Update Aquarium – Player-Owned House Update
ixfd64 replied to Howlin0001's topic in General Discussion
I wonder what kind of effect the fletching update will have on the economy. Will it cause arrow shafts to crash? Will regular logs crash as well? Or will the "junk" logs go up in price? Personally, I think all three will happen to some degree. -
It's really convenient for making urns. I don't know of any other place in F2P where pottery wheels and ovens are that close to a bank.

I bought four off the GE at the wrong time, but I guess I shouldn't complain about a 1.1m profit. :-) Anyone else make an earning off the rising real-world price of bonds?
-
I use the crafting guild regularly.

I buy the following items to resell on the Grand Exchange: Fire and body runesFeathersLimpwurt rootThe daily profit is around 70k to 80k in F2P, and even higher in members. It's not the best money maker by any means, but it consumes very little time.

Back when they existed, the security questions were pretty useful in dealing with in-progress hijackings: answering the questions would immediately cause the account in question to log out. However, the security questions have been removed. So I'm wondering: if your account is being hacked, is there any way to boot off the hijacker nowadays?

My patient is running out. I want to get 3rd age armor.

If you think that's bad, I've never gotten a dragon equipment drop before. :P -
Thanks for the replies; I didn't expect this to get such positive reception. :-) In the meantime, I just added one for the Evil Chicken: http://runescapefanfiction.wikia.com/wiki/SCP_Foundation/SCPs/SCP-RS-092

Update [16-2-15] Ninja Update – Return of the Wildywyrm
ixfd64 replied to Leik's topic in General Discussion
I wonder if this will cause abyssal whips to go back up in price. -
I'll start with some background: the SCP Foundation is a fictional quasi-governmental organization that works to analyze and contain supernatural items, entities and locations via scientific means. I got bored and decided to make a RuneScape version of the SCP Foundation: http://runescapefanfiction.wikia.com/wiki/SCP_Foundation Current SCP objects include: Lava eel: http://runescapefanfiction.wikia.com/wiki/SCP_Foundation/SCPs/SCP-RS-044Wishing well bush: http://runescapefanfiction.wikia.com/wiki/SCP_Foundation/SCPs/SCP-RS-067Creepy doll: http://runescapefanfiction.wikia.com/wiki/SCP_Foundation/SCPs/SCP-RS-136 (resemblance to SCP-136 is purely coincidental)Various bugs and teasers: http://runescapefanfiction.wikia.com/wiki/SCP_Foundation/SCPs/Log_of_anomalous_eventsPlease let me know what you think. If you know of any RuneScape artifacts or characters that would make good SCP objects, feel free to share!

I have mixed feelings on this. On one hand, this new system would be useful for players who lose items due to circumstances outside their control. One good example would be disconnecting in the middle of a boss fight due to a power outage. But on the other hand, retrieving dropped items has always been pretty easy for many players. I sure as hell don't want to pay for that extra protection when I can already easily find my way back to my gravestone, especially if it's very close to a teleport destination! Also, this system would be detrimental to players who have just blown their entire bank on an expensive item. Case in point, if a player liquidates their inventory to buy a third-age druidic set, and they lose the staff and wreath, they may not be able to make the required 60 million GP (10% of the combined GE cost of the druidic staff and wreath) in three days. Therefore, I think a mix of the two systems would be best. Players would be able to opt-in to the new system, in which case the items would only go to Death's office after the gravestone expires.

Because the game engine uses signed integers, stackable items are limited to 2.1 billion units each. While this does not affect most players, it can prove to be an inconvenience to players who do very large trades. Of course, the fundamentally simplest solution is to switch to the long data type, or better yet, arbitrary-precision arithmetic. But if that isn't technically feasible, then I have an idea that can allow players to store and trade large amounts of wealth without resorting to high-liquidity items: coin denominations and bills. Basically, there would be six types of coins with different values: Blue coin - 5 GP Green coin - 10 GP Red coin - 25 GP White coin - 50 GP Purple coin - 100 GP Black coin - 500 GP There would also be bills for larger denominations: Blue bill - 1,000 GP Green bill - 5,000 GP Red bill - 10,000 GP White bill - 25,000 GP Purple bill - 50,000 GP Black bill - 100,000 GP Silver bill - 500,000 GP Golden bill - 1 million GP Players would be able to convert between regular GP and coins or bills at banks. The coins and bills would not be transferable on the Grand Exchange, and their face values would be used to calculate the values of trades.

