Marijuana. As bad as they say it is?
Look at the end of the day regardless of your views on smoking marijuana and it's effect on you health/state of mind, the choice of whether or not to smoke is totally up to the individual. If you want to smoke it go ahead but only if you want to do it - it's your life so it's your choice. ---------------------------- With such detailed and profound posts like that one it's no wonder you've clocked up nearly 1200 post since November  . Please stop spamming.

Marijuana. As bad as they say it is?
Okay you do realise that after saying that you've completely discredited anything you go on to say afterwards, regardless of how well you make your point or how well written it is.

Spanking children, is it wrong?
I think alot of parents avoid that just because the find it awkward to remove every electrical appliance from their childs room. Especially if they're anything like my parents are/where - complete unable to cope with technology, seriously you should see my old man trying to install a TV its hillarious.

If your looking for stuff like that Id recommend anything by 2pac, Nas, A Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy, The Fugees, Talib Kweli, Common (aka Common Sense), Dilated Peoples. Also look up a track called "All That I Got Is You" by GhostFace Killah its an amazing track. Edit almost forgot Lupe Fiasco, I got his album (Food & Liquor) a week or so ago and its pretty good.

Marijuana. As bad as they say it is?
Yeah, that's sort of my point except....I attempt to explain my argument. :) That sort of blind obedience to the law/rules/orders is what leads a person into indoctrination. That sort of obedience was exploited by the many terrible regimes, in particular it was used by the Nazi's in order to pull of the Holocaust. If people always thought like that then there would be no America, no democracy etc. The ability to question and challenge the law and the given social morality set are the key factors in positive social and political change. This blind obedience to the law/government is scary, particularly considering the times we are living in at the moment.

Affirmative Action
You are the one making the color distinction, as evident by your claim about Eminem. Eminem is white, yet he represents that same thug culture that is subscribed to mostly by African-Americans. Actually around 90% of rap records sales are made by white suburban teenagers.

why can friends be such jerks?
I can tell you from personal experience that you only ever find out who your true friends are in the hard times, when things are going badly. Its a harsh lesson in life and one that I think you're now learning too.

Bring back Capital punishment?
Bingo! Also, a large proportion of the people in prisons have mental health problems. They need to be moved to the NHS and cared for, rather than punished for something that they had little control over. This would free up lots of prison space. Its true that people with mental health problems should be given the help that they need. However, many prisoners with mental health issues also have violent tendancies and need to be sent to secure mental health units to be treated to ensure that they're no risk to the very people who are trying to help them. Unforunatly, places secure mental health units are few and far between and the system is very underfunded.

Affirmative Action
Its worrying when you look back at quite a few past Presidents and see their views regarding race. Im pretty sure it was Nixon who had some unsettling views about Jews and Black people.

Corporations!
I sympathise with you to some extent, yes corporation should seek profit - they have a responcibility towards their shareholders to do so. However, they should also hold some social responsibilty in terms of its profiteering methods, effects on the local community, working conditions/pay for its employee's as well as the safety of its produce. Corporations should seek profit in a responsible manner, government shouldn't have to legislate in order to change things (like minimum wage and safety procedures etc) but its a sad indictment on our society that they do have to.

Global Warming
Could you give a source for that statistic please? There are specials all the time about global warming on tv. Its commonly known. 5% though do you really believe that? I mean yes there are more animals than humans. However, we contribute with; transport, power staions, lighting, factories etc. which use directly/indirectly contribute to carbon emmissions 2/7. Cows fart but not 24/7 out of giant funnels into the sky. Another thing, the only reason Bush has taken so long to tackle global warming is because he didnt want to rock the boat before the last election and afterwards he didnt want to hurt his popularity rating by having Americans drive sensible sized cars.

Should AUS and NZ remove the Union Jack from their flag?
To be fair a dragon would look slightly out of place in a flag made up of several crosses. :D
-
Should AUS and NZ remove the Union Jack from their flag?
Hold your horses, I wasn't giving a personal view, I was just trying to explain how the Union Jack is perceived by some here, and trying to relate that to the issue brought up in the topic. English taxes pfft if you want to be like that, Scottish oil. Also Viktor I only refered to NI as its part of the Uk, sorry I wasnt to clear on that.

Should AUS and NZ remove the Union Jack from their flag?
Well being a Scotsman the Union Jack is a contentious issue here too. My feeling is if thats what the people want then it should be removed, the past is just that - the past. Anyway I don't think Australia removing the Union Jack is that big a thing anyway -the stupid thing is despised in most of Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland plus parts of Wales (all of those individual flags make up the Union Jack). Plus you guys are no longer under British rule so its not too big an issue. Edited out mistakes

How can we rid the world of terrorism?
Is it just me or did I think this thread was about terrorism, and not a religious discussion? Seriously get back on topic because these pointless (and at some points, mindless) arguments regarding religion are becoming quite repetative and annoying. You're never going to prove to somebody that there is/isn't a god in post so just give it up, peoples views on these matters are deeply entrenched. If you want a religious debate feel free to make a new topic about it.

How can we rid the world of terrorism?
I found that quite surprising, I always presumed that political repression (or atleast the perception of it) would be one of the big factors that led to somebody 'becoming' a terrorist.

Whats your favorite sports highlights?
Lol forgot that one. Gerrard and Dudek were brilliant in that game.

Whats your favorite sports highlights?
Diego Maradona & the greatest world cup goal ever! Ronaldinho against Chelsea a few seasons back Grosso scoring against Italy, due to the drama involved & for putting Argentina out (it cost me money)

China!?
Karl Marx was a German actually and does not have a sibling called Groucho :D .

China!?
Up untill the Tianemman Square Massacre China was a strictly Communist nation. Since Tianemman Square, China has relaxed its economic restrictions and now allows trade although some restrictions are still in place. Im not completely aware of the details of it to be honest, Im sure somebody else can explain it better than me, either that or they'll paste it all from Wikipedia :D .

How can we rid the world of terrorism?
To put it simply, you cant rid the world of terrorism. Every policy decision that any country makes (particularly in foreign policy) causes disagreement of some sort, the more important the plan then usually there will be more disagreement which can then be the catalyst for war and/or terrorist activity. Also the term 'terrorism' is such a subjective term, its just like the saying 'one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter.' For example when America was fighting Britain for Independance Im sure politicains in Britain considered the Americans terrorist rebels however, that doesnt nesseccarily make it so - it all depends on what side you are on and what the media is saying.

"I have a dream..."
Thats strange I was reading that speech on Wikipedia no more that 10 minutes before finding this thread. Anyway King, Gandhi & Mandela should stand as inspirations to us all, showing that it is possible to overcome oppression against the odds.
