Oh cool. Glad the sentiment made it outside the city and its not just us being crazy. I also feel like Halifax probably makes up the bulk of mainland news since we have most of the mainland population.. Cape Breton seems like it would probably focus on itself since they have a sort of unique culture thing going on over there.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
However taking steps to get her more interested in me (inviting her to group events I'll be at, etc) and doing a flirting of a nature that isn't blatant (I can't really describe what I mean by that, but I definitely act two different ways when I'm flirting blatantly and flirting subversively) would be alright, right? Since I'm definitely not asking her out until her current issue is resolved, but the more I hang out with her (assuming she ends up liking me*), the more likely she'll end up dropping the other guy. *I assume that because if I'm just not her type or something there's absolutely nothing I can really do. So I won't even consider it as a course of action so much as a result. The way I would put it is make yourself available, which I suppose does include a bit of flirting of a sort. You want to be sending the message that your available, without sending the message that you actually want something if that makes any sense. Let her come to you if she wants. Then, after prom, you can go all out (or sooner depending on what happens, but don't get your hopes up).

You know you're in the area when as you read the post you thing of the joking sentiment mentioned at the end of the post. Honestly though, Halifax went crazy last year with ones that got on the news. Let alone some of the deaths caused by other violence. Also, a holy crud moment when I saw the date on that, didn't think it was that long ago. Another Haligonian? There we're like 5 of us in the clan I'm in at one point (second place went to two people who lived 15 minutes from each other. No one else in the clan was close to each other as far as we could tell). And yeah, the date got me too. Feels like it was only a year or two ago.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
[hide] What the [bleep]? How is she allowed to do shit like that? ... Back in Year 7, I was like in the bottom class of German, and I remember how she used to pick on my friend who's dyslexic and has some other issues (I don't know exactly what it is) but her handwriting is like squiggles, and I just remember her shouting at my friend being like "It's like a 5 year old wrote it!" ... [/hide]That's disgusting. An adult (teacher no less) making fun of people for having a medical condition just makes them a terrible person. I finally remembered one (though now that I remember I almost feel like I've said this before, possibly because I've thought of it so much). People who look like their going to cross the street/walk out in front of you, but don't. Almost every day I see at least one clueless person walk right up to the edge of the curb (normally near a corner), often look around, and then just stand there. You can see the cars slowing down or actually preemptively trying to dodge them out of fear that they are a university student about to walk out in front of them(many local uni students like to pretend that there aren't any cars on the road off campus, and if they don't see them they cant be hit by them, and then don't stop doing this even off campus). The gold medal goes to the ass clowns who do this at actual cross walks. Also, people who wont start walking until the cars are totally stopped which is actually really dangerous because local custom is to slow down and see if they want to cross, and if they don't move you speed back up. I've seen a couple people almost get run down because they started walking at the same time as the driver decided they weren't going to, and hit the gas. Sometimes I feel like you shouldn't be allowed to walk around in the city until you have logged at least a couple hours driving in one.

Wow. Halifax is one of the most violent cities in Canada, in 5th place for gun crimes in 06 (the latest year I can find data for), and you've had more shootings in a week than we normally have in a month (or at least more victims, because none of our criminals can aim worth a damn which isn't really a good thing when they are shooting at each other in front of a childrens hospital). The gunfights between those two families started to lead to the joking sentiment that we should be giving them gun training so that they could just all kill each other and get it over with. That's terrible

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
I'm with Kalphite on this. If she is going to the prom with someone else, it doesn't matter what she wants with him, you can't make a move on her without backing her into a corner. I guess for me, if I had committed to go to the prom with someone, even just as a friend, and then someone starts flirting with me a couple months before hand, I'd write him off as an inconsiderate douche in about 10 seconds for trying to put me in a situation where I'm now either doing the friend I am going to prom with a favor at the cost of what I wan't, or I get to be that person who blows my friend off at the last minute and screws over his prom. Keep it to yourself until after prom.

