  1. The point was that 4 darts aren't really going to change much. Using them wisely (in the Kiln) you would kill Hakaan, the Jad on wave 35 and any other 2 Jad's. While this is a slight help it is by no means a guarantee, and in my opinion if you can do the Kiln using the 4 darts, you can do it without any darts.
  2. Extremes are acceptable if the only PvM you're doing is Slayer. They are extremely useful, and worth it for most bosses as they can prolong your stay, give faster kills and allow the use of Sara Brews. The point people who were suggesting making Ovls were making is that in the long run it is more efficient to get 99 Herblore by making Ovls if you ever planning on using/making Ovls in the future. It's both more expensive, and a waste of experience to first get 99 Herblore by doing other potions and then afterwards decide you need some Ovls. I am personally taking my time getting 99 Herblore and making extremes/Ovls as I need them.
  3. I agree with Platinum. I wouldn't waste the darts on the Kiln as the final boss is rather easy, and if it's Jad you struggle with 4 darts will only get you half way there. A method that you can use if you're struggling to kill the Jad's is flinching. I personally didn't use it, but a friend used it due to his inability to prayer swap. I can explain more if you like, or search through Smokey's guides as if I recall correctly he has a guide to Kiln flinching.
  4. Why construction over a more expensive and more useful skill like Prayer or Herblore? I personally went with Slayer > Summoning > Agility.
  5. Dagannoth Sentinels in the Dominion tower are the highest pure defence experience per hour, another good option are the Vyrewatch after completing Branches of Darkmeyer. Are you interested in training related skills at the same time, or just defence? If you ever plan on maxing your account (Slayer + Summoning), or being competitive in PvM situations (Summoning) I would suggest different places.
  6. Only if you count making money in the equation (Which ends up saving ~2 hours per 1 hour of bonus experience training). But even then it is still unbalanced towards Summoning as it is a money sink too (All the buyable skills, including Summoning, are 5-10 gp/xp). So yes, by doing a buyable you save more time than doing non-buyables, but Summoning still saves an additional order of magnitude more time than any other skill, which is why it is unbalanced.
  7. If you aren't willing to listen to other legitimate advice. Then I'll repeat:
  8. While you can do whatever you like, their point was that it is extremely inefficient to go out of your way to collect green charms instead of crimson. If you pick up green charms then by all means use them, but it is extremely inefficient to hunt for them. On topic, metal dragons are the best.
  9. The point is that although by training Summoning it only effectively doubles the experience rate, it effectively gives you more time under bonus experience since the bonus weekend is time, rather than experience, limited. By Summoning during the bonus experience weekend you effectively get 25 hours worth of bonus experience for 1 hour of your bonus weekend time. Any other skill you only get 1 hour worth of bonus experience. This, along with having players in different time-zones, is why having an experience-limited item is much better than a bonus experience weekend.
  10. It means that those who have charms stock-piled save those "30 hours" for only a few hours work on the actual weekend. Whereas with any other skill you have to work 30 hours to save 30 hours. Which in my opinion seems unbalanced.
  11. That doesn't disagree with what I said in the slightest. And this isn't relevant to anything I have said. I clearly stated that's how I believe "people with no to little experience" perceive the game. Yes, I skipped over the middle group who have played the game and quit, for what ever reason. The thread is about why Runescape is looked down upon compared to other games, and I gave my thoughts as to why it is this way. I never said they were wrong, hell you're probably right. But don't kid yourself into thinking that your time spent playing other games is less wasted than my time spent on Runescape. Which is what the original post was trying to get across.
  12. There's really too many variables to factor in to give you the answer you want. Do you want it to be a "useful" 99? If so what kind of activities do you plan on doing in the future? Do you want it to be a fun 99? If so what skills do you enjoy? Do you want it to be a prestigious 99? How much money are you willing to spend? How fast do you class as fast? Achievable in a month? Do you want it to be a "buyable"? I'm sorry if I sound rude, but you really didn't give any information apart from "fast and cheap", which I will take as a cheap buyable: in which case I would say cooking.
  13. You took a comment that was a clear generalization and not directed at your situation and replied with a sarcastic comment relating to your own circumstances. In my mind, that is making it personal. I'll admit that I hadn't read over your previous posts and extrapolated your position. But given that the thread as about how Runescape is more of a time waste that other videogames, I don't think it was completely unjust. I assumed (incorrectly) that you were taking the position of saying Runescape IS more of a waste of time than other videogames, and applied my thoughts on the matter directly to you and I apologise. Of course your welcome to your own opinions, and I don't completely disagree with you. Runescape is a grind-fest. The point I'm making (and not directed at you, but in general) is that because a person spends their time playing one game, it doesn't make this time any more wasted than playing a different game. Again, not directed at you, but a persons personal opinion on a hobby doesn't give someone the right to berate another person taking part in that hobby. I'm sorry for replying as though you had attacked me personally.
