  1. *yawn* More 'PC' stories blown out of proportion? It gets dull... -.-
  2. An RPG where the aim is to create rather than destroy for massive wealth. I'd still be playing RS if you could offer your services as a builder and make and sell houses for other people using the Construction skill. I just get a much bigger buzz from recreation than violence. I realise I'm in a minority there though. Also, a game where no method is more or less productive than the other. Then you don't get millions of people doing the same thing without any chance of variation, and shouting at you if you do something even slightly obtuse.
  3. Exactly. This punishment is so ridiculously large, it's gonna punish those around him and they didn't have anything to do with the crime. Explain to me how that's fair? The message could've been put across without this.
  4. I didn't like iPods either... until I got Christmas money last year and thought, "I need an MP3 Player - I'll give it a shot". I've not looked back since. The thing is about the crappy £20 MP3s is they break within a few months of buying them, then you have to a buy new one and copy all the music again - it's a total farce. My iPod's lasted me pretty much a whole year now. It crashes a few times but you reset it in 6 seconds and it's fine after that. Plus the sound quality's amazing. If you want my advice, get one. Just a 4GB Shuffle or Nano. Might be still able to get a second generation (2G) Nano from eBay for cheap, now 4G's out.
  5. I think there's a difference between having violence in the game, and actually showing that violence. If you look at other art forms, like films, some of the best movies don't necessarily show the blood and gore but you can still appreciate the scene without all that detail. In fact, the fact you haven't seen it I think adds something more to the wonder. As far as some games are concerned, I can't understand why there's so much blood and gore. I've seen some games, and the blood sometimes pours onto the 'camera', and I'm just sat there thinking "Was there any need for that? I can see the guy was killed brutally without it". Also, wrestling games. Nowadays, it seems to be a race to see who can make the bones in the face crack as realistically as possible. I don't think there's anything wrong in exploring that necessarily, but I think for kids who like that kinda stuff and get kicks when their friend's face gets rearranged, it's just appealing to something a little... wrong in the child, that they like that sort of stuff. Violence isn't necessarily wrong in a game. It's just the level of detail some games put in to show it doesn't show much creativity and doesn't leave much to the imagination. It's excessive and spoils the game. In SSBB, I'm fine with just seeing my opponent get hit by a sword and being knocked back, rather than seeing blood flying from his face all over the stage (well... MK would need a face first...). As far as ratings are concerned, I think Halo should be M. It's clearly not aimed for lower teens. Likewise, there's plenty of movies out there with fine philosophical points that some teens would do well to learn, but they're rated 18 for a reason.
  6. Good luck with that one Don't be a [bleep] because people like to help others. I can for one of the first times say that I honestly agree with you there. Indeed. The people caring for someone contemplating suicide also have to be looked after. It can be incredibly tiring and traumatic for the people involved. If this dude finds some strength by getting advice from here or using it as a place to talk about it with someone, good. If he finds strength from religion to help him deal with this, good.
  7. For some reason, I felt more emotionally stunned by this terrorist attack than all the others. Not because Britons were involved. Human life is human life, British or otherwise. I think it might be the way they were targeted, and the precision with which this attack was executed. I think there are four areas the terrorists attacked in coordination. I guess it disturbs me how people how can hate so much they're willing to carry out attacks on a specific nation's people, even if they had nothing to do with the situation in the Middle East, and put that much planning into it. Course, we don't know it's al-Qaeda. It could be Hindu militants as well. But it is symptomatic of Islamism.
  8. Same here with alcohol. It's not that I don't mind buying 17 year olds alcohol, it's just if I got caught, kiss good-bye to any jobs in the public sector. Most shops accept their college ID too, and you can get them at 16.