One major grievance regarding the bonus XP weekend is that many players don't have a lot of time for RuneScape due to being busy in real life. This is especially true for people who have to work on weekends. This got me thinking: it might be cool if Jagex rewarded some sort of bonus to people who have to "waste XP" due to real life jobs, etc. Other games like Angry Birds Epic and World of Warcraft have similar features, so it may not be a bad idea to implement it in RuneScape as well. This would have two advantages: 1) it compensates for the lack of time to train skills and 2) promotes game-life balance by encouraging people to not spend too much time on the game. The way it would work is that the player would get a "rested bonus" token for every day (two during bonus XP weekends) on which he or she does not play for more than an hour, up to a maximum of 10 tokens. When activated, the player would gain bonus XP for the next 45 minutes, as follows: First 15 minutes (for members): 2x multiplier Second 15 minutes (for members): 1.5x multiplier Third 15 minutes (for members): 1.2x multiplier Free players: constant 1.2x multiplier The tokens would be unusable during the bonus XP weekends. I know some purists aren't going to like this idea because players would be able to be rewarded for literally doing nothing, but I guess we can't please everyone. :P

Yeah, that's what's happening for me. The strange thing is that the increased XP is actually coming from the bonus XP pool. For example, I'm getting 275 (125 regular + 150 bonus) mining XP per rune ore!
-
Anyone else notice that the stored bonus XP is usable by free players too? :)

Character Name Change - All Batches are done!
ixfd64 replied to Miss Lioness's topic in General Discussion
True, but if a friend of "Bob" were to create a new account, they might still try to add their original name and not realize the change. Oh yeah, and it seems the original display names of Andrew Gower ("Andrew") and Paul Gower ("Paul") have also been usurped. This seems like a bad idea to me as it could allow someone to impersonate Jagex staff. -
Character Name Change - All Batches are done!
ixfd64 replied to Miss Lioness's topic in General Discussion
One of the issues associated with usurping display names is that it could create confusion for their previous owners. For example, if Jagex releases the username "Bob" and someone claims it, the new holder of the display name might be mistaken for the original "Bob" by the latter's friends who think he has returned to the game. I'm kind of curious: has anything like this ever happened to anyone who has claimed an inactive display name? -
I see, but thanks for the information!

I've been thinking for a while about joining a clan. I've always considered Tip.It my home RuneScape forum, so I was wondering if there was an official clan geared towards Tip.It members. Anyone know if one exists? I do know several of the original Tip.It founders were part of the Wanderers, but I'm not sure that clan is around anymore.

Jagex refunding items | Server disruptions
ixfd64 replied to Yoko Kurama's topic in General Discussion
Still, I find it kind of odd that Jagex never mentioned anything about those attacks. It might be because the company didn't want to give those people too much attention unless things really got out of hand. But then again, DDoS attacks weren't that sophisticated back then. I think the biggest DDoS attacks that happened in 2007 were only about 40 Gbps or so, whereas today's attacks sometimes reach up to 400 Gbps. -

That's strange; I don't remember anyone talking about DDoS attacks or experiencing any disruption. It's possible that some people did try but didn't have enough firepower to affect the servers. -

To be honest, I'm surprised something like this didn't happen back when Jagex implemented a bunch of controversial anti-RWT updates several years ago. -
Jagex refunding items | Server disruptions
ixfd64 replied to Yoko Kurama's topic in General Discussion
The word on the street is that the disruptions are caused by an ongoing DDoS attack. A person or group of people calling themselves the "Lizard Squad" is claming responsibility for attacks on RuneScape and several MMORPGS. Does anyone know anything more about about this? -
I have a few ideas on how pure essence could be made more useful when crafting F2P-craftable runes: 1. An invisible +2 boost. For example, players could get 10x air runes at level 97 runecrafting instead of 99. 2. Small amounts of extra XP. 3. An increased chance to craft runes per essence. But they are probably more appropriate for the suggestions forum.