  14. I still think the best solution would be something like the Mad-May Necklace which offers the same double experience, but the timing is at your leisure. They could even make the bonus experience scale with time like they do with the current bxwe's except it wouldn't encourage no-lifing over the weekend, and be fair to those that are unable to partake in the event.
  15. Oh, yes, of course.... the reason I'm so critical of RuneScape couldn't possibly be an informed opinion... it's because I have no experience of playing the game! I have enough experience of it and I still think it's a poor game which relies far, far, far too much on grind-festing. I'm sorry, the quoted statement doesn't stand as an argument in itself. That's your opinion and you're welcome to it. No need to be sarcastic at a comment which clearly wasn't directed at those with an informed opinion. Next time I make a comment should I completely cater to every possible position of opinion? You judge Runescape because you had experience with it, and no longer find it enjoyable, which is fine. But does that mean you have the right to look down upon those that still play the game and still find it enjoyable? No. The entire premise of the original post is that Runescape is looked down upon as a waste of time, compared to other videogames, when they both provide the same thing: entertainment. The point I was trying to make, along with some others, and maybe I didn't portray it clearly enough, is that those without knowledge of the game judge it as a waste of time because it appears to be an outdated, skill-less, grind-fest. Which can't nearly be as fun as shooting at someone? Right? Wrong. Fun is a personal opinion. You don't find the grind of Runescape fun or relaxing, well I do. Does that give you the right to judge the game as more of a waste of time that what ever game you are playing at the same time I am playing Runescape? Hell no.
  16. I'm not saying I agree. I think Runescape is amazing for a web-based game. However, as you said the graphics are limited, and extremely outdated compared to what is possible (not compared to other web-based MMO's but other MMO's in general). Being web-based is a double-edged sword for Runescape, it allows pretty much anyone and everyone with an internet connection to create an account and play the game, but it also limits (not saying it's the fault of Jagex, but it is limited) what is possible. Everything I wrote in my post above isn't my thoughts, it's how I believe Runescape is percieved. Actual players of Runescape either know these things aren't true, don't care about them, or find them entertaining, whereas people with no to little experience with the game will judge it completely by how it outwardly appears: which is an outdated, skill-less, grind-fest.
  17. I share similar sentiments to you. The reasons I believe Runescape is judged negatively is as follows: Firstly, and before I get into why it is worse than other games; As viewed by the general non-videogame playing population, playing videogames in general are seen to be a waste of time. Shamelessly stealing the top answer from a recent Reddit thread; Videogames are seen as more of a time-waste than other entertainment activities as they don't have any physical, or educational (They have some; time-management, typing, efficiency, team-work, etc but it is minimal compared to time input) benefits and then further still they are seen as worse than activities such as watching television because videogames, rather than as a purely non-input form of entertainment, require mental skill, effort, energy and concentration. Hence, non-gamers will see these inputs, and figure that they could be put to better use doing something more productive. I don't agree with this, I game for the exact reason I watch tv, for fun, to pass time and to relax, but to non-gamers since I am actually putting in effort, instead of a non-input form of entertainment, I could be doing something more productive. Secondly; the next tier is that MMORPG's are judged more by the average gaming population. While they are extremely popular, to the average and casual gamer they are looked down upon. I believe this is because of three reasons; 1) They don't have an end. You can't finish an MMO. Hence whether or not it is true, people believe those that play MMORPG's spend more time playing than a casual gamer. 2) They don't provide instant gratification. Unlike most games to be successful at an MMORPG it requires a large time input and extensive amounts of 'grind'. Hence, what I would call, the time to fun pay-off (amount of time invested vs fun) is much lower than a game such as COD where after a few hours playing you are able to compete with everybody and be successful. 3) I think that a lot of gamers see MMORPG's as about gaining recognition and praise for your efforts. While most people view an FPS as mindless fun, what's the point in putting in so much time for relatively little reward unless you want recognition for your achievements. Hence, MMORPG players are seen as attention seekers by other gamers. Also to be successful at an MMO merely requires time, and little skill. Lastly; Runescape is looked down upon by other MMORPG players. The reason for this I would guess is due to the seemingly: out-dated graphics, unskilled and poor PvE and PvP, extreme levelling times, pointless and boring skills (last two points = larger 'grind' that other MMO's), and the low average age of its players and immature community. Most of this is due to how long it has been around, and the opinions that were generated without modern knowledge of the game. I just want to say that I don't agree with most of the points I made above, but I'm guessing this is how it appears from the outside.
