  1. Am I missing something? Why did they even need to restrain him? A) As far as I can tell, he's not broken a law. B) His back's broken - he's not going anywhere fast.
  2. I remember being genuinely scared when you first run away from that thing. It loses its effect throughout the game, but it's still epic. [hide=]Facing Yggdrasill for the first time in Tales of Symphonia was daunting. I only realised you were supposed to die after panicking and using up all my supplies. We'd actually reduced his health quite a bit too. #-o[/hide] Also, taking on the Owl's Nest in Advance Wars: Dual Strike. Unbelievably hard.
  3. Work ethics are dead? You are talking about the same kids who grow up, go to university and attend non-mandatory lectures aren't you? Just checking. There's far too much pressure on children to perform well in school these days, and not enough emphasis on letting them just be kids and explore the world for themselves. They receive test after test after test, with homework on top of the revision. We don't let young kids go out of 100 yards from our front doors because the media's scared us into thinking there's some pervert waiting for them. We force them through this academic factory, and then get surprised after they get out because they've no idea how to deal with the world around them (basic tasks like cooking, socialising, cleaning, looking after health). What's wrong with making them work harder at school, and when they get home, just letting them play out, watch TV or whatever?
  4. Ah, but Ginger - apart from Runescape [discussion of which is banned here], Religion and Politics are the only things worth talking about. It's not so much that that's annoying me. It's the mass, sweeping, senseless generalisations that get flung about in such debates. Comments like "Sell the TV and get off your [wagon] and go outside", or "If poor people aren't earning enough, they should work harder". I just find it incredibly distasteful and disrespectful to talk about individual human beings like that, especially in times where poor people are really struggling because of the current crisis.
  5. Is there a thread on OT which doesn't turn into some petty "religion/conservatism/capitalism vs atheism/liberatarianism/socialism" farce? Even I'm getting bored of them.
  6. That's totally irrelevant. If you copy someone else's original work, it doesn't matter whether it's a speech, artwork, or music. You have to give royalties and credit. Then, I hate most of Coldplay's works anyway. Most unoriginal band ever.
  7. I looked at your username and realised where that silly comparison came from. Weird. I live in the UK, in an area with inner-city gangs and I've never even so much as been shouted at, let alone been the victim of a mass killing. I'm beginning to wonder whether you have a clue about 'inner-city' life.
  8. Je parle en français parce que j'étudié pour cinq années à l'école, mais je ne parle pas français très bien parce que je n'ai pas fait les études après l'école à la college*. Oh God, it's been three years since I last used French! I don't even think that's right. To think I got an A at GCSE level too. [hide=*]It's meant to read: I speak French because I studied for five years at school, but I do not speak French well because I did not study at college after school.[/hide]
  9. Well, if you want to, it's worth exploring. Just don't put your all into it, and don't expect everything to come out of it, until you're sure what you feel for her is altruistic. Take babysteps, and see how you feel. It's all about slowly gaining experience at first. Nope. No girl is worth giving up your free time over, unless it's quality time spent together. Yeeaahhh... but "girfriend" sounds much more masculine. ;)
  10. The Church constantly gets involved with politics, even if they don't have any official seat of power inside a legislature. They take their power to the ballot box instead (re: Mormon support for Prop 8.). How many times do you hear about religion not liking the way evolution is taught in schools? If they were truly separate, they'd just but out. Hell, only today we had several prominent figures in the Anglican church speak out against Mugabe. If that's not getting involved in politics, I really don't know what is.
  11. That is a very snobbish way of looking at things. It has little to do with "working hard" and receiving "college education". Ever heard of Richard Branson or Duncan Bannatyne? Neither left school with any qualifications, yet both are hugely successful entrepreneurs. If everyone who received a high education, and worked hard got into a higher job, who'd work for them? Capitalism only exists because there is a large pool of people at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder who do not become anything higher than a worker - the very people you seem to look down on for not working hard enough. Your perceived system is economically illiterate. Also, your rose-tinted view is founded on the principle that all are equal. That's completely rubbish to anyone with sense. I was born into a poor family, received basic state primary education, went to a basic state-run comprehensive, went to a state-funded FE college. Thankfully, I had intelligent parents who went to university and bought books while they were there, so I left with decent grades. However, are you seriously suggesting I've received the same standard of education as someone who's had Mummy and Daddy spend thousands a year on private tuition in Kensington? The poor get poorer because as the rich get richer, more would-be opportunities are denied to them. And I've news for you. The gap between rich and poor, in the UK at least, is getting wider[1]. Do you blame this merely on people not working hard enough, or do you blame it on capitalism, or alternative, do you blame the rich not being taxed enough to prop up those at the wealthy bottom? That is why capitalism is a system based on exploitation. How did they not? The New Deal got the economy into a state where it could actually fight a war in Asia and Europe.
