  1. Why do you exactly need to have it all at once? You buy ores for 1k superheats -> finish -> sell. Repeat. Doing mithril I think the losses are so small, you could keep repeating this process as many times as you ever wish... And smithing isn't ridiculous. Only a bit maybe. And this is coming from person who has smelted over 200k gold bars. 14,3m smithing exp. And some skills in this game just are expensive. 500k prayer xp already is like 10m gp. Even more if you're f2per. About same for herblore etc.
  2. Ok, so here are some thoughts from a player who has been with this game and its community ever since its very beginning (or atleast extremely close to it) - which is me. First of all - about the bots - there has always been bots and will always be. In a game like this, that requires crazy amount of grinding for highest levels, there are always people who want the easy way out. I'm not sure when there has been most bots (probably rsc, because it was so easy to bot back then), but it's hard to say if the amount is growing or not. I, however, don't really care about bots that much. They exist - some poor people even make their living with them - not really mattering to me. Saying that free trade will bring all the bots back and make prices go down... Well, at some raw materials, true I suppose. However, skilling hasn't been profitable in ages anymore. So saying that would make skilling not profitable... - it never was. A bit sad - true - but not exactly changing much. The price manipulation (especially on expensive items) however drives the prices go extremely nuts. And alot of items (that are being used as junk) have very wrong price tags on them. This, in my opinion, doesn't serve anyones interests, and is hurting the economy alot more than raw materials going down a bit more. Grand Exchange - being the greatest update this game has ever seen - won't be affected much at all by the free trade update. People will still keep using it, because it's faster and alot more enjoyable way to trade items. Free trade will more of have effect on trades between friends, or when trading expensive items. Those are the areas where GE is not functioning well enough. All in all, only thing that concerns me, is how the "singleplaying" content (like quests and treasure trails) are going to exist in the Wilderness with the pkers. I can't imagine how annoying it would be doing some quest in wilderness while someone is trying to pk you down. Well, not like I actually did quests or treasure trails much. That being said, I voted yes. Old wilderness and free trade will bring so much more good content into the game, than it will take out. :shades: PS: I'm still going to get back on doing pixel signatures if free trade actually happens. So if epic pixel signature is something you've always wanted, and are willing to pay - well to say atleast a fair price - for one, send me a private message. Don't start sending messages before the update is actually true though. :D
  3. Free trade.. first thoughts: scammers, botters, lurers, real world trading all that jazz. On the other hand, if you just stay careful you won't fall into those. Old wilderness.. Might be fun. Most likely I would just end up dying all the time losing quite a bit of money. Oh well, I remember old wildy being alot of fun. So big thumbs up. However what this really gets me into thinking. PIXEL SIGNATURES. This could finally motivate me to start seriously doing more pixels (I pretty much stopped ever since trade got limited) signatures for people (in exhange of rs money /h pay). So if this really happens. Give me a call if you're up for those oldschool pixel signatures that used to be awesome back in the days. I'm not cheap though.
  4. @ tripsis: Yeah I know exactly what you mean with the motivation part - but just be careful, it might just struck you one day and you're there to hunt more 99's all day long. :P I know it happened to me too. It took me 8 to 9 years to get my first skills to 90. Then suddenly in 3 months time I got my first two 99s and still going strong. I know it's not all about high levels, but you maybe get what I mean! Happy holidays to you too. And heres a picture of something unique (for me) I achieved first time during my RS career!
