  1. It's actually doing much better today than it has been recently I think. Customer service is tricky. Most of the people they deal with are not that bright, often along the lines of calling to complain about the instructions they didn't read, or asking questions that are say answered on the faq page. I imagine that it doesn't take long working in that industry before you just assume all your customers are raging morons who shouldn't leave the house without being encased in pillows lest they hurt themselves. However, outsourced tech support does annoy me. One of the few redeeming features of my ISP is that I can actually understand their tech support people (because they are from the same country as me). I do fairly well with western accents, but a lot of the eastern ones are totally incomprehensible to me. Outsourced tech support might as well be speaking Hindi at me.

He only wants the job to keep his mom from thinking he's up to no good, even if he doesn't actually work, he wants the appearance that he does. And legally, he has to live with his mom at least until he turns 18, cause his dad's "won" the custody case by not allowing him to live anywhere else. Well, since his mom knows he doesn't work, that all seems rather pointless now. Surely he knows that mother knows? And I rather enjoyed the Hunger Games. Books aside, its still a great movie imo.

Oh, alrighty then. As for your friend...that's a tough one. Ignoring the fact that he's your friend for a minute, I try to avoid doing anything to make drug dealers bad, because that's not normally good for your health (and neither is being associated with them). I would also like to take a minute to wonder why he is living with his mother if he makes a grand a week. Probably the ideal situation would be to have your friend quit since he doesn't work anyway.
  4. All. The. Freaking. Time. I try telling myself "just 5 minutes", "just this bit", "only for this activity and done" and it goes into several hours of wandering wikis, posting on forums, and just doing shenanigans, but in the late night hours. :wall: I'm doing this right now. On a related note, the local conveniance store closed early and I was kind of counting on it being open to have something to eat tonight, and the next nearest one was also closed (I think it closes at 11 every night though). Luckily I had some turkey from Easter, and some parmasean cheese, so that's what I had tonight (not a normal combination, but not bad). Anyway, that annoyed me because all I'd had today was some KD and I was very hungry.
  5. I can't vote in the states, not being a citizen and all... But if I could I think I would sign up as a Democrat and never watch another political discussion again for a decade. America hits me as the most conservative democratic country in the world, so I figure the rest of the developed world as a whole is probably happier when a democrat is in office (because it probably means less world policing and wars). Also, as an issue I can't abide, the Republicans seem to be pro religion. I like my religion and state as far away from each other as possible, and I like my politicians to be moderates or atheists.
  6. If you have some time before you buy whatever it is, the easiest way to get their size (without asking) would be to go shopping with them. Or ask one of their friends, since they might know.
  7. Oh, it all done now. The day after that post I went out and got a SATA data cable, since my case didn't have a spare tucked away inside of it (how awesome that would have been though). It works beutifully, though I noticed that its name is part of the drive, and not part of the adapter in its case, so it still has the name Expansion Drive and its icon still looks like its case. And all my media is back on it. Was fun poking around in the case too. My motherboard has a few places left for expansion in the Memory and Disc drive area, though its lacks the slot for a second GPU. I'm just happy it had enough spare power, being a store bought. I was pretty sure it would based on a calc I found to help estimate its power usage, but I think it will need a bigger PSU before anything else goes in there (unless I suddenly develop an urge for another 4 GB of RAM, I'm sure it could handle a 4th stick).

Alright, now which one of my posts is being talked about here. Kinda lost...

I do? Do tell. Actually, I do think freedom of speech could stand to be tightened a bit to reduce deliberate (corporate) misinformation, especially in the food industry where they have in effect legalized bribing scientists to say anything about the health benefits of your food with absolutely no need for verification (this is in the US).

It took me a minute to realize that it was supposed to be "hardcore butt[bleep]ing weekend." Lol, I probably should have posted the video clip, it makes more sense when you see it in context.

I like the idea of Lobsterbert, but -bert only works with monosyllabic names, so in practicality I would drop the Lob from the name. Therefore, if I ever get a pet lobster, I shall name it Sterbert. This morning I got part of a song stuck in my head that I don't think I have heard in years. Turns out it was U2's Stuck in a Moment.

