Today...
Gabe does have a point. What a terrible thing to put your family through, though in the great scheme of things (and this sounds terrible), it me be putting them through less than dealing with someone who obviously had some pretty big personal demons. I guess he thought so. (and note that doesn't exclude me feeling sorry for him. I feel bad for anyone who is in such a bad place that suicide becomes a valid solution) I hope his daughter does alright. I can't imagine going through that.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
That's just incredible. I always assumed it was common knowledge. Maybe that's because all the bodies that weren't sent home got buried here, though I can't say that normally comes up. I'm pretty sure these people grew up in a cave someplace. I do this. The sound has never bothered me (unlike fingernails on a chalkboard).

Today...
Today I have converted my external hard drive with a faulty power control chip into a working internal hard drive that works just fine, and bringing the storage capacity of my PC up from 2TB to 4TB. Currently in the process of moving everything that was added to the media folder (when it looked like the external was in trouble, and after finding out about the defect, I just moved it onto my internal drive) since I stopped using the external back onto the second hard drive, and wiping the main one. So now I have a work/gaming drive and media drive.

Today...
One of those mornings. Wasn't really awake when I got out of bed. Threw on a pair of jeans and a sweater to go down and take a shower, turn it on and it was already warm (I guess someone else had just taken one), and without even thinking about it I just walked on in. Took me a few second to figure out what was wrong  Oh well.

Lol, even if it is, there are people who actually do think like that. The scary part is how many people never grow out of it.

Lol, I never even get to that part when trying to explain it. The Katana in particular is actually about the worst possible bladed weapon you could choose that's more than a foot long. They are ridiculously fragile and high maintenance so if you don't care for the blade exactly right the thing won't be able to cut jack shit by the next day (assuming it doesn't snap a few times first). The other problem with swords in general is that the normal assumption is bodily fluids transmit the infection, so zombie blood on your open wound is just as fatal as a bite. Even a pole arm (getting to them in a second) will probably manage to get blood on you. As for the machete, again it needs to be cared for because your trying to get it through a spinal column, not bushes. This is probably on par with trying to swing a machete through a 4-5 inch tree trunk. And yeah, just about any weapon short of a bladed pole arm is going to take MANY swings to decapitate a human (including an axe), and even for a pole arm, this only works if the body/neck is braced against something, otherwise your just going to knock them down (though this would leave them open to decapitation on the next swing since the ground is now your brace).

External Hard Drive Re-Caseing
So, I have a 2TB external seagate hard drive, and its a piece of shit (but I didn't realize just how bad until I couldn't return it anymore, so I'm stuck with it). What I have found out, is that every single one of them has a defect in the circuit board that affects power management, so every few minutes it will be unable to move its reader heads in a full arc, causing it to stall its data transfer and make a really irritating sound, and it will continue to do this until it fails completely and becomes a brick. However, it would see that the hard drive itself is perfectly fine, and I guess some people have actually put them in other manufacturers externals and they work just fine. (in case anyone is wondering how I didn't notice this, there seems to be a 1/100 chance that when you plug it in, it will actually consistantly work without issue, and will go back to being shitty the next hundred times you try to power cycle it back into working. Also, every time it loses power, it becomes harder and harder to coax it back into working, so the problem is getting worse. I have copied the whole thing on my PC's 2TB hard drive and stopped using it, but this seems like a huge waste) What I am wondering is if external usb hard drives can be used as internal hard drive (I don't have the faintest idea how to open the case without going at it with a saw). So I am hoping someone might know if this can be done (and how I would figure out how much power it needs since my computer does not have a lot of excess). I assume it can since it seems you can build externals with internals. Or would it be easier to get something like this and just slap the hard drive in there. I'm not sure how much work is involved in either type of conversion. EDIT: So apparently just making a post was enough to make me stop being lazy. I got the hard drive out, and after a couple minutes study of my computer, the cable pluggin in the current hard drive has two more connectors (which is funny because the hard drive bay only has room for two), so in theory I could probably plug it in within the hour, after I finagle the hard drive bay out of the case so I can drop another one in, and then perform whatever black magic is needed to make it go back in. I think I can even use the screws that we're holding the rubber pads onto it inside its case. And the thing even has installation instructions on it, so I'm going to power down and see if I can't do this without breaking anything (like going to make sure I am well grounded before I touch that case). EDIT 2: Installed it without much trouble. I need a SATA data cable though before it will work (I didn't bother giving it power either), so that's on my to do list for tomorrow. With any luck, the hard drive will be nice and workable again by tomorrow evening, and my computer will have 4 TB's of data storage at its disposal

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
He definitely knows about the driving to work bit, but I dunno if he knows the bed situation. It's certainly not something I'd be pleased with if I were on his end. It also kind of gives the impression that she still wants to be with me. I'm not crazy for getting that idea, am I? No, I think that's a perfectly reasonable and logical assumption.

Everyone should get shot down at least once (and likely many more times than that). It's part of the human experience.

Today...
Actually, none of my original posts would be around anyway, because they would pre-date some fiasco with the database where everything was lost. Shame, I would have liked to see how I have grown. I still had some posts after that though, so I could still see back a fair ways. *wanders off to check* EDIT: sctratch that. I did a seach for my name (because my content goes back only a few months to not even when I came back last), and I'm finding stuff from right after I joined. [hide] So I used to post more than Assume Nothing. I kept this up for a while actually. I used to have so much to say (and the forums used to move a bit faster) [/hide] I mean if you really want to see this stuff, just search me. I think I was a bit insufferable in OT, because I thought I knew everything. Still, I could have fun talking to my 16 year old self I think.

