Che Guevara was an Argentine student doctor, who after travelling across South America with a close friend, became a supporter of revolution as a remedy to the poverty of the region. He was first involved in revolution in Guatemala and then more famously as a key figure in the Cuban revolution against the corrupt dictatorship of Fugencio Batista. He was then in charge of the La Cabana prison which dealt with the trial and execution of Batista's officials. He left Cuba and later attempted to create further revolutions which eventually led him to Bolivia where he was captured and executed. ---------------------- Thats the history lesson part over, now the opinionated bit. ----------------------- I personally sympathise with Che Guevara to some extent. Latin America was in a terrible state of affairs after the Second World War, poverty, corruption and military dictatorships were rife in the area at the time. Batista's regime in Cuba was typical of this, a military dictatorship which was only in place as it was anti-communist which suited USA considering its proximity and Batista's ability to be bullied into doing what was needed by the USA. While I disagree with his tenure at La Cabana prison, where many a Batista official was killed in his 6 month tenure, I believe he did good in Cuba and attempted to replicate this positive influence further. I would also like to point out however, that the USA persistantly tried to undermine Guevara/Cuba/Castro by using propaganda among other methods. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Northwoods Moving on from that, I dislike seeing these teenagers wearing Che Guevara t-shirts if they dont know what the man stood for other than 'revolution'. It seems silly to me that he's now seen as some sort of figure for teenage rebelion. To finish, while I dont think communism and/or revolution are ideal methods of social change, I do think they were beneficial in South America at that time. Its also important to remember the saying "one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter". Its all just a matter of perspective. -------------- Further reading before anyone makes a baseless argument; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Che_Guevara http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Che_Guevar ... 2. I had the Sega Magadrive( aka Genesis ) when I was young, I loved playing it as a child. I also remember playing stuff like Mortal Kombat and Mario on Nintendo at my friends but unfortunatly I couldnt get a pic of those. I always liked the Megadrive better though, Megadrive ftw :D Streets Of Rage Streets Of Rage 2 Road Rash 2 (With the Turbo bike on the last stage  without cheating) Robocop Vs. Terminator Golden Axe
  3. You should make a call to whatever department of your local council is in charge of collecting enviromental waste. I live in a sort of buffer zone between the city and country so this happens now and then, the local council is good about picking up dead animals quickly, especially in residential areas.
  4. You can't criticise the removal of the previous regime it was corrupt, it was virtually a dictatorship. However, what is the point of removing a virtual dictatorship and then implementing a total military dictatorship instead. If the general declared his dedication to restore fair democracy as well as a timetable for national elections then I would support this revolution however, until then I have to be critical. Don't by any means take this as personal. I'm just wondering where you guys get your information, one of the first things reported about the coup was the general's intent to choose a new prime minister as soon as possible and a parlamentary election timetable, scheduled for 2007. I only caught the early reports coming out of Thailand as the situation happened on Tuesday, Ive not been in today so i do admit to being slightly out of the loop. If as you said the general has timetabled elections then I do support his position, as I alluded to in my last post. Note to self - Quickly read up on this sort of stuff prior to posting #-o