  9. the moderators didn't think he was serious. he said he was gonna commit suicide quite often from what i read on the threads. one person said he did it seemingly once a month. so it was a boy who cried wolf kind of thing. moderators were contacted, they blew it off cause of the boy who cried wolf. the watchers on the webcam didn't think he was gonna do it, or die from it, so they didn't call police till it was too late. there are plenty of valid reasons for it, but plenty of reasons saying it never should have happened. depends how you look at it. Then surely the solution is this: ban that sort of content from the site. Don't give me some crap about how that's too authoritarian. I don't know any organisation that would honestly want its territory used to advertise a suicide, joking or otherwise. It really doesn't matter what way you look at this. Somebody committed suicide, advertised he was going to do so, and did not receive the help he needed. The whole "boy who cried wolf" thing is total ignorance towards the whole issue of suicide. It is not uncommon for people only considering suicide to send out those kind of flares. There is quite clearly a systemic failure on the part of that website to protect its users, as well as a lack of general knowledge on mental health in the public. As far as the mods are concerned, if that's the quality of their personal judgement, they should be shown the door. How is that relevant at all? So if someone only pretends to commit suicide, every cries out "Do it for teh lulz!"? Surely the common sense thing to do is check and if it turns out to be a hoax, roast the guy later for being such a [bleep]. For the matter, despite using the Internet daily for the best part of five years, I've never come across someone who acts a suicide for e-reputation. Jesus, if someone did that in the real world, they'd be outcasted from normal society so fast they wouldn't have time to spell "suicide" in their head. If you have no knowledge of mental health, don't post. That's all I'm saying there. What should they do? Gag him while they go out to work? I can't believe so many people here try to make excuses over why this boy didn't get help. It boils down to very basic human compassion, that was thrown out the window because people wanted to see a freak show to while away their evening. It's appalling.
  10. Well done? I like the way you make it sound like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. :? I've lived my whole life around Muslims. Can't say any more than two of them ever stated that they "hate" Christians or Christianity, and they were both general idiots anyway without the religious side. I imagine they only "hated" Christians to fit in with their adolescent hard image (they acted like right gangsta wannabes). God is ultimately the same entity as Allah, it doesn't make sense to rubbish all Christian beliefs when the fundamentals are basically the same. Incidently, I've not heard of anything in Sharia Law which states all Muslims must hate Christianity. This 'lack of respect' for each other seems to be a myth perpetuated by the extremists in both religions. Hell, even the Pope accepts Allah and God are the same entity, and Muslims and Christians should work to repair the wounds in relations between the two religions made over the last few years thanks to the 9/11 attacks and the occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq.
  11. That's, like, 27p a litre if my maths is right at current exchange rates. For context, the average price in the UK right now for a litre of unleaded is 92.3p. The motorists here would happily take your price.
  12. As far as the whole police thing is concerned, fair enough, although mumm_ra's told us they could have phoned the police with details, let's presume there were none. Why didn't this site have moderators who could be alerted to trace his IP address? I know they can be masked but I highly doubt someone on the verge of suicide making a final appeal for help would seriously worry about being traced. If there were moderators capable of actually doing their job on this site, making sure people are safe and responsible on the Internet, the police could have been given enough information to find this person and this thread might not even be here. The site can't shrug this off. It's plainly irresponsible that someone is allowed to film themselves committing suicide and there's nothing anyone watching can do about it to alert the authorities. It's like when YouTube complain about the lack of control over content on their website whenever some mass murderer posts a video before shooting 15 people dead in a school somewhere. If there were specially trained people on the Internet with the necessary powers, these things wouldn't happen as much.
  13. If suicide is a concern, the general advice is to tell an adult you trust in confidence. This does not necessarily mean the parent(s), but could include a teacher, a school counsellor/nurse, the subject's GP, a youth leader, a magistrate, etc..
  14. exactly. reduce taxes for people who use cars as transportation, dont start charging extra for people who use cars as there fun and enjoyment after school/work. if they start charging extra for big vehicles, why dont they charge extra for people who play golf? maybe put in some taxes to bring the price of golf balls/clubs up so all the people who play golf for fun have to pay more like all the people who tinker with cars for fun. My support for tax relief for those who use eco-friendly cars isn't due to any sympathy with drivers about how much they "have" to pay for public roads. It's because we need to clean up our act with fossil fuels and a significant amount of pollution comes from cars. We also need to find a way to pay for an extension to our public transport. As far as I'm concerned, especially since I live in a country only 500 miles long where it takes only two and a half hours by train to reach the capital, most car users don't need cars to function. When they talk about how the government increases taxes for things they have to use, it annoys me. Cars are a luxury item, and should be taxed as such. But this is digressing from the point of this thread...
  15. People should be encouraged to use eco-friendly cars through tax incentives, rather than punished for driving gas guzzlers in hindsight.