  18. I mainly said juju's because they greatly increases your herb farming profit.
  19. Sorry to hijack, but: What is the most beneficial skill to use lamps on (assuming starting from a mid-level account)? I realise that Slayer and Summoning are the two slowest skills in the game (in pure xp/hr), but training them the regular way has other benefits such as while training Slayer you level Melees, Ranged and Summoning and if collecting charms via Glacors you level Magic and make money. What about after maxing both Slayer and Summoning (as they are generally some of the first skills maxed)?
  20. Just to add to gago above: - Unlock Turmoil and Overloads before slaying/bossing/dungeoneering. - Unlock juju farming potions and start herb runs asap along with daily tree runs.
  21. The point I was trying to make was that there is no way to preserve how Runescape was at a particular point in time, nor any way to recreate it and that nostalgia of when you have your fondest memories of the game doesn't make that point in time the "glory" days. In fact, I would argue that updates (minus microtransactions) are the BEST way to preserve the spirit of the game. The game today, in my opinion, is much more comparable to how the game was in 06-08 than how the game would have been had no updates been performed. Yes, we have different equipment, and yes combat levels are a lot less varied, and yes the top bosses and rare drops are different. However, I would argue that the proportions of people with the top-tier gear to lower-tier gear is very similar, and I would argue that instead of straight up combat being all important other skills are used to differentiate combat-prowess, and I would argue that the top bosses are a comparable difficulty and worth a comparable income. I guess what I'm trying to say is that although the actual equipment, stats, bosses, areas, quests etc are different the proportions of people at each comparable milestone are the same. The milestones are just a higher tier than they were. And updating the game is the best way to prevent it from changing. For example instead of having Torva, you had Dragon, instead of having Piety, you have Turmoil, instead of having maxed melee, you have 138 + Turmoil + Overloads, instead of doing GWD and Kalphite Queen you have Nex and QBD, etc. Maybe this is just me.
  22. I wasn't aware that Number1 boss is already in top 15 Overall XP. Number1 boss currently needs 12286 hours and 13,875,680,348 gp to achieve 200m in all skills. You're right I apologise.
  23. I don't mean to come across as rude, but surely it wouldn't be that hard to add in every player in the top 15 regardless of whether they are going for 200m all skills or not. It would be nice to compare them all time-wise. You could even add a * next to those that are actively trying to achieve it. I understand this would be a bit more work (if you included their highscore/overall xp rank), but you could do updates less often? I don't know, the calculator is really useful and interesting and it just seems a waste to only use it on a stringently and arbitrarily selected group of players.
  24. It was because a lot of reasons I'll name a few: Items that were meant to be rare were actually rare for example D chain used to be one of the most prestigious items you could get, now its pretty common to see. There were only a few maxed players back then compared to now where you see so many people that have got atleast 1 99 back then it was a real achievement because you were one of the minority with one but now most skills are a one click system before you actually had to pay attention and work for them. Tthere was a lot less bots then there are now even though numbers have gone done lately its still not like it was and because of bots stuff that was a hassle to get is now easy to buy because bots forced them into the market which has reduced the price by so much. RS was more rewarding back then if you got a rare drop it was actually rare and the way your equipments value didn't decrease as much as stuff is now for example I got DFS for 20m and within months it was worth a fraction of that it just seems pointless to put money in equipment now because you just lose money. To put it bluntly they were the glory days end of and I would love it if they went back to the way it was in 06-09 even if I had to restart my character I would be so happy I'm not sure how many people agree but thats my opinion. I don't understand how any of those points make 06-08 RS better than nowadays nor how they would be combated? You seem blinded by nostalgia. - Over time all rare items (that are continued) will get more common. Hence better armour is added to replace it. How would you propose Jagex keep D Chains the best chest-slot item over time without it becoming extremely common. Nex armour has taken over the position D Chains once held, which is just natural progression. I don't understand how having a D Chain as a top tier item is better than having a Torva Plate as a top tier item as it is now? - This is because the game is older, and hence a higher proportion of the player-base is a higher level. How would you combat this? I also don't understand how having a higher level player-base makes the game worse? Yes it means that you have to work harder to be competitive in competitive situations. But it also leaves mid-level content (which was previously high-level) free for lower level players. - You state that the game was better because of the grind? Yet during those years many people (probably you included) were complaining that there needed to be less grind. - There was (in my opinion) a similar proportion of bots to players. - As items become more common, they lose value. Everyone knows that if you buy an expensive item soon after release you will lose money. I don't understand how this makes 08 better? The release of the DFS decreased the price of the D Sq, it's a cycle. To me it seems like the real reason you remember 06-08 so fondly is because it is when you first started playing. You were ignorant of all the problems in the game, and the items/updates/player-base you like so much are because that's when you have your fondest memories of the game. Different to how you remember is not equal to worse.