I have a lot of mp4's. Had to get a codec pack to play them though. Your walkman is less flexible than my phone :P

I don't know what they'll do with it. Be nice to keep it if the repair isn't going to be too much since its a matching set to the washer. In the meantime I guess they'll make do with the 2+ decade old purely mechanical dryer, for which the closest thing to a repair its needed is replacing the heating elements.

Today...
Well I hope things go well without an accompanist. Also, your new avatar is really throwing me off. I think you've had the other one for as long as I've seen you here. Mom's dryer flat out died. I think its having a power supply issue and the signal was just the first system to feel the effect. Now it can't light up its display at normal brightness, change any of its settings or even start, so its fairly useless. Fortunately, there is another super old dryer (like one knob and a start button) here that we almost forgot existed, and its handling the drying for now. A lot less conveniant though. There are two houses on our property because my parents built the new one on the same lot. The old dryer is in the old house.

Things That Make You Smile :)
Used to do this in high school math sometimes. Was always a lot of fun. Also in economics, my teacher always had interesting stuff to talk about.

Today...
Well, technically the topic is what happened to you today, though normally its anything going on in your life at the moment (so near future and past too). I don't worry to much about it on this thread, since it also doubles as like the OT chat lounge since we get into discussions about stuff a lot, and if it gets big enough it will simply be split or merged and everyone will be happy.

How Fast Is Yours?
Here is my parents connection. Loving how its nearly in the top 25%, despite this being a rural area (I think they use Halifax as the location for the entire Halifax Regional Municipality). Much nicer than my city connection, though it probably helps that my computer is the only one running right now.

Meaningful is relative. I don't think what constitutes a meaningful relationship to a teenager or adult is going to exactly match up with a 10 year old. If they have fun, why not. My mom's dryer is broken, and now it cycles through the end of cycle alarm options. BEEP beep [pause] BEEP beep [pause] BEEP beep. Not cool, but at least it only does it when the dryer is running.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
Should probably start by telling you that I have Ulcerative Colitis myself, so I definitely sympathise with your situation. I'm certainly not the kind of relationship wizard that can give you what I trust to be good advice on your situation, but a problem I have run into, and I know other people (through my diagnosis) who have run into the same roadblock, is that not everyone can deal with your condition. In the worst cases, they still think its something you get over, and then one day they realize that even if you look healthy now, it might just be an illusion and in a couple days your going to be holed up in the bathroom again because you don't want to be more than 15ft from a toilet. When your trying to make a life together, you also have the additional burdens of your hgih risk of colon cancer looming in the distance, and depending on the medication that's allowing you to be a functional human being again and your health care plan, one hell of a financial burden (the one I am on would be $78,000 a year). So I guess, being afraid of your temper might not be the problem. Depending on who she is, it could be that your better now, so she has no obligation to take care of you, and simply can't deal with your condition any more, or she might be afraid that in the future she is going to stop being able to deal with it. As for not wanting to find someone else...well you'll find out where you stand on that in time. You've been with this girl for long time, and your almost certainly not going to get over her quickly. But in time, you might find that your willing to look for someone else.

Ethics and Morality
I'd actually have to agree that the concept of universal truths (like human rights) as an absolute truth is kind of silly, because the world is very complicated. For example, abortion which seems to be our hot example is (or can be) a violation of the right to life on both sides of the argument, both because child birth can be fatal to the mother and even more so if you include any kind of quality of life qualifier (because having a child can easily impact on everyone's quality of life, including the childs which adds a third layer to the whole thing). As an aside, I would say that Consequentialism is actually very subjective. It only has meaning so long as there is a scale to determine what consequences are desirable and why. For example, I would say that our species is best served if certain individuals are not allowed to propagate (and before anyone gets all huffy on me, I am actually one of those people who carries a potentially life threatening genetic defect, which means I am including myself in that group), and the most effective way to do this would be genetic tests at birth followed by a culling of every baby with undesirable traits (eugenics). Consequentialism is at its core pure unfeeling logic. I would consider morality to be the 'logic' of emotion. While consequences are important, I don't think one should rely entirely upon them to judge, or else you can justify a lot of things that under what I would consider to be common first world morality, are atrocities (such as eugenics and genocide, as well as whatever killing off all the people to old to work is called).

Today...
Why not? People love an excuse to celebrate and get together with family (at least mine does). Got together with my favourite cousins, and tried out their hot tub in a mild snow storm. I want one so bad now. Also had a brain storm while my Dad was talking about getting one for the camp. I think someone should make a hottub with a deep section against one side so you can barbecue from the hot tub. A very good day.

[Steam] Kerbal Space Program - Update 0.22: Career Mode!
Someone finally made a part/plugin that can help find the monoliths, which should make the search fun again (I don't mind looking, but I need to know if I am heading in the right direction or else I feel like I am wasting my time. Now I just need to figure out where the stupid extra Space Center(s) is/are. They say you can see it from the map, and I'm fairly certain its on another continent, but urgh. I've identified a few likely target spots and dispatched my Ares scout plane to check it out (which can get from the KSC to the north or south pole in 11-12 minutes). I've not had much chance to scout the far side though which is where I think it is.

Are you going to CONTINUE renewing membership?
With this update, I see a pattern emerging very clearly that leads to some place I will not go (micro transactions can suck it). I have one final goal left holding me to the game, which is all 80+, and involves a lot of things I don't really want to do (hence why I didn't achieve it months ago like I could have), so that might never happen. I think after just over 8 years of playing this game, I might be ready to move on (not from here of course). The rest of my life seems to be lining up for new things for me, and I think that will be the end of my career in their game whether I like it or not. Their just making it easier for me.

No, that's not the one I mean. I thought they remade that movie itself with the same title, but a quick search tells me I'm wrong. I think I mean this one or maybe this one, or maybe both? Something that had a (within the last few years) reputation for being a really [bleep]ing scary movie, that I thought had exorcist in the title.