  5. I just week ago got scroll of cleansing, and been "playing" around with it ever since. I don't have exactly high combat levels, herblore, summoning or prayer levels to make money effectively on boss hunting (+ I got bad connection to top that), nor do I have 85 dungeoneering for frost dragons. Making unf potions is the fastest money I can make with my levels, and considering it is rather easy. Doesn't require any thinking, just need to be a bit patient. ;) I don't like merchanting, or can't do it well anyways. Here are some ratios what I have gained with the scroll of cleansing lately. So maybe it would help you (remember that scroll of cleansing also works on making unf into potions, not only herbs to unfs!). --- 13.12.2010 BOUGHT --- 10,000 Avantoes (43,500,000) 14.12.2010 SOLD - 11,249 Avantoe (unf) pot (49,500,000) (6,000,000gp profit) --- 14.12.2010 BOUGHT 5,000 Snapdragons (61,475,000) 15.12.2010 SOLD 5,605 Snapdragon (unf) pot (64,165,000) (2,690,000gp profit) --- 15.12.2010 BOUGHT 10,000 Lantadymes (68,800,000) 17.12.2010 SOLD 11238 Lantadyme (unf) pot (76,732,000) (7,930,000gp profit) --- 17.12.2010 BOUGHT 12,000 Lantadymes (82,900,000) 18.12.2010 SOLD 13,500 Lantadyme (unf) pots (95,519,000) (12,619,000gp profit) --- 18.12.2010 BOUGHT 10,000 Lantadymes (68,978,000) BTW: I also bought the herbs as grimy ones, so I got "free" XP from cleaining the herbs. Cleaning lantadymes for example is close to 100k xp/h (requires alot - and I mean ALOT - of clicking though). So I would say scroll of cleansing. :) Might not be your cup of tea, but it certainly is my pint of beer! <3: EDIT: Word to the wise. If you really want to maximise your gain, you should really sell the herbs that are either slow xp/ expensive xp/gp ratio, and use the money to buy the most suitable herbs. Especially if you're planning to get as cheap as possible, prayer potions would be way to go. If you want speed, you better choose other alternative. If you just turn all the herbs you got from MTK into potions, you're bound to lose time & money doing it. :!: ^ Grimys herblore spreadsheet on Archive of Wisdom should help you out with that!
  6. I remember you too, tripsis. :) Also mostly from your digipaintings on gallery (you've certainly improved alot, I must say) but also from your blogscape thread that I used to read even years ago. I don't think I ever wrote a reply though, I'm afraid (shy as I am). I really hope you keep painting, but also playing RS. It's nice to see familiar faces still around. :) By the way, I've been working on a pixel signature (first in years) to celebrate my 99 smithing. It's RS related this time. It's gonna take me a while, but I'll certainly post it on gallery when it's finished. You might want to check it out. And it's never too late for party! \:D/
  7. I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to say. Anyways. Been gathering money lately.. Have a bit for christmas, you know? :) I don't know where to spend money, but thanks to scroll of cleansing (cleaning herbs and making unf pots is kinda hard work though) I should be able to get one milestone broke today. 100m gp! Yay! Gonna keep going, it's decent (free) herblore XP too (clearing herbs that is).
  8. I really liked the "Babys first MMORPG" -article. I've been playing RS ever since I turned 10 years old back in the 2001. I must agree the game itself is not probably having the best graphics and it's missing quite a bit of cool type of content. However, I do enjoy RS especially becouse of it's easy accessability. I don't need to download big updates, have the best computer or fastest internet. I just open my browser and play. Also, I can play whenever I feel like it and as long (or short) time as I wish. I just log in and log out. I don't need to be making plans for completing longer "raids" or "quests". Or if I have, it's very rare. I've been growing with the game, and that being said it's hard to get rid of it. I don't particularly play alot, so I'm not type of those gamers. I mostly just play old games I've played since few years back, because I just don't usually bother learning something completely new. Heroes III, RS and Elder Scrolls for the win. :shades:
  9. Haven't updated in LONG time so here we go. First of all, couple weeks ago I got 99 cooking. It was rather easy task and thereforth didn't bother much about it. I mean, it took like 2 weeks for 99, mostly watching movies and clicking occasionally. Not really hard 99. Oh well, that's one more down too. Lately I've been chopping mahoganies quite a bit, and plan on doing so for the future too. I wish to get 99 woodcutting eventually. I'm also farming (got 72 farming today, calquats yay!) and doing some occasional quests. Been trying to dungeoneer every once in a while but I really can't find much of good on the skill. Maybe because the skill just sucks when playing solo... I haven't got much of luck finding teams either. I really want the farming scroll and scroll of cleansing though. So, now I'm heading off to bed, and if you've been wondering what has happened to my blog.. Well nothing. My frontpage is still daily updating, I haven't just had time or motivation to update it more. Pictures of 99 cook are avaible if someone wishes to see.