Dreams - post/share
So for anyone who has seen Ghostbusters, remember the scene in the library where the ghost turns around and goes all scary face? My dream that that x3 this morning. I only remember the ending, but I was with two people, and I had a memory that there would be 3 ghosts that looked like cute versions of RS's imps flying into the room, and right before they reached the wall (we're in an L shaped room at one door, the ghosts come in through the other door and head strait into the wall), they will turn around and do the scary thing from ghost busters. So I turn around so that I don't have to watch (my companions have never seen it before, so I don't get them to do the same). I think what happened next is a case of thinking about something too much in a dream can cause it to happen. I keep thinking about what the ghosts will do, playing the memory over and over in my head, and suddenly all 3 of the little [bleep]ers are right in front of me with their arms against my chest and shoulders, hissing in my face and doing the really freaky face thing (never going to unburn that image from my mind. Thanks imagination!), and I start screaming, and then I wake up. To put the icing on the cake, the dream didn't end immediately when I woke up. The sensation of the ghosts pressing on me stuck around for a good moment. Not a pleasant way to wake up, but it sure did a good job. And I managed to not actually wake up screaming (I don't think I talk in my dreams at all, so I generally yell as loud as I want without running the risk of waking people up).

Today...
Woke up early (for me) today. And it is a glorious day, which I really needed after the dream that did the waking. It just needs to get a bit warmer so that its actually as nice out as it looks, because right now I have a huge urge to lay on the back deck and read a book or something, but its actually not warm enough for that to be fun. Ah well.

What constitutes a 'true friend'?
Even though I think it might have been a joke, I agree with Assume, though I think they would try to convince you to turn yourself in first (because unless you can get away with it, that is the best possible thing you can do in terms of reducing your sentence).

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
A bit of sympathy yes, but also concern for whoever would be doing this. My point here would be that regardless of what the teacher has done, ruining their career (if that happened) would strip them of a job and mess up their pension, which will affect them for the rest of their life. If they are married, its going to impact on that, and if they have children, its certainly going to affect them. So even if the teacher totally deserves it, you have to think through the collateral damage to all the people who didn't do a thing to hurt you. You just need to think about these things and decide if you can live with the consequences of your actions.

Never thought I would ask for auto tune, but I think they could use some. Their both singing really flat, and it hurts to hear it. I have the same problem with karaoke a lot (I can't bear listening to people sing out of tune with themselves or the music. Gives me a headache). I skipped around a bit though, and they do a lot better on the higher notes, so it would probably help if the entire song we're in a different key that suited their voices.

audio would probably work for these purposes (and would be easier to pull off both in terms of getting the equipment together and not getting caught). If you actually get caught recording, there will be no sympathy for your position ever (unless you get caught after getting something that justifies it). And in the interest of being a decent person, I would suggest exhausting your other options first anyway. At the end of the day, I think its a lot nicer if you can honestly say that you gave everyone else every opourtunity to help you remedy the situation, because if you get what your story describes on film or even audio, it could very well ruin their career.

Another idea, and I hesitate to suggest this because its pretty low...cameras are cheep and plentiful now a days. Footage of your teacher yelling at you for no reason would go a long way to helping you, if your very careful to be on your absolute best behavior. The only thing you can't do if you get footage is actually confront the teacher with it, because the second you do that your risking blackmail charges. You would probably want to start by showing it to the principal, if you get something worth showing.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
It is, though I think once things get to the point where either party is laying down an ultimatum, the relationship boat has already sailed. I feel like if the two of you got back together, Nox would't have complete trust that she is really committed to him this time (I don't know if that kind of trust can ever be rebuilt, or if it will always be there in the back of your mind). She is going to be afraid to take any time for herself for fear of signaling that she isn't entirely committed to this, and sooner or later that will kill the relationship as well. A relationship can't work without trust on both sides, so I guess the question is, how much do you trust her? If you have doubts, then just move on. You don't want to be in a relationship with doubts.

Okay, so if you have approached the teacher, and the head teacher, then your next shot would be whoever is higher up the ladder, which is probably the principle.

What are you listening to right now!?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7MhpFF1vv0 What can I say, sometimes its fun to listen to a song I can actually sing (well).

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
Absolutely this. Talk to whoever her boss (generally the principle, unless its a private school in which case it will probably be the assistant headmaster. If you wanted to, you might also consider talking to the teacher first. That way, when you do go to the principal, you can say you tried to work it out with the teacher first, which removes most of the teachers right to be mad with you, and makes your case look a lot more legitimate.

New Super Moderator!
It isn't a secret. Especially when she states that she is a girl in OT. You should venture there more often. I don't generally advertise it though. I only revealed it in OT after it was revealed back when I became a board moderator lol (and no, I didn't mind).

The Style Thread
Wait, how do you use a pair of pants for 6 months and not need to wash them? If they are wearing to the point they have holes, you obviously wear them enough. I have two pairs in general rotation, and they get washed pretty much every week, and I either wear a work pair, or something else while they wash. I also don't think I have ever managed to hole a pair of jeans, and not a lack of trying. Denim is pretty resilient to attack, though its exceptionally bad when it does tear normally.