Pincher? Snappy? Probably something silly like that.
  14. Reminds me of the "Old Familiarity Technique" You can either skip to 5:20 in video, or read the text version[spoiler=text version] Alice: What's the old familiarity technique? Wally: It involves spending so much time with a woman that she gets used to your faults. It's like falling in love but without the expense. Dilbert: If I could have made this tobacco lobbyist spend enough time with me... Wally: ...while she was using you... Dilbert: ...then maybe, just maybe, the inertia would carry her beyond the point of being repulsed by my personality. Wally: Then one day if she breaks up with a socially functional boyfriend, she might be to emotionally crippled to date again. And there Dilbert will be. Alice: Why don't you just date a woman who respects you in the first place? Wally: You can do that?

I could go for a lobster. I think their cute. They also have a shot at outliving their owners. Need a big tank though.

Cats are good if you don't have the time, or don't want to take the time, to take care of them. Dogs a lot more work, though it does depend on the breed (as intelligence goes up, so does how much you need to entertain it). The only thing I will say about cats, is that around here there are people who are only prevented from laying bear traps or getting cat eating dogs out of fear of the law. People don't like cats in their yards uninvited. As for a hen, make sure that's actually legal (its not here, if your in the city).

Something I will say is that I regret not being in a dorn my first year, because it makes it a lot harder to meet people. After year one, then totally move out, probably with a group of friends who you might very well hate by the end of the year.

Mostly it ties back to today though. A lot of the things posted here are prompted by something that happens to us.

At the first rack city I would have been sprinting around closing all my windows and cranking my stereo up to drown it out. That's one of the few songs that the second I hear it my blood pressure goes up and I get an irresistible urge to either change the song or murder whatever is playing it. The other is Drake - Over, which is a lot worse, but only because I've heard it many more times than Rack City.

So I was watching family guy (foreign affairs episode). I had to double check to make sure music video was actually real (Dancing in the Street). It's just so terrible (at least in a modern context, I'm sure it wasn't quite so bad back in 1985), it was almost surreal watching it for the first time. Wow.
  21. The good in other people. I was riding on the bus yesterday, and a guy gets on and asks the bus driver if a wallet had been found because he left his on the bus earlier. Bus driver gets on his phone and it turns out the wallet was turned in, so someone found it and handed it in. He also invented a stop for a couple who we're going to the hospital because it was more convenient, which I though was nice.
  22. Here is how I look at it: Saying you don't have the time is pretty much the worst excuse ever thought up for this sort of thing. It sounds like it makes sense on the surface, but the truth is that if you want to be with someone, you are going to rearrange your schedule to fit them in. So unless you know someone who is in a permanent state of being so busy that everything they do is last minute and they really don't have any free time, its just them trying to be nice. So I would take it for what it really is. He doesn't want to be with you and he's trying to be nice about it, which means he cares at least enough about you to not want to hurt your feelings and let you down as easy as he can. So I don't think you should be holding it against him, and your original plan to try and make sure things aren't awkward is probably still your best choice.
  23. As a point of interest, braces are much less effective in your late teens and early adulthood. Once your jaw has stopped growing, it makes it a lot harder to move your teeth, which means the braces will take a lot longer do their job if they can do it at all. It is also tends to be more socially acceptable to have braces when your still in school, rather than in the workforce or even post secondary. The weather is getting a bit annoying with its inconsistencies. Every time we have a nice day I don't want it to go back.
  24. All things considered, I prefer Red Alert 2. RE3 is just so fast paced. Don't get me wrong, its a really neat concept, but as someone who would rather dig in and have a multi hour game, these 15 minute matches are like "ahhhhh panic time!" I should get Age of Empires 3 if I think I can afford it. The latest addition to my gaming library is Project Freedom, which is a nice little $4 space fighter shooter I got from steam. Not complicated, good for a relaxing gaming session. Just fly around and blow all your enemies to kingdom come, with minimal thinking needed.

I have been incredibly absent minded today (aside from the shower). Most of it is not being able to follow conversations with other people, but I also managed to work in calling someone at the wrong number (because I forgot I have two numbers for them). It's been fun, and oddly productive, but I wouldn't mind having my mind all in one piece tomorrow. Also yes. Tim's post has all the hallmarks of the teenage rebellious phase. Also, if spacers are those loops people put in their ears, don't d that, especially not just to spite someone. Dye comes out eventually, loops in your ears are something you have to deal with for the rest of your life, and you have enough trouble finding other people without giving yourself a handicap (at least from where I stand).