  10. This. I did it to obtain my first rune 2 hander for price tag of 300k. Back then it felt like enormous amount of grinding (even though it took only couple days). If I had already had the mentality back then, of being able to keep doing same thing for months, I would've been swimming in cash. Still wondering how much I would have now if I had got any sense in me and realised to invest on rares and keep them. Oh well, I was like 10 years old back then. 2001-2002.. Good times. I remember first time seeing person over combat level of 100, I had to ask her if she was moderator. She wasn't. Other good memories are picking up halloween masks from the ground at halloween event (got 4) and santa hats at christmas. Getting my first bronze full was also cool. Bought it from Varrocks general store. Actually camping at the general store, waiting for something good to appear and then try to snipe it, feels so nostalgic nowadays. You could even get lucky and get a rare for few geepees! Ah well, it's the golden glasses of nostalgia. If the game looked like that and had as many flaws in the gaming as RSC used to have, I certainly wouldn't bother playing it anymore. Hard to face the facts, but the game has gotten so much better during these years. Actually speaking, I find the claims of RSC having "better community" and all that stuff very funny. RSC was full of backstabbers, scammers and botters, from what I remember. If that's the better community some of you miss.. Well.. :---)
  11. All in all, this is a very good and useful guide, however there are couple flaws in my opinion. I'm personally aiming for 99 woodcutting currently (81 only yet), but I've already had quite a bit of time to check and measure the possible options. The only real options for person seriously wanting to get 99 woodcutting are sawmill (arguably the fastest method), teaks (not so much behind, and the firemaking experience adds on) and mahogany. I wouldn't certainly do eucalyptus ever, as according to my calculations mahoganies are a tiny bit better xp in long run. I wouldn't certainly bank teaks either, it just is not worth it. Also another often used candidate - ivy - is certainly not worth it either. It doesn't match teaks or sawmill on the xp rates, and even at the afkable level it doesn't bring in even close to what mahogany does. If your goal is only to achieve 99 woodcutting, your place is sawmill. At my 81 woodcutting, I can get upto 80k xp/h with relaxed pace. According to few sources (mostly 99 woodcutters) the xp rate can go upto 105-110k xp/h at level 99 in sawmill. This is about ~ 20k more than teaks are even at the best. Not to mention that fastest ways of doing teaks (inferno adze and dropping/alching) requires quite a bit of attention. Sawmill has quite a few parts (gathering the logs and loading the belt hopper especially) where you don't need to pay much of attention. Only thing where teaks are better option than sawmill, is if you're in need of firemaking/magic xp and don't mind clicking alot more often. Also teaks have the ability to drop occasional bird nests which do add up. Downside of them both is that you don't make money from them. Nothing from sawmill and close to nothing from teaks. If you don't need money, or have high enough levels to go for the best moneymakers in the game (boss hunting/frost dragons mostly), these are the choices you have to choose from. However, not everyone of us either have alot of money, or have high enough levels for constant and fast money sources. Some of us don't even like boss hunting or endless camping against monsters. Then your choice is certainly mahoganies. I don't really know why mahoganies are so underrated. First of all, at my level (81 wc) they yield decent 50k+ xp/h. About 15-20k less than ivy and 25k less than teak. Obviously these rates are turning to unfavour mahoganies a bit more as the levels go higher. However, the fact where mahoganies clearly outlast all of the other options is it's profitability. Each mahogany log costs about 470 gp each, and they're faster to cut than either yews or eucalyptus. That being said, 99 woodcutting would already earn you nice profit of (~ 100,000x470) 47m gp's. But we don't stop at that. The fact why mahoganies are extremely profitable, is because they have 2-3% chance to give you occasional "special mahogany logs". If you have two of these logs in your inventory, you can swap full inventory of mahogany logs into mahogany planks for no fee. Let's