I liked 12 Angry Men. I thought it was interesting how you gradually learn more about each juror as the deliberations unfold and how their personal prejudices/beliefs effected their initial opinion of the case and how they are then convinced otherwise.
  7. Its a shame to see democracy fail like this, even if the previous government wasn't perfect it has to be better than another oppressive military junta. The UN or NATO have to take some sort of action here (I mean economically not militarily) to put pressure on the Thai military. Although realistically they wont as they're pre-occupied at the moment with Iran, Iraq & to some extent North Korea, and the fact that they are seen as lame-duck organisations. It's especially sad since Hungary could be moving towards revolution due rioting in Budapest after he admitted lying to win their last election. ------------------------------- Why do people like this bother to post in these topics? (other than to get on additional post) As you said yourself, you don't really care and your obviously lacking in maturity to discuss the issue even if you did care - "I would've loved to have been there, cause I likes tanks." Sorry if Ive been ranting like this a bit lately but Im slowly but surely getting tired of sort of rubbish that I shouldn't bother responding to.
  8. Okay where will I begin. Firstly anyone who uses 9/11 as an excuse to hate "arabs" or any other minority (there are crazy anti-semitic 9/11 theories also) is a small-minded bigot, like yourself. Secondly, Muslims just like Jews and Christians believe in the same singular holy being (Allah means God by the way) therefore your false god comment is rubbish. Lastly but by no means least, you mention 9/11 briefly in passing once in your entire post, there is already a topic about Iran that you can use, although if you want talk rubbish like you have here then please for everyones sake dont.
  9. I call fluke. Sure, lock stock was f'ing brilliant, but I'm really struggling to find another film he has made that came anywhere that. Anyone who had to sit through Revolver can tell you that Guy 'The Fake Cockney Geezer' Ritchie isnt a great director, in fact he made a real mess of that film. Sure Lock Stock was entertaining but other than that I haven't enjoyed his films personally.
  10. It really doesn't feel like 5 years ago that it happened, maybe its because everyone remembers it so vividly - like it only happened last week. I even remember every detail of me hearing of it which for me is strange as my memory isn't brilliant. I was getting a haircut after school and was listening to news on the radio but not really taking it in, I got the basics a plane had hit the WTC but I really didn't think to much about it, I just thought it was some tragic accident. I went home and like usual sat down stuck on some TV. Then I saw footage of a plane hitting a tower - it looked like a film and thats what I still thought it might have been until Trevor MacDonald from ITN news came on and announced that later a 2nd plane had hit the WTC and that it had collapsed. 9/11 was undoubtedly the most shocking thing Ive seen on TV and probably the most shocking thing I will ever see on TV. However, as shocking as the planes impact were the thing that has always stuck in my mind is seeing the people in the towers who had given up hope jumping from the towers to certain death. To me 9/11 was the defining moment of our generation. Everyone remembers where they were and what they were doing when it happened just as everyone remembers where they were when JFK was assasinated or when man first landed on the moon. ----------------------------------- On the issue over the film by Oliver Stone, I have no problem seeing a film about 9/11. Everyone feels that 5 years is too short of a grieving period and that making a film now is insensitive, but how long a time would make it okay? 10, 20 years? In my opinion, tackling world issues/events such as 9/11 in art is an important part of the grieving process itself. It serves as a reminder to those who lived through that period of history and also will help future generations to understand the feelings and perceptions of those who were effected by these events. People have to remember that world events have always been looked at in art, both World War Two and The Vietnam War were tackled in art while the were still going on.
  11. Robbie Neilson by any chance? Nope, Scott Brown.
  12. It really depends on what you look formin rap music. For example some people feel lyricism is the most important aspect of rap, others think the beat, others feel it is deleivery while others consider the subject matter or passion to be the deciding factor in whether or not a rap song or a rapper is good or not. Edit - If I had to pick my personal favourite Id go with; Ghostface Killah - All That I Got Is You
  13. If your particularly serious about playing football you should practice as much as possible and play competatively ( for school and local side ). However, you should remember that only a timy fraction of young guys with a dream like yourself make it, so get an education as well - just incase. Also if your not particularly blessed with natural footballing ability there is no point in allowing other parts of your life to suffer to chase a lost cause. That being said the brother of a friend of mine did make it, he plays for a Scottish Premier League side and even made it into the Scotland squad for the game against Lithuania earlier today (although he didnt play). So its not completely impossible - if you have the desire and ability.
  14. Theres a browser based beta version on their site.In fact Im playing now. http://www.partypoker.com/nodownload/

We should beat them if Georgia could beat them by 6-0 but as usual with us it doesnt mean we will though, its just the Scottish way - do well against the big teams and get humiliated by the minnows :D They did pull off a draw against us last time eventhough we should have beat Italy in the 2nd game. I honestly believe we can take the Faroe Islands & Georgia in both qualifying games and possibly even sneak a win against Ukraine (if Shevchenko has some sort of accident while playing for Chelsea  ). Although to be fair even then we'll still need a miracle since we got the group from hell.

