Might as well get in some practice now while the consequences are lesser. On a related note, me and my BF had a conversation that sort of made us feel old (and its going to get a whole lot worse in the future). Worse for him than me, but he's talking about how people he knew from Highschool are married now, or at least engaged (often to their high school sweethearts oddly enough). I realized that I have a friend that moved away years ago to go work the tar sands in Alberta, and even though we haven't talked since he left, I'm fairly certain he's married by now. There are other people I know who will probably be getting engaged in the next year or two. Now I know what people meant when they told me that the cost of a post secondary education would be that one day, I am going to look around and realize everyone has moved on with their lives. They have jobs or careers, they own their own house, and they're either engaged or married. It's a really freaky feeling to have, because you feel like you've been somehow left behind. Your friend has a car now, and you have student debt and a year of classes left (actually more than that).
  14. Moved to the appropriate board. As an aside, I do know of one clan that might fit your bill. I think they recently reformed as a new clan, so I'm not sure what the deal is with them right now. Its a social clan, without any requirements, but I think at least some of them seemed to be into the citadel. I'll try and figure out what's going on with them tomorrow if that sounds like something you might be interested in.
  15. This reminds me of a Dilbert strip where I think its Alice creates a new measurement of intelligence based on how long someone will keep talking to you while your trying to work. My favorite are people that form into human chains on the sidewalk (often you only need two, maybe three people), and walk super slow. To get around them, you have to wait for there to be lots of clear space in front of them, and then walk super fast and dart around them. As a bonus, sometimes you get someone on the outside who likes to gesticulate by flailing around like their being attacked by a bee hive, often at random with next to no warning.
  16. Yeah, right now its almost impossible to say with any certainty what builds will actually work, until Jagex sorts out their many many issues and the game performance goes back to being roughly based on the quality of your hardware. The best you can hope for is that someone has a laptop that plays the game well, and they can give you its build.

Where are you going Abel? We are going to Austria. So excited to finally leave the country for a while. Be the first one to leave the country minus for military functions. Going to to be an awesone 10 days for sure! That should be fun. I've never been outside of North America, though I'd like to see at least some of Europe someday (thinking Scotland and Britain).

I did it through the career advising office at my university (its called something like that). Bascially, it exists to help students explore what options are open to them, and to help them choose something they are going to enjoy. The one here does the Strong Interest and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) test as an extension of that (I have done both now). Each one here costs like $15 dollars to do. The nice thing about having it done through them is I also get to talk to someone to help interpret the results, since neither test is all that helpful without being interpreted. They're just tools to help you examine yourself. Other than that, I'm not really sure where else you would go to get them done. I have a cousin who did the Briggs, but I think she did it through a University (I think ours will do it for non students as well, but it will cost more). I've also caved, and bought Dead Space on steam, since I enjoyed its sequel so much. I guess Dead Space 2 didn't give me enough nightmare fuel (a joke of course. It gave me enough nightmare fuel to last a lifetime). It should be ready to play at midnight, and its definitely getting played before bed. If I get really crazy, I'll use the headphones and turn the lights down low (because I finally got some freaking incandescent bulbs to put in my dimmer switch controlled sockets).

Huh, I hand't thought about certain types being more common than others, though when I think about it, I have not met very many people like me. So I went out and found a chart of the etimated frequencies of each type for the United states, and it would seem that INTP is certainly one of the rarer ones. INFJ certainly seems to be the rarest type. The most common are ISTJ, ISFJ, ESTJ, and ESFJ. The other two IS's and ES's would seem to be at or above what would be equal distribution. On the whole, the IN group is the rarest, followed by the EN group, then ES, and lastly IS as the most common.

Got the results from my Myers Briggs test today. Turns out I am Introverted Thinking with Extroverted Intuition or Introversion, Intuition, Thinking, Perceiving (INTP). The category fits me to a tee. I'm not going to write out the whole description here, instead if your interested read this page to get a good, and fairly short, description. A few key points though that really hit home with me: Unless their work requires action, they are more interested in the challenge of finding solutions than in putting solutions to practical use. INTP's are tolerant of a wide range of behavior, arguing and raising issues only when they believe it is reasonable to do so. This flexibility disappears, however, when their ruling principles are challenged; then they stop adapting. The INTP has no understanding or value for decisions made on the basis of personal subjectivity or feelings. They strive constantly to achieve logical conclusions to problems, and don't understand the importance or relevance of applying subjective emotional considerations to decisions. For this reason, INTPs are usually not in-tune with how people are feeling, and are not naturally well-equiped to meet the emotional needs of others. Under great stress, INTP's may erupt outwardly in inappropriate displays of emotion. The resulting explosive anger or hurt tearfulness is quite unnerving to others and embarrassing to the usually calm and controlled INTP. Now I get to read through all the material I got today, and think on it (a lot, since I am doing this as part of trying to choose a career). I also want to go through all 16 types.

Going through some of the cracked photoplasty, here are some of my highlights:

What job are you looking for? I'm going to diagnose myself here but I think I have RSI. My left shoulder has been killing me ever since this weekend where I grinded on RuneScape. My right hand does the moving on the trackpad but my left was pretty much still, using the thumb to click the mouse with the middle finger stretched to press 1 or 2. It's particularly painful at night and in the morning in bed, I have to punch it to make it feel better. Robax Platinum solved this for me a while ago. Basically I played way too much minecraft, and the next morning my wrists and forearms were on fire, and they stayed that way non stop for the next couple days till I wandered over to the University medical center and that's what they told me to use. The platinum version is a muscle relaxant and ibuprofen combined, and it was able to pretty much annihilate all the pain even to the point where I could actually do a bit of typing for a couple minutes at a time before the pain would start to return. After like 3 days on that, my arms healed enough that I didn't need the pills any more, and a couple more weeks and most of the pain was gone even for more extended computer usage. I always take it easy now though, not going through that again.

Yeah. This page has links to more than enough videos to fill your day. I would go through the 10 at the top from Bethesda first, because they are very well laid out, and provide an excellent crash course, and cover all the hot keys and stuff. Just an excellent crash course from the people who actually made the game. I'm also working through all of Best In Slots videos, just go get some extra ideas, and the later ones cover some stuff that wasn't really looked at in the crash course. I'll also be going through LouisAT444's videos, because they look like they cover some of the other stuff I am interested in for my house/fortress.

Today I hope to start making a mod for Skyrim. I am aiming to make myself a home/fortress. Watched all the official tutorials yesterday, and this looks like something I can learn to do. Next I am going to watch as many of the other tutorials listed on the creationkit site, because I want to see what is and isn't possible to do, and what sorts of things I need to take into account when making areas (like avoiding really long lines of sight that force your computer to render extra stuff). Going to be an interesting day. It's also neat, even if I never make anything publish worthy, just to see how the game was put together. Now I have some appreciation when I go through the game of how things were assembled, and the work that went into it. I've always wanted to know how this sort of stuff works. EDIT: Looking through the list of videos, assuming I do watch most of them for my own entertainment. I might not get to do any work today at all. Looks like several hours of material.

I;d love to know what computer they were using for the creation kit tutorials for Skyrim. Giving it a shot now and trying to follow along, but my computer is not enjoying this (and I'm not sure why since it doesn't seem to be trying either). I think its having trouble pulling all the data off the hard drive fast enough. Which is a silly problem because my computer has enough ram to hold all of the game data in there at the same time, and not be at risk of running out. Would take a while to read it all, but it would probably make the tool run much faster.