consider person would need to cut 100k mahogany logs for 99 woodcutting. For those 100k logs he could get from about 2,5k upto 3,5k special logs. One special log holds a potential value of 13x1500 (13 mahogany logs transferred into 13 mahogany planks). This would mean you could swap from 32k upto 45k mahogany logs into planks for free. With base value of 2k per plank, these planks would already be worth from 64,000,000 gp up to 90,000,000 gp. You would still have like 60k logs to top that. So the profit you could expect from chopping mahoganies is atleast (32k x 2k + 68k x 0,5k) ~ 98,000,000 gp. Of course you would have to spend few million gp's to trading sticks, but we didn't even calculate the price of nests there. Nests would most likely cover the cost of trading sticks, if not even more. So profit from mahoganies is most likely to be over 100m gp. Not too bad for xp rate from 50 upto 60k xp/h. Yeah, there is one con on the calculation I gave you. It didn't measure the fact that you still have to spend fair bit of time when using your special logs to get your free change of logs to planks. However, with the Enlightened Journey balloon travel from castle wars to sawmill (and then teleporting back to castle wars with ring of dueling) you can do swap upto 1500 plank in hour. That already is over 3m gp/h. If you had a pack yak you could double that almost to 6m gp/h. I don't think there is faster way of making money in this game? ;) If you're profit oriented person, and want to make a tiny buck even from, in it's afkability, quite easy skill like woodcutting, you certainly shouldn't forget about mahoganies. Remember, there is even chance that a new bonus xp weekend happens to show up when you have 100m worth of mahogany logs and planks in your bank. You could either get crazy amounts of construction xp or sell them all for like 40% price raise. EDIT: There also is a guide about plankmaking while chopping mahogany logs. Plankmaking doesn't interrupt chopping, so you can basically turn all your mahogany logs into planks simultaneously. With this you could get 90 xp for every log you cut. For 100k logs, that would mean 9m magic xp. If you're in need of some extra magic xp, this would be one way to do it while still making nice buck out of it.
  12. No, powermining iron at the dwarven mines near the resource dungeon sounds like the best option for you. It's not really much slower than granite and doesn't involve as much clicking. You also make a bit of cash with it. If you really want it fast, I'd get master penance horn (which isn't really that hard to get) from Barbarian Assault and charge it up. With it you could get double xp for mining. Add a stealing creation pickaxes to that and you can get 100k xp/h powermining iron. ;) Don't superheat iron bars for heavens sake. Only if you're powermining iron, then you could aswell superheat iron bars in the progress (as it doesn't slow you down at all). I recommend goldsmithing with gold gauntlets. It's rather easy and afkable. Maybe if you want to speed it up you could superheat the gold ores simultaneously. I did that for 99 smithing and 90+ magic. Wasn't that bad!
  13. After getting 99 cooking couple weeks ago, I have to say cooking. 300k xp/h, no cost (might even profit) and easily afkable. You also meet alot of other people while cooking (rogues den for example) and usually have always someone to chat. If the money wasn't big of a problem (meaning you can do "the most" efficient grinding on levels - reasonable of course) prayer would be easiest. Considering there are quite a bit of people who even got rich "by a chance". For example: You started playing long time ago and happened to gather quite a few rares when they were easy to obtain and then quited. Now coming back to play and have easily 1b bank. I know that virtually happened to me to some extent. On the other hand, I find it quite weird that people are actually suggesting skills like fishing or woodcutting for easiest skill to level up. Even though those skills are fairly afkable, they're also atleast three times slower than cooking for example. Even with the fastest possible methods. Easily more. Been recently leveling woodcutting with mahogany. It yields an average of 55k xp/h, and it really feels slow after fast paced cooking. I would never say woodcutting is easier.. Not even with ivy or teaks. I tried those too. However, for everything mentioned above and the easy accessability of it - I have to say cooking.