  16. There are many ways of building self-esteem. One obvious one is social interaction. Keep in touch with your friends away from this girl, but don't go OTT or become clingy to them. Healthy social interaction allows us to feel "in-touch" with the world, which improves our outlook on ourselves and life. Another way to is to expand on the things which we enjoy. If you play football for a team (I'm guessing you mean American?), keep at it. The feeling of being part of a team also helps with self-esteem because it creates the impression of being belonged, and that you have a purpose - basically, you have something to offer to everyone. Also, careers tie in with this. A good way to improve self-esteem is to work hard in your job and improve your reputation or earn a promotion / more hours / pay rise. Finally, if seeing this guy is so damaging to your self-esteem, consider leaving the group altogether. It's not cowardice, it's looking after #1. Remember that relationships are not a fight, and her decision to see him while going out with you is not reflective on your personality at all. Just follow that advice, regain that confidence, and you'll up and running again soon. In fact, now you've hit this hurdle, you'll be better prepared for disappointment later on in life through experience. Hurt makes us stronger in the long run.
  17. I realise this is far too late as advice, but this isn't something friends alone can deal with, although you should make every effort to stop her doing any harm to herself. She's clearly traumatised in response to her mother's death only a few days ago and is having trouble coping. At the very least, she needs to see a counsellor/GP or quite possibly a psychologist if the incident has triggered something deeper mentally. Calm her down, tell her you're there for her, and convince her that talking to trained people will help her cope with what's happened.
  18. I think your skin's too dark to suit the deep blue eyes naturally. In my honest opinion, I think the brown looks better. I wouldn't get coloured contacts. I have standard contact lenses but they cost a fortune without the fancy stuff, let alone with them. :?
  19. 1 Canadian dollar = 0.813339 U.S. dollars so every dollar i spend i lose twenty cents on compared to when the dollar was even. its better than it was the last time i checked. i thought it was worse. All currencies I've heard of are making a small comeback against the USD, but yeah, most took a severe beating this last year. The pound is still 25% down from its peak at around $2:£1. Last year, you had people flying over to New York to cash in on Black Friday. People are keeping their money at home these days.
  20. Why? It would have just alerted people outside... Hardly any incidents of robbery involving a gun end with someone being shot. If you shot someone dead, you're just asking for a higher sentence, quite possibly life. The money's not worth it.
  21. I'd have to agree. Certainly from my experience working on the Bestiary as a Crewbie one of the things I found immensely troublesome was having to work through three or four separate topics, many of which were filled with spam or opinions on the update. If all the information had been put into one place, where the conversation is focused not open, it would have been easier. I'll let the current Crewbies speak their own mind though. They might prefer the current Bestiary board in Website U&C. I am in no way representative of them or their opinions. Secondly, I just think it would be easier for those Tip.Iters who don't have an active presence on the forum but still read the boards nonetheless. I think if there was a set place where they could look for the drop logs of new monsters within hours of them being released, gathered and researched by forum users, it would help them, instead of having to wait days (if not, weeks) for monster profiles to update with no way of receiving an alert when it is updated (unlike the forum where you can subscribe to a topic). Thirdly, it would encourage users to actually collect the data in the first place. Forum reputation and all that. This might hasten the process for the Crew, and in the meantime, provide a point for forum users to take a quick look at. Again, this is just my personal opinion though. Don't treat me as a former staff member or quote me as such.
  22. Strangely enough, it's not a dilemma I've ever found myself in. I don't have a gun either, but there's plenty of people around my area who do. I'm like a sitting duck really... but nope, nothing. Not even a shot window. I'm so unpopular sometimes I cry. :(

Fix'd Sorry, I really can't help being a Nazi with that one. : I disapprove of those images. There's no way TL gets pwnt that bad when he's got Zair. :anxious:
  24. ...Let's have a party? :anxious:
  25. Sex should be between two people that trust one another and respect each others' wishes, not just two people getting horny with each other. While young teenagers tend to delude themselves into thinking they meet those prerequisites, it is perfectly possible for two 16/17 year olds to have sex with it actually meaning something. The only way you'll ever know if sex means something to you is if you experience it for yourself, and it makes sense to do that with someone special before putting yourself into all sorts of legal and emotional bonds. Marriage certainly is not a prerequisite for sex. Indeed, sex helps to psychologically build relationships if done responsibly, not destroy them.