Tevez & Mascherano went to West Ham? No seriously West Ham!? How they can afford even one of these guys is beyond me nevermind both of them. I seriously saw these two going to one of the big clubs of Europe but not West Ham. This has to be one of the biggest coups in a long time. They were both pretty impressive in the World Cup so its obvious to everyone how talented they are, on top of that they're both only 22 so they are bound to improve further so its going to be great for West Ham. =D>
  17. There is no way that USA is going to be able to strongarm Iran into doing excactly what they want. The way forward has to be at the negotiation table otherwise they risk alienating Iran and the wider region even further which is going to effect the West for years. The best solution would be for Iran to have a third party to inspect their nuclear facilities to ensure that they are being used to create power and not for weapons making. I say a third party as there is no way Iran would trust the US or any other western country to inspect them however, they might be more likely to trust one of the more moderate Islamic states (such as Suadi Arabia). However, I have listened to some of the Iranian Prime Minister's speaches in the last fortnight and they have been a lot more positive and promising than before. I think it was last week he claimed that "Iran has no enemies, not even Israel."

A couple of Tottenham fans who were building it buried some spurs shirts under the pitch, so that must be it ;). Couple of Leicester fans did that to the Coventry one too XD! Lol I read in a newspaper a few months ago that some Scottish builders buried Scotland flags in the foundations of the new Wembley. Lets hope that curse works :D
  19. Reminds me when my Dad got a compund fracture in his brow. (although as far as skull fractures go it wasn't very severe) About 2 years ago he was climbing into his lorry on a rainy day and the pole you use to pull you up into the lorry broke as he was climbing, that caused him to slip and fall onto the [bleep]ey steel steps which cut the front of his head open. Then he staggered back and fell on his face in shock - causing him to hit his head on the wheel nuts and cutting him on his hairline. He was cut from his right eyebrow to just above his left eyebrow, even worse it was all the way throuh to the bone which meant he had to have 18 staples across his head which made him look like Frankenstein. For the cut in his hairline he needed another 8 stiches. All of that added to the compound francture and it wasn't a great day at work for him but hey the compensation money more than made up for it :D . If you didn't understand what I meant then; I have far too much time on my hands, that two paint illustrations in one topic.

He's about to be appointed the Sunderland manager according to Sky Sports News, so it would be unlikely :P Personally Im looking forward to Chelsea vs. Barcelona 3. Although I can't see Chelsea winning either game this time to be honest as Barcelona look even better than they were last season. You could argue that Chelsea have Ballack & Shevchenko now but I think there are too many big ego's in their squad who wont be happy unless they play every game which rarely happens at Chelsea because of Mourinho's squad rotation policy.

  22. I was playing football once when I was younger. The whole game this guy had been deliberately hacking me, winding me up and generally just been obnoxious so after maybe an hour of this I decided to teach him a lesson. The guy had the ball and was dribbling, I ran behind him and jumped into the air bringing my knees up so I could then brutally snap them down on the back of his legs resulting in a rather painfull injury for him. Instead I tried to this but ended up kneeing my self and chipping my tooth. I still hert the guy though because my momentum helped me to keep flying towards him :D Ultimately it was poetic justice.
  23. I'd agree with everyone who claims that the LOTR films are over-rated and I'd add the Matrix trilogy as well because I feel they were all style and no content. LOTR I particularly dislike because all 3 films were just far too long and once you get over the special effects, (which I admit were great) you can only take so many "This is bla son of blabla from the kingdom of blablabla........." character introductions - that sort of thing had me looking for a window to jump out of :uhh: Its not hard to gather that I just dont like films that are sold solely on the fact that they have "groundbreaking special effects." As for under-rated films I'd have to say True Romance. I absolutely love this film, to me its like a 90's re-working of Bonnie & Clyde. I'd also say Mean Streets even though it's quite critically acclaimed, I'd don't know anyone in real life who has this film or even seen it.
  24. I don't mind buying things - owning something new is nice, but I absolutely detest trawling around shops aimlessely looking for stuff for hours on end like how women do. I just dont see the enjoyment in looking through every item in every store in town when most of the time they all contain the same stuff (unless your in a large city / very large town). That is just soul destroying to me infact, if Im ever interogated my captor should force me to shop until I give in.
  25. I read about that guy who was speared a few days ago. Could you imagine just sitting in your boat in peace then BAM! you've been speared by a giant fish. Its so surreal thats its laughable to think of this huge fish spearing somebody - it's as if its straight out of some crazy horror b-movie.