  14. Yeah, well the examples I gave were really half thought, and as I said - examples. It was just way to show how many different possibilities there are. Yes, some have already items for them, but there certainly are thousand things that don't have (which could have that is). But what you saying about "paying for knowledge", I think it's rather fair after certain amount of experience, to be able to "pay" for (example) master of Mining to get scrolls to improve your abilities. I personally haven't played dungeoneering much or know the back story of it. My point was just to take this content of the game forward, when it obviously holds great potential. Certainly it can be discussed and figured more what these scrolls would give and how much would it take to obtain one. But that's just adjustment. It doesn't change the basic idea of getting more scrolls into the game.
  15. Yeah that's what I meant, there are so many different ways to add them. And they don't certainly need to be overpowered. What I could think now for example... Scroll that gives you a slightly better chance to get gems when mining? Maybe a scroll to give you slight chance to get random higher level ore from mining? Maybe scroll to give you chance to save a plank when constructing? Scroll to give you better rate when cutting willows for example? Possibilities are endless!
  16. Introduction Hey all, With the dungeoneering skill, there came new type of rewards to the game: scrolls. These scrolls require one time to use them, and you will gain a permanent effect on your account. These kind of boosting effects are not a new thing in RuneScape, but previously they have all been adjusted inside items. You have to wear something to get some sort of bonus on whatever you're doing. There are achievement diaries, quests and minigames to unlock them. For players who are seriously interested in training some skill (or why not more of them), the items that give you any sort of bonuses are very familiar. Why wouldn't you use items that boost your skills or give you chance to occasional bonus rewards? Here are examples of what kind of scrolls there already are in the game: First the skilling related scrolls, that give you some sort of bonuses in noncombat skills. As you can see, they do have fairly nice bonuses for players who are interested in these skills. Some of them might not seem as extremely useful, but in right conditions and proper using they certainly are. They are not extremely overpowered either, which is also important. Just a way to gain more out of skills! Then there are the scrolls that unlock you abilities, in this case prayers: Again, not too overpowered but I can say they can be pretty useful for some people. As you can see, there are only three skill related scrolls, and three prayer scrolls. Why aren't there more? There sure is thousand different ways to improve this aspect of the game to also meet the interest of people who aren't either too interested in combat, herblore, farming or smithing. What about all the other skills? (credits for wonderful pictures and explanations go to Jagex and Tip.it dungeoneering guide!) The Idea The idea is to give players ability to get more different kind of scrolls. Scrolls that are obtainable for either at certain level, for certain amount of experience or why not certain amount of tokens. Of course this feature could be implemented thinking dungeoneering, and just simply adding more dungeoneering scroll rewards. However, I'd rather see it better option to have the token feature added to other skills than dungeoneering aswell. It could work in the same precept as it is with dungeoneering. For certain amount of experience you gain certain amount of tokens. All we need is add some sort of reward NPC for other skills too (the skill master maybe?), where you could exhange these tokens for scrolls that give some sort of bonuses to these skills. Why aren't the skillboosting items enough? Obviously, the skillboosting items are great. On the other hand, they are not exactly too well balanced between all skills. Some skills have fairly better coverage of skillboosting items and some of them are fairly good. However, they are all gear related. I'm sure there are other people like me too, who are interested in developing the account more than what it looks like outside or what kind of gear it has. And not to mention you can't always be wearing skillboosting gears. Minigames like Stealing Creation or even Dungeoneering itself. Why can't for example "master miner" or "master smith" have some sort of basic bonuses even on low level content that everyone else couldn't? Or why would it even need to be master of skill? At certain point you could have some sort of bonus that does make difference for your level, but maybe not that much in the long run? These scrolls don't certainly need to have any dramatic sort of gamechanging effects, but