  12. Historical precedent is a bad basis to make an argument. Why? Two reasons. Firstly, because in WWII, everything was nationalised in Britain and the Allies won. Indeed, some might say the only reason Britain pulled through 6 years of war was due to nationalisation. Also, Renault is an example of a successful nationalisation in industry. Northern Rock was nationalised, and is now stable. Much as there are examples of nationalisation failing, there are examples of nationalisation being a success. Secondly, History is not necessarily the pursuit of the truth of what happened - it's an interpretation. You said War Communism only benefited the rich. That's not fact, it's an opinion. I could argue the opposite, because it certainly didn't benefit the rich who opposed the Bolsheviks. There's also something to be said about the workers' conditions under Bolshevik control, compared to their conditions under Tsardom. Analysing history is all good, and there are many lessons to be learned, but basing a whole argument on historical precedent is bad.
  13. RuneScape, but the most I've played on a console was Tales of Symphonia at 200 hours.
  14. You can have arrythmic structures of music, but 99.9999999% of popular music is rhythmical, even if it lacks a drum beat.
  15. And? It isn't a plebiscite. You vote representatives who make decisions on your behalf, otherwise, the whole concept of democracy would be a bureaucratic mess. If the majority of MPs decide a coalition is in the nation's best interests, that's how the Westminster system works. As far as I'm seeing, from a non-Canadian point of view, the Conservatives are doing nothing in the nation's best interests. From a minority government before the election, they returned with another minority government in which the majority voted against them. They're quite clearly not winning anyone over, and the only reason they're in power, as someone else has pointed out, is because the Left in Canada is split three ways while the Right is united under one party.
  16. People n here no my stance on capitalism well enough. What annoys me at the moment are the managers of the Big 3 in America. Why should the US Fed bail them out? Those guys have earned millions in their lives through bad financial management. I dare someone to try and argue either of those three have deserved the amount they've got when they've been so negligent to the state of their business and the future state of the economy. There is no crisis of capitalism here. This is capitalism. The weakest companies die, and with them, hundreds of workers get laid off. That's why the money should be invested into public work schemes, to keep the builders in a job, to keep primary industries running, to provide jobs in the public sector to those who will lose them over the next year, to put money in their pockets, to keep the tills rolling on High Street. I don't see why millions of tax payers money should go to three managers who have proved their incompetence already. So they can go make the same [bleep] up again?
  17. [*:1x2jwkyd]Remove the de facto inclusion of religion in the UK legislature by abolishing the spiritual lords. [*:1x2jwkyd]Provide a choice for 14 year olds to leave school and enter some sort of apprenticeship. [*:1x2jwkyd]Introduce an enforced two months of manual labour for 14 year olds upwards, this being linked in with the national curriculum and aimed at instilling a solid work ethic in the child, while providing experience of employment. [*:1x2jwkyd]Raise taxes on the rich and super-rich to reverse the trend of privatisation in the NHS. [*:1x2jwkyd]Gradually withdraw all forces from Iraq, with immediate effect. We have no business there, and our troops would be better placed deposing Mugabe. [*:1x2jwkyd]Fix the Barnett Formula, to an equation a little less helpful for the SNP to work with. ;) [*:1x2jwkyd]Get rid of draws in football, and just make them play until a goal's scored after 90 mins. Watching Man Utd vs Sunderland last night was the most painful torture I have ever experienced in my life!

Cheers Alex. Now get playing some Brawls with each other and get the league started. ;)
  19. Why do I get the feeling the Myers-Briggs test was designed by a self-confessed INFP for us other INFPs to read and understand? Hardly surprising when these are the adjectives used to describe us in such tests:
  20. Go on, I dare you, try and argue Communism and Fascism are the same. Take the bait - I'm waiting! What exactly was Thatcherism, if not the political suppression of the workers via removing the miners' right to strike by using the police to smash any picket line going? What exactly was segregation in America, if not the political and economic suppression of black people? What exactly was homophobia in the moderate Western world, if not the political suppression of homosexuals? What exactly was sexism, if not the polit... Do you get the picture yet? No economic or political system is perfect. If you think democratic capitalism is the perfect model, then I've no business even arguing with you. You've already lost through ignorance. The only thing you can say is it's the least worst model.
  21. There are 7100 stations in the US that the switch doesn't apply to compared to 1800 that it does. If you want to stay analog, you can still pick up 80% of the stations after the switch. Clearly the proposal is different in the US than here then. Over here, the analogue signal will be turned off. Completely. End of. If you don't have digital by the turnover, you're screwed.
  22. Are you including the mods' cleaning up time? Don't be a fool. It is when the digital broadcast goes down for whatever reason and there's no alternative. That said, there's no reason to justify analogue anymore when near everyone has some form of digital coverage.
  23. The National Health Service Committing mass genocide since 1948

Just another reason TL deserves God tier. :P ZL469I4WnQY
  25. Did this a while ago. Thought about making a group but then realised no one would use it. :?