rather small bonuses that people dedicated on skills could have. How about getting occasional chance of catching 2 fishes? Maybe gain a little bonus xp for all the fishes you catch? Maybe have even slower chance of getting caught when pickpocketing? What about being able to consume a bit less prayer? Something small but still important to have you something to work towards on. Something to give you more interested to train these skills. More content for us everyone. Don't you ever feel like some skills could have so much more on them, sidepaths and different kind of achievements? We are all playing RPG, and the salt of roleplaying games is developing your charecther (+ obviously having all the fun in the process). Seriously speaking there is endless amount of ideas and ways to add different kind of scrolls to the game. Just name it! There already even are so many players who have achieved everything possible in a skill or even more of them. Some of us (like me for example) like certain skills alot more over others, and feel kind of empty when everything is reached. Some extra content wouldn't really hurt to keep us going! Of course, some people would find the joy of maximising effort by having all the possible skillgear, work your way towards getting possible scrolls and seriously mastering a skill. What do you think? I shall list ideas, that I or you guys get, for possible scrolls that could be implemented for the game. Discuss! :)
  17. I'm not even barely the oldest ones but here goes. My name is Sydan, I'm 18 years old and I play RuneScape. :) To be honest, one of the other games I've played for few years is Travian, which also gets called "the kids game" alot. However at the alliance discussion boards/skype etc I hardly ever reckon seeing anyone younger than eighteen. Majority of the players is atleast 25-30. Boys, girls, men, women, grandpas and grannies altogether. I've bet I've got half a dozen friends there who are two or even three times my age. And we get along just well. Actually speaking, in pretty much every game that I play, I end up meeting (and making friends with) alot of older people than me. And like I said, we get along just fine. Kids are kids and I know what it's like. Back in the 2001 when I started (9 years old!!) I could've sweared that no one older than 13 is playing this game. How wrong I was.
  18. So close! That's the most epic 99 to get for first, and the pile of nats is amazing too! Stealing Creation party? That would be so awesomest. :shades:
  19. Otherwise very decent guide but it misses one important piece of data when cutting mahoganies; the special mahogany logs. When cutting mahogany, you have about 2-3% chance to get special mahogany log. Two of these logs allow you to exhange full inventory of teak/mahogany logs into planks without no cost at sawmill. So let's say from every 100 mahogany you cut, about 26 you can change into planks for free. This makes huge impact in terms of how profitable it is. Mahogany planks are 2k each, while logs are under 500 gp. Surely worth mentioning I guess? :P Actually special logs make the most part of the money when cutting mahoganies.
  20. Been sick lately (AGAIN), so haven't had much of anything else to do than play... Quite nice amount of experience made though. Been leveling magic and cooking lately, also did some mining (first time in ages) today. Going to get 80 mining with mining iron ores -> superheating them into bars and banking. Maybe make some iron knives if I feel like it eventually... Too lazy to post pictures now, sorry. Keep you updated. :---)
  21. Ooh I checked it out. Seems like the stunning xp stacks even with melee helm, so it's all fine. Shame that the alchemy XP won't double too. :( Would be great XP. However, it seems like the time it takes to get those helmets is bigger than the adventage it gives, so I might leave it to that. Unless I feel like playing SC of course. Now I'm mining iron and superheating. Good ole superheat got me already like 9 levels, so why not let it get few more.
  22. Yeah, I've been doing some stun+alch mage training, and I just got to play few rounds of SC. Now my problem is, is there any way to get my magic attack bonus below -60 with SC magic hat on? Any advice is welcome. Currently I have platebody, platelegs, kiteshield, dragon boots, SC magic hat and mud staff. I would prefer not to remove mud staff, to cover the cost of runes. Thank you. :-) If it's not possible then no problem.
  23. Thanks for the nice replies, you are all far too kind! :-) 99 Magic eh? Well I'm sort of slowly working on it. Magic tends to have it's use pretty much on everything, so the experience is slowly (but surely) stacking up. Now I'm doing a mix up of pretty much everything. Slaying, barrows, doing some cooking and all that stuff. A bit like whatever I feel like. You can check my blog in blogscape if you're more interested. ;-